Though wouldn't the "reroll a 1" mean that you'd reroll the new 1? I'd put that one up to the DM to answer, giving you either 1/20 the fumblefails or none at all.

I'd also add the expanded sub-race known as the Ghostwise Halflings.
These are a nomadic group of halflings...a bit more of a warrior family. They gain a plus 1 Wisdom and roam in clans through the wilds.
They can communicate telepathically (a skill fostered by their ancestors taking a vow of silence), and are known for riding giant owls...imagine a totally silent tribe of hostile halflings swooping down upon an unsuspecting enemy camp.
It's like Frodo meets Rambo...Frambo. Frobo? Rodo...?
...it needs some work.
I'm currently playing a halfling trickery cleric. She's an absolute delight and a menace with her spiritual weapon
Halflings are by far my most favourite race in D&D. Halfling Luck is just so good to not want to take all the time, even if they don't have Darkvision.
Halflings are continually being looked over. Right now, I'm plying a light foot halting monk. Being a drunken master as well, I maneuver around so much it's hard to get caught by in and out of combat.
I love halflings, such a fun race to play. They are great for Rogues but also make fantastic Monks as well.

Our half-orc fighter managed to succeed in grappling a cultist and ordered them to release our paladin they were going to execute. Upon their refusal to cooperate, my halfling bard (played by myself) climbed up the fighter's back, sat on his shoulders and sliced the neck of the cultist he was holding.
This is the same halfling who murdered the party's rogue after they told the halfling-hating guards where their rehabilitation shelter was that we stayed at.
Haven't played a halfling since 3.5 but have considered if for a Gunslinger (Shock! Gasp!) Hear me out:
Halfling's Lucky + Luck Feat makes you nearly immune to misfire. Because if 2 1's is unlikely, 3 may as well be impossible

Imagine being a dm and the first three of 5 boars consecutively roll a nat 1 on their first attacking roll. The first three were supposed to suprise them and the other two were supposed to be an extra suprise. Instead the first three all dashed towards the party and tripped leaving every single one of the prone in melee range 😂

Hilariously, "hobbit" was the universal term for hobbit-like folk before Tolkien. "Halfling" came later because it became iconic to Middle-Earth.

@@browncoatkevin Hobbit in this sense was invented by Tolkien (he also uses the term halfling, though). There are a handful of references for the word hobbit or close facsimiles prior to him, but only as a synonym for bogeyman or hobgoblin or similar-not as anything like a Middle Earth hobbit or D&D halfling.

D&D originally called them hobbits, but had to change it because Tolkien's estate was extremely litigious.

Apparently he planed to bring in a Halfling Monk as a backup character if Vax died (earlier) in the previous campaign. He would have been an Ashari widower sent by Keyleth's father to help her with her grief.

Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes gives some great insight into Halfling culture. Instead of conventional treasures, halflings tend to prize and collect artefacts related to great triumphs or stories. "This is the very rock Billiwick the Brave threw at the stone giant!" or "Why, this is Roswyn Ticklefoot's plate from the Great Feast of Mordeg's Demise!"
It's easy to find a mundane item related to the adventures you have, so when you learn to think like a halfling, you always get great loot!
I know the Handbook. I use it all the time... but I also enjoy these videos.

@@KL-ho2uy I like the idea of non-combat oriented characters. What class did you roll with? All of them have innate combat abilities, so it's also hard to role-play a normal dude who left their old life behind to become a stronger normal dude.

Rolling a halfling monk is the best thing you could ever play. Watch ogres get super mad as they spin around and around trying to find you only to come to a state of shock and confusion as a tiny foot kicks them square in the jaw. Please treat yourself and play a halfling. PLEASE.
I have a ghostwise halfling cobalt soul monk currently and it's a lot of fun.
One of the most underrated races in the game for sure
I honestly think their ability to reroll 1's might be the most powerful racial ability in the game. The only other things I might think come close are variant humans for the feat or half orcs for the chance to stay up in combat a little longer, but that Halfling reroll seems to save halflings from failures a lot.
@@fieldy409 rerolling ones sure is cool, but doesn’t even come Close to Elven accuracy, which halflings well, unsurprisingly, cannot pick.
In 5e there are two kinds of races - high Elves, halfelves, variant humans and everything else, inferior to them.
In 3.5 halflings were one of the main races everybody picked for certain character types (to the point of maybe being overrated... or overpowered).

Currently playing a lightfoot halfling mastermind rogue, hit level 4 and took the bountiful luck feat. Bonus action giving allies advantage on attacks rolls within 30 feet while also using my reaction to negate their 1s. Never have I seen party members so determined to keep the little luck and advantage buff-bot alive. Outside of combat they get to do all the roguey things.
Your party must call you "Rabbit Foot", what with you being their good luck charm and all.
Be a Halfling Wild Magic Sorcerer and take the Lucky, Bountiful Luck, and Second Chance feats to become almost as lucky as Charmalaine, Halfling Goddess of Luck!
(Make them your patron deity for bonus points)
if you want to make your DM scream at you because of how many times you can get to roll/reroll try halfling divination school wizard
with of course the corresponding feats if allowed
between the dice rolling and then divination spells the DM might hate you
the dex and constitution are always usefull for a wizard too!

