Excellent video. I just made a deal to get a Big Red in exchange for 10 snow plowing sessions. The Big Red is running fine, but has zero throttle. I really like the fact that it has both electric start, and reverse.
Good video. Shows people that sometimes you have to go back to work already done ,not because the work was done wrong but because adjustment have to be made to getting it to run right. Lot of costumers do not realize this, and it is a lot of time.
Chris Romyn Exactly, and like I said, you can't charge a customer for work done twice! I'll probably end up doing this metering rod adjustment on ever carb I do from now on! It'll save the time of tearing everything apart again!
I just picked up a 86 big red. Changes fluids ,cleaned carb, runs great. Slight back fire at high rpms when i let off. Its like a quick whitle, "yip screech". ? Other then that runs great love it so far!
Curious why a person would have to change the factory setting on the metering rod to get it to run right. Good video, I like how you clean all the parts involved, professional. Thanks.
In this instance, it solved the issue of the low end, idle-WOT bog. I'm actually dealing with the same issue on a Yamaha and moving the metering rod didn't work. So most likely will have to re-jet the carburetor!
I had a big red 250 and I rode it for about 5 years. Never changed the oil. Why? Because in those engines they are more robust and truthfully it was never dirty. Honda made a rock solid machine. I also saw that same big red recently still running with same engine and it was an 84 or 85 model so you tell me if babying a Honda is a good idea lol
Any suggestions on repairing the oil drain plug threads? I bought a helicoil kit for the original plug but the helicoil insert was to big for the plug. At $80 I did not want to screw up the hole and not have it work. I put some red loctite on the drain plug and it has been holding. Have not rode it much since doing that. Hoping when getting up to operating temp it will stay put. I plan on using my oil extractor to change oil.
Your videos are Superb! They've helped me tremendously...I have a question for ya,I have 85 250es big red it sat in my garage for 4 years without running at all. When I wanted to get it out and ride it,it would idle ok ,but would cut off when I pressed the throttle, also my exhaust header melted the plastic of my front fender and the exhaust muffler melted part of my trunk lid on the back where it says honda?? What would cause that? When I parked it 4 years ago it ran absolutely perfect..Thanks in advance for any explanation you can provide me!
Hello, I have seen your videos, but I need help, I am repairing a 1986 big red motorcycle and I need the main harness, do you think you can get it and send it to Mexico
I have a 1985 250sx honda my pilot screw was frozen and broke off level at the base of the carb. Do you or anyone have any idea on how to remove this air mixture screw.

Awesome Mechanicing and Video Production! Thanks, I feel confident to work on my machine, but don’t really want to do it..........
Haha thanks Peter! And I know, sometimes it can be a pain, but once you fix it all, you'll feel better!
Watched all 3 parts.....wish you was around here for hire
Still awesome
Just a tip, Use some Trans gel to hold the oil filter spring in the slots, the gel dissolves in oil.
Yeah Red & Tacky is what it's called here, great for holding valve keepers too! I was probably out of it at the time!

Get yourself a Pela 6000 Oil Extractor and don't worry about the drain plug?

Sounds like it's running lean (less fuel, hotter) due to clogged jetting. Probably time for a carb clean!
