Somebody doped the coffee at a small tax preparers office in my town as revenge on the owners. He confessed really fast tho & everyone went to the hospital - no one got enough to trigger a full meth experience, thank heavens. The profit margin in meth is really high, if someone is cooking, “giving away free drugs” isn’t as unlikely, as meth at cost is apparently incredibly cheap esp if you steal the ingredients.
Don’t think a random person methed this guy from a water station. But it’s believable that if he has mental health issues and had an episode or break and totally lost it for a bit that he might jump to that conclusion when it was probably mental health piled on dehydration exhaustion heatstroke etc.
That was my feeling the whole time the story was being told. I think he probably did believe he was drugged and this belief contributed to his psychotic break.
There's one part of this video that just makes zero sense to me: A statement by the edmonton police comes out basically corroborating this guys story completely and suddenly everyone agrees the whole thing (about the drugged water) was made up? I believe this is much more likely to be a drugs use/medication-interaction/health episode case but what in the police account invalidates his version of events?
Because they were not able to corroborate anything about a "rogue/drugged water station," and it didn't happen to anybody else. I think the "I was drugged" story is just something he came up with to stay out of trouble. Don't know exactly what happened apart from that. But Occams razor suggests he is not being entirely truthful.
I would like to preface this beforehand by saying I am very stupid and I am talking out of my ass here: I feel like the "Meth Guy" was definitely not trying to be malicious going into the marathon, I don't think he would cognitively crash out assault other participants because he wanted to make a scene or write a story on Reddit... I do believe he was under the influence of some prescription drugs and maybe because of the lack of hydration or nutrients he had some sort of extreme side effects of being really aggressive. Again I'm speaking out of my ass but this whole situation has me mixed...
I'm a Redditor and I remember that thread! Thanks for doing a deep-dive into that post. I agree with you that he probably was on something before even running the race (starting the marathon late is itself a red flag; I mean, who doesn't set two alarms and barely sleep the night before a marathon *ahem*). When I was running the Atlantic City marathon this year, there was a guy on the boardwalk giving out little bottles of water, mini-bottles of coke, and tiny bottles of Patron to the runners (all sealed). I thought was a nice gesture, though I stuck to the water and Gatorade at the designated stations. What's wild to me is that at the Boston Marathon in the 80s, there were no official aid stations and runners would just accept cups of water (or other fluids) from spectators. This was even before they made fancy hand-helds.
If he was running a marathon and experiencing issues, why wouldn’t they have taken him to a hospital? Even if it wasn’t meth, heat stroke can be really serious. But also why wouldn’t OP immediately go get a drug test once regaining cognitive function? This is really odd, I think he’s making it up.
As former m3th user (13 years sober now) I agree it ain’t that. Psychosis doesn’t really happen unless you’re up for days. I bet he tried to trip while running and the combo of heat exhaustion/dehydrstion caused him to lose it
For certain cases, I like to wait a little while to see if any new information comes out. Plus, there's a good chunk of other projects I'm already working on in the first place haha.
I don't see how the police report proves anything? It could just be a a random guy standing there giving out "water" to mess with him, the police wouldn't know.

Dude could've won an Olympic gold medal if he was alive in 1904.
Or 1984…
😅
Thanks, added this nice story to the various ways I could pretend it's not my fault if I ever fail to finish a marathon. ❤
Me thinking this was going to be about an addict randomly joining and winning (the hearts of everyone) 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think that he thinks he was drugged but he was just dehydrated hungry and overheating
So why would he resist arrest after messing with other runners?

Saw the story on reddit, like an hour after the guy first posted. Only post I've ever followed to see how it developed. Shit was wild.
Right, following it -as someone from Alberta- was so bizarre. Impossible to script

The Edmonton Methathon

The new favorite PED for ultras.
You know it's a good day when this guy posts
🗣️🗣️🗣️ EDMONTON MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥🦅🦅🤯‼️‼️🔥👏😤😤 hahaha wild to see my hometown on this channel, nice surprise to see this story covered here!!
If it was actually meth he would've won the race
I remember this when it dropped on reddit! Was so sure he got drugged before the extra lore dropped
I hate hearing Reddit confessionals as even theoretically credible. Total waste of time.
Next year's marketing idea: "The Edmonton Metherthon"

The part where they say "this is the only guy from the race claiming he was drugged" is pretty indicative that this guy had his own shit going on
Because they were not able to corroborate anything about a "rogue/drugged water station," and it didn't happen to anybody else.

There's a runningcirclejerk sub? Holy shit lol
OP was dehydrated and couldn't accept the fact lmao
0:42 I’m just going to assume it’s Rob Ford until I hear otherwise…
Haha! 😂
They don't use spit hoods for foaming at the mouth. They would have taken him to a hospital. 🤔
My first thought was "why would they just drug him?" Why wouldn't scores of people claim to have taken spiked water??

These types of stories in running are my favorite type of stories to read up on and follow
saw the story on reddit when it first came out, pleasantly surprised to see a vid about it
0:18 what is this referencing showing a Running Channel presenter? Did they do something?
She cheated in multiple races if I remember correctly
Yes - look it up it's hilarious
Should make something like "story of Kelvin Kiptum". Similar to the story of kipchoge
