I remember watching your videos when I was a student being soooooo scared & now I’m almost 2 years graduated (still scared) ahahahaha but, love watching your daily vlogs 🫶
I'm sooooo proud of you!! I remember that too. Oh how time flies. It's okay to still be scared, I get scared often too.. but the confidence will build. I promise!!! Thank you for still being here and supporting.
How is it now? Is it better? I’m a student currently & im nervous about everything 😢 my professors are always saying stuff like “this will be the hardest thing u will do” “this profession takes years for you to be good at” “this is not a easy job as you might think” i get it they’re being straightforward and not trying to sugarcoat it but it just makes me more nervous.
I don’t know if you remember me 😭 but I was in your discord around 2020 to become a sonographer , I ended up going to school for respiratory therapy because it took less time and I’m not as happy as I would’ve been had I did ultrasound, now I’m back to square one and starting to get ready for the program 🙏🏾 I also didn’t think I was smart enough for ultrasound but now I have faith in myself
hi love, it's okay everyone's personal journey to sonography is different - what matters is you're doing what you believe is your calling. so glad you're getting ready for the program, you're always welcome back to the discord!!! I have faith in you!
Don't be Scared. You can do it. I remember what it was like as well but it all starts with taking the first step. But be prepared, it isn't easy; it will require a lot from you but its incredibly rewarding when you get to where you want to be. Good Luck! And of course, watch all of Geselle's videos and others who share about and are great resources for the profession.
I am really considering entering this field. I am still trying for physical therapy school this year but it'll cost me a lot just to retake classes to get my GPA up. I'm gonna try but if this doesn't happen by this year then I'm going to enter the sonography program at the hospital that I work at or a college. I'm really looking for something I would feel comfortable doing for the remainder of my life. I'm 56 years old and have been working in the ER for over 18 years. I feel burnt out and need a change. I have my BS in biology and making pocket change as a salary. I need to make better money so that I can afford to pay my loans and live comfortably.
@@Drama2Karma thank you. I've changed my mind. After a hard look at my life and where I am in my career, I decided to try to make a change. I thought about Medical Technologist because of my BS in biology but honestly, I don't know if I want to work for a hospital anymore. My hospital lab dept offers this course but only accepts one trainee per course. You'll be working with them but taking the course at the same time. I'm still thinking about it. I've been doing coding at home and enjoying it. I'm learning HTML and CSS. I think I'll be happy at that because I'm not dealing with patients at all.
This was such an amazing, amazing video!! I love watching your videos, because I am definitely interested in the field, and I didn’t know about it until I became pregnant! However, your videos definitely inspire me keep up the work!
Thank You Geselle for Sharing yet another great video. I would hate having to go get the patients myself but I do understand that thats how it often is in the hospital setting. I think it would be best to scan on portable machines with wireless probes in some cases.
thank you so much for watching.. and yes that's typically the case in the ER. Many hospitals do not have wireless probes but they do have portable machines for the inpatients.
Is this something someone in their thirties could get into? I've come to realize that the office is not for me but Im sorta scared to go into something new in my mid thirites.
yes of course!! there are people like Emily said that are in their 30s,40s,50s as students. if this is something you want to pursue, reach for the stars!
finishing high school and currently trying to find my field of choice is so scary especially when u have zero knowledge or any experience what to ever.. do u have any advice for people in my situation?
How do I make sure I find a reputable program and can ensure I find work afterwards? I did a phlebotomy program and it was a scam because I can't find any work without experience. So I would need a program with built in experience.
It's definitely hard to make sure a program is legit however CAAHEP.org is your best bet to be sure, then you need to check with their advisors how to sit for ARDMS!
Like any job there are always positives and negatives, I do have a video that has pros and cons. Most of the positives will be good job security, good pay, the ability to work anywhere, and that it is very tech dependent. A lot of the negatives will center around work related muscular skeletal injuries and getting severe burn out because of how busy it can get.
thanks for asking! in the hospital setting we don't tell them, typically it's the doctor's that give the news to the patients. we have to tell them that they have to wait for the results from the doctor.
Good question. Depending on how early you are and where the ectopic is it can be difficult. One scan might not see it but the next scan potentially can see it as it grows.
This was really informative. How long have you been doing ultrasound? I was wondering about musculoskeletal pain/problems. Have you experienced any and if so how do you deal
Thank you for watching! I’ve been doing it for 7 years now. I have had some and what I recommend is working out/ staying active, stretching, and getting massages!
Nothing worth it comes easy.. you gotta dive head first!!! Study as hard as you can, do your best, and remember that we all have to start somewhere! You looking up videos is already a head start! Good luck q
work hard, never give up, do your best, know that practice doesn't make perfection... only progress. ask questions, lean on others, and study study study! you got this!
Not in hospitals .. most hospitals are 3 12s or 4 10s. Some places have 8 hours 5 days a week, and also outpatient offices/ clinics are similar. You can work per diem which is variable and different every week.
I worked right away as a student, I got lucky to find a company that would hire me as a student. Many people start work immediately after graduation or taking their board exams.
It is thought to be a female career however there are many males in the field as well. There is not just OBGYN but also vascular, general, and cardiac sonography.

