The choice of song for this opening has a double meaning to the plot that I really like. The song has a care free, fuck all aditude to it which is how most of the characters feel at the start of the movie. The album My Generation and in turn this song is also about being lost and trying to find out what to be. I think it's not too far to say that the characters feel lost during the 3rd act of the movie and are trying to find out how to continue and who to be. It also could be a reference to this generation of teenagers since there has been a rise in the amount of teens with depression and anxiety. This is the one interpretation I am not 100% sure was the reason for this choice, but this movie does fit our current generation of teens very well either way. It's also just a good ass song so why not put it in the movie.
I DEMAND TO SEE MORE WHO SONGS IN ANIME. NOW. IN MORE KYOANI PRODUCTIONS ESPECIALLY. like when this came on I fangirled so hard tbh I love hearing classic rock and anime meld, I'm surprised they lent the rights to this to KyoAni, hopefully zeppelin will have a bit of a loosening on their song rights and allow them to be used in a few anime series as well.
Its not really a matter of they being so kind as to lend the rights as much as Studios having enough money to purchase those rights. And then for distribution in other countries the licensing company has to also pay fees.
0:40 If you watch carefully you can see Ueno look back at Ichida because she had a crush on him from a young age to present and is jealous of Nishimiya
u can also see nishimiya shouko waiting her mom cut hair in ishida house (that was the first time ishida seeing her before nishimiya entrance in the classroom)
When the Who starting playing i thought my phone was actually playing... then realised they actually used My Generation in the film.. blew my mind that they chose this song
Also I think it's hilarious how he wasn't expecting his brother-in-law to be there and just quickly closes the curtain. And his friends facial expressions make it all the more hilarious.
It's just...different, i can't really explain it but i'm quite drawn to it. I've never cared much for an anime opening but it caught my attention instantly. There is just something about this opening that stands out from the rest, it's really something ya know?
@Lex ! More specifically, it's the flag of the Traffic Boy Scouts. As the name implies, they assist with traffic-related things, road safety and whatnot. The flag can be used while grade school kids are going to and from school, it helps drivers see there's little kids around and they should drive carefully!
I was surprise to hear this three days when I watched this but then I remembered the story behind The Who My Generation. See the producer was a stutterer they did the stutterering as a joke in the song. Ironic part incoming the producer actually like it. So they kept the song that way. So it actually goes with this movie.
Speaking of The Who... The film's Japanese release date (September 17, 2016) coincidentally marked the 49th anniversary of The Who's appearance at The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, in which the band also played My Generation and ended with a literal bang. Their performance allegedly led Pete Townshend to go partially deaf.
I legitimately thought that this song was because of it being Englished dubbed but not being because of that made this OP so much fun and also surprising at the same time.

Daniel nope cause the friends didnt own up to it they let shoya take all the blame then turned their back on him instead and bullied him FOR A LONGER time then they did with shouko so it makes them not better than him and at least he tried to change they didnt his friends stayed bitches
@@MAR-sc7np movie project?? I might have forgotten something but I don’t remember there being anything about a movie project. Even if they saved him it doesn’t count that he almost lost his life to them. As shouko jumped because she felt useless and that was because of shoyo. And shoyo felt useless because he couldn’t change how she felt about herself. And that was due to shoyo’s old friends who literally bullied him all through middle school I think. And even in high school idk If they still go to his school but they gave him some serious anxiety.