Also Wild Magic feels more thematic and better suited to be a Luck-Bender, and Sorcerer gets proficiency in Constitution saves to better maintain concentration, and Metamagic can be applied to taste. Personally, I like Empower, Subtle, and Careful spell
Don't forget about your luck blade
And, of course, the Wand of Wonder

Halfling has been my go-to since my first DND game when I had no clue what DND was but I loved the LOTR series. Now that I’m a DM, I love to have halfling NPCs.
People seriously underestimate how much fun a Halfling can be. One of my favorite concepts is the "machine-gun" concept. Play a rogue, hide behind your resident meat-shield (fighter, barbarian, paladin...) and shoot around them with a cross-bow. And, for extra flair, make a custom hearse with handles to put your feet on so that you can look over their back! You're essentially a shoulder-mounted turret at that point.
The concept of making a halfling bard with every luck feat is just so tempting
Halflings have always been one of my favorite races and they dont get nearly enough love, a fighter halfling with a crossbow is a force to be reckoned with.

I'm currently playing a happy-go-lucky lightfoot halfling bard. It's a big change to be playing a curious, enthusiastic character, because most of the characters I write are angry and sarcastic.

I think the double ones were a reference to Liam himself. In particular the time he rolled double 1's to avoid being caught by Vex leaving Keyleth's room.
I have a halfling wizard in a game I'm in. Every time he rolls a one almost without a skipped beat he would just go "I'm a halfling" and reroll. Unless it was for the daily portent. Then the real fun begins.
Flash to Sam only use Luck racial feat to reroll his 1 to keep that dagger...
the luck trait is like having a feat at lvl 1. not to mention with xanathars luck feat as well as lucky feat, you are practically the most useful player.

If you roll a halfling wizard, you also get the Ritual Caster feat for free (because wizards). My human wizard, Level 1, thus has the equivalent of two feats, and taking Tough added onto his +3 CON modifier means he doesn't have the fewest HP in the group (guaranteed 6 per level, max of 11).

@@starcrafter13terran It not broken if you have relatively full adventuring days. Three rerolls isn't that many in the grand scheme of things if you're doing 3+ encounters per day. Sure if more than one member of the party takes it that gets a bit ridiculous, but lots of the combat feats are easily just as good.
@@agilemind6241 That's what a lot of things come down to in 5e. The concept of the adventuring day is one of the reasons making challenging combats is so hard, because that's just not the way most people run the game.

You forgot fighter! Halflings make incredible Dex based fighters, even considered making the gunslinger im playing to be halfling because of it. I didn't cause it personally though it would break the gun play a bit to much since i'm using a misfire 1 pistol so far.

Wild Magic works well for Halflings too, and they can have a similar feel with their knack for manipulating the cosmic forces of luck and chaos with Tides of Chaos, Bend Luck, and, of course, Wild Magic Surges

I think an all-Small party would be fun to run. Halflings, Gnomes, Goblins, and Kobolds. Dwarves, too, if you don't mind cheating.
Descending into tunnels too cramped for the big folk. Riding from place to place on steeds of fine, loyal Mastiffs. Doing battle with giant rats and spiders (who aren't all that big to tall folk, but more than meaty for the Small). Foiling the plots of Neogi, Duergar, or scheming Imps. Or else being royally outsized by big creatures or wicked big folk, who enjoy pushing around those smaller and weaker than them.
I'm currently playing a Stout Halfling Barbarian named Welby, thank god for that race pick. I roll more natural ones than my entire party of 5 combined, my dm hates my lucky trait haha.

Personality-wise, they fulfill pretty much your typical halfling...charming, friendly, charismatic...
And just when you guard is down...whack!...crack goes the quarterstaff.
It isn't anything personal...they're actually the most hospitable bounty hunter you'll ever meet.

There are also 3 other halfling "sub races" You have the Ghostwise, which can be found in page 110 of the sword coast adventurer's guid (they make pretty good monks if I do say so myself). Then you have the the mark of healing, and the mark of hospitality which can be found in Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron, on pages 98-100.
In the series of one-shots I'm doing, I'm playing a Stout Halfling Grave Cleric called Sabrina. She is like a female halfling version of Matthew McConaughey. Every time I act out like I'm high with a different voice in character, my group and the DM was laughing. 😂😂