I do! definitely go into shadowing somewhere.. do your research, google jobs and careers - list pros and cons and see what interests you most!
Do you wheel your patient into your room yourself of is there an attendant or aid who helps with that?
Good question! We don't have aids and we do all of the transporting ourselves in the ER.
@@lolgeselle that sucks
so cool ♥
thank you for watching!
I want to pursue this career but do you have to do 12 hour shifts?
there are 8,10,12 hour shifts! some hospitals have 4-6 hour shifts as well. it just depends on where you work and the type of position you hold!
i love these videos!
hehe yay thank you for watching!!

How hard is your day to day compared to what schooling was like?
day to day is much easier than schooling --but it takes time to get here... years even! you will constantly be learning new things in this career.
Thank you for your video. As a Sonographer do you need to take a state license test?
thank you! not a state but you would need a license depending which country you live in... USA = ARDMS.
Can’t wait to graduate ❤
yay you're almost there!!!!

What happens if you're pregnant by chance? That would be difficult to push around the machine.
Um, the machine has wheels.. so no, it’s not. 70% of the sonographers are female. Pregnant techs do it all the time.
many Sonographers scan pregnant until their a few weeks out -- just be careful and don't work so hard ;)
Hey Giselle! What school did you go to for your program? Was it here in Las Vegas?
Also did you have any previous medical field experience/jobs?
Hi! I went to UNLV. And no I had no previous medical experience.
Question here (sorry if it’s stupid i haven’t even started college yet) if there is a miscarriage do you have to be the person to tell them ?
thanks for asking! in the hospital setting we don't tell them, typically it's the doctor's that give the news to the patients. we have to tell them that they have to wait for the results from the doctor.
How long is school for sonography? And can it vary? And nice video! Very informative 🫶🏼
it can be anywhere from 2-4+ years -- yes it varies -- and thank you so much for tuning in and watching!
Are there ultrasound tech positions/places that offer a normal like 8-4 m-f work schedule? :)
yes, many of them are doctors' offices or radiology clinics/ obgyn offices!
Hi I’m currently looking to become on ultrasound tech but I was really reaching out to see what school did you attend in Vegas for sonography?
Hello! I went to UNLV 🫶🏽
@@lolgesellewhat course is it under?
I just what to know if it is difficult to find ectopic pregnancy in ultrasound?
Good question. Depending on how early you are and where the ectopic is it can be difficult. One scan might not see it but the next scan potentially can see it as it grows.

No
no, I do not! (for general/vascular at least) echo you might.
If you do US-guided biopsies when the needles are in your vicinity so to speak.
