Honored that you chose my bike. I owe a lot of what I know about wrenching on bikes to your channel -- I was watching all of your content during COVID, and still watch a lot of it today. To answer a couple questions you had... you are right about the front wheel, it's the original STX hub. The rear wheel is a replacement with an 8 speed hub. I still have the original rear 7 speed that I might figure out how to redish and add back one day. The vbrakes are Shimano (XT I believe). Thanks for all you do!
Absolutely love Monstercross, my primary bike is Monstercross - an All-City Gorilla Monsoon. I ride it like a comfy road bike, and a rigid mtb. Bikepacking, group rides, lazy sundays and commutes. Everyone needs a Monstercross bike
My dad has one of those and it's what I think of when I think of monstercross. Sadly he doesn't use it very much so I bought him a microshift space horse flat bar. Lives it even more lol
I didn’t know that this was so popular and what it was called! But now I know what I’m currently building, giving my 97 mountain bike a second chance. Love the bikes in the video😊
Love the channel im from the uk and a long term gt fan i gave my son my old 90s extra small gt richichet put a lot of work into it just not o fan of curly bars much love keep up the good work❤
I love "Monstercross" bikes, and I am looking to find an old late 80's or early 90's mtn bike. I had originally considered doing it to my Barracuda XC URT (unified rear triangle) build that was on this segment a couple weeks ago. I decided to look for a traditional double triangle style frame to do such a build.
I have a Merida eScultura with custom built WTB 27.5 wheels and Rekon Race xc tires and a front and rear Redshift suspension setup. Its as close as could get it to monstercross style.
My first monstercross was 1992 it just felt different but right bull horns cut down by me parts from the scrap heap bits from the shop know one else had one that I'd seen it was my idea black frame tan walls
I love these bikes and builds but for those of us that ride 21"+ frames they never come out looking good with all those tall headtubes...The proportions are just wrong. Seeing as I've never found a 650b gravel bike I like I doubt I'd enjoy riding a 26" dropbar no matter how cool the build.
completely agree i’m 6ft 3 with a long back and I’ve never found a retro mtb bike of any size or brand that has comfortable geo for me. I remember trying an XXL frame and the stand over height was ridiculous and even then I still needed like an 80mm stem.
I don't mind flatbars at all they just don't work for me , and mostly personal experience ends up in personal taste so why hate a build when it fits to someone ? I had a Dawes Synthesis with 28" road wheels for years and it had a riser bar ! I don't get it that everything that is not as people expect is immediately declared scrap. Just to remind everyone those crossover bikes already existing for a long long time , just they had different names back then like the famous Randonneur from Koga Miyata what was a sturdy traveler bike made out of a race bike has existed since 1985!
Hey, it's a free country. You do whatever you like to your bikes. As far as "looking good" I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Drop bars on a trail ain't for me.

Nice! Hope one day you do a monster Tracklocross bike build with flat bars of course.

26'' wheels with drop bars have personality of monster track :D
I wanted to submit mine, I need to get some good pictures! Specialized Comp A-1 full suspension! LOL
Love me a GT All Terra Triple Triangle from back in the day. I still have my GT All Terra Backwoods
Those old GT frames look cool no matter what configuration.
I really love your channel im from the uk and a long time gt fan wa
My tourer has Shimano 105 and V-brakes (hated the cantilevers, no power). I've used the travel agent for over a decade to sort the pull ratio.
The Travel Agents work great. Super easy install.

Everyone sleeping on the brake boosters. Good video.
Absolutely love old GT mountain bikes with drop bars!

I have an old Gary Fisher that I want to do this to...
My first mtn bike was a modified Gimondi road frame. Drop bars & Specialized 2.0 knobbies,1984.
Mafac brakes, TA triple, Brooks Pro.

Try the raised drop bars by redshift. I love em.

I used to have a bike thats similar to this weeks theme and was going to upload it but no longer own it so it wont really count!!

even in small size, 26'' with drop bars feels like kids bike
I’m disappointed my Stumpjumper FSR full sus didn’t get picked. Maybe some day.

So it just looks nice but makes it no sense. This is more trouble than benefit.