Possibly my favorite character I've ever built is a halfling 'luck manipulator'.I rolled REALLY crap stats and what I decided was that despite being told I could reroll, I would take them, and use this build I'd had in mind for a good while. See below if you're interested.
Halflings naturally have some luck, but they also have a few racial feats that expand upon luck even more so. And there's the normal Lucky feat. If your scores are just bad... why not invest in not rolling bad and making others roll bad / good with these feats? Also, those advantages on fear and poison are tweaking more rolls in your favor if you're Stout. On top of that take 2 levels of Wizard to become a Diviner and know the results of two things of your choice in advance every day! You KNOW that you're going to win the arm wrestling contest and you KNOW the big bad is going to fail his save on the Druid's Polymorph. From there? Just go Bard. Bonus action to make rolls better for your friends! From there it's just a matter of picking Bard spells and 2 levels worth of Wizard spells that suit you- in my case ones that don't rely on my own numbers to be good like Magic Missile, Rope Trick, and Message. Pick up a familiar while you're at it- grant yourself dark vision despite being a halfling and have them use the help action for your allies in combat.
A very useful character even if they're not amazing in raw stats. When push comes to shove they'll win or make sure you win. You can even grab the guidance and bless spells with magical secrets, and jack of all trades and expertise are always handy even in the hands of the mediocrely statted.
Sword coast adventurers guide p110 introduces the Ghostwise Halfling with a +1 Wisdom sub race boost and the ability to speak telepathically with any creature they share at least 1 language with and are within 30 ft of... OP Halfling Monk.
Combine that with either the feature of the anthropologist background from Tomb of Annihilation or the Linguist and/or Observant feats from PH and you will have an amazing roleplaying opportunity by acting as if you are another creature’s conscious “talking to them for the first time” - being skilled in persuasion always helps!!
One day, the time will come where I will play something other than a halfling. Probably. Maybe. I just love them so much, not to mention not rolling 1s, and in the end - I'm here because of Lord of the Rings. Hobbits are, to me, the absolute core of all fantasy.
I loved playing a Halfling Monk, Way of the Dunken Master. A lot of fun to RP, plus extra movement and not provoking opportunity attacks after Flurry of Blows meant I could roll throughout the battlefield.

Was a DM for my very first DnD game lately and honestly the Lightfoot-Hafling Rogue of the group as our MVP. Character was reserved by nature but a line of natural 20's made everything they did look effortlessly easy. Even more fun when the other members of the group only rolled laughably low throughout the game!
Currently on my very first DnD Campaign, now i know the rules better i'm totally gonna make for the second one a Stout Halfling Fighter who has a sort of "duelist" air and fights with a Rapier, foes might laugh at him but let me assure you trying to parry a stab that frequently aims BELOW your belt...is not easy at all xD
I WAS thinking of playing as a Dex based Drow Paladin who prefers to throw daggers, but I just might substitute the Drow for a Lightfoot Halfling.
Among the most broken things I've ever seen was a halfling EK Fighter/Diviner Wizard with Lucky.
There are also the Ghostwise Halflings from the Swordcoast Guide, halflings so reclusive and shy of the world that they have inherent telepathy.
As for my favourite Halfling, it must be my Catalina Hilltopple, the Stout Halfling Fighter. Nothing beats a Combat Master that can get in between the legs of their enemies, and completely ignore the enemy frontline while running at the Enemy magician. Mobility and Shield Master feats are highly recommended.

Played a halfling barbarian once for a one-shot named Sean Bloodbadger. He was so freaking fun with both high Dexterity and high Strength, he dodged most of the attacks that went his way and wrecked house with his lovely battleaxe, Matilda. Landed a near killing blow to the boss. Too much fun.
Oh wow, for some reason when you first said Frightened, I heard "Pregnant"... Not sure why, if it was an accent thing or just my head space being weird, but it made e go "WTF?"
Of course is Liam that talk about halflings. He is actually Martin Freeman.
If I'd ever play a halfling I'd go against type. Maybe make them an ambitious sorcerer. That +1 charisma helps there too and dex is still handy there, and spells can compensate for the limited movement speed. And an enlarge spell whenever people make fun of his size.
I am playing a ghostwise halfling monk/rogue/warlock right now. I love playing her, especially since everyone underestimates her, and she plays that to her advantage.
First level Divine Soul Sorcerer.
Rest of the levels are Diviner Wizard.
Take Lucky as soon as it's convenient.

I'm calling it, Liam's next character is an Australian accented halfling bard that's the brother of Thaddeus Candleglow.
I adore Halflings, Such silly creatures, my current ADL character is a Halfling Wizard and damn its some silly fun.
Upon the mention of a black dragonborn spitting acid, I smiled knowing my halfling cleric rode gloriously on her celestial mastiff, before annihilating two death dogs and a knight with an acid breath weapon granted to her by a magic carapice. This was immediately after she had a spiritual experience in which her god specifically told her to "preserve life".
Also, if you have advantage on a roll and get 1 on either (or both) dice, Lucky let’s you reroll each 1 on a die once and still use the larger number from the advantage. Of course, that also applies to disadvantage rolls, so after your Lucky rerolls, you take the lowest.
So is my elven heritage kender sorcerer allowed to play in your game. Remember: what's in your pocketsz is minez.
