Shane’s dead eyed despair contrasted with Rick’s Joy was a sight to behold.

My favorite part is how Harrison Ford seems into it for the most part, like he’s doing his job, but then when Carrie Fisher starts singing, he just absolutely dies inside
I sorta feel like he took this more seriously than he did ANH and as a result is more defining for his character, like he doesn't give any delivery as uninterested as "yesss I bet you have" in the holiday special

This was likely where his dislike for Star Wars in general started. He had been trying to get Han killed off ever since Empire. He got his wish finally in The Force Awakens.

You know, Blind Wave is a really fun channel to watch because of the positivity, mostly. I enjoy the fact that they go into things with usually one person who really enjoys the show/movie they're watching (I.E. See Rick with Cowboy Bebop or Aaron/Calvin with Doctor Who) who can guide the others along. It's a nice relaxing experience, I enjoy it very much.
But I've got to be honest, seeing Eric in physical and emotional pain throughout this and seeing Shane descend into misanthropy makes me yearn for more terrible shit like this special to watch.
I don't know what you're talking about, Rick was clearly having the time of his life.

Mark Hamill had his accident on January 11, 1977, before the first movie even came out (I believe he was on his way to do some ADR for it when he crashed). So this was indeed after the accident (the special began filming about 1 year and 7 months later) and they tried to hide the scars with too much makeup.
Poor Mark. Don't worry, He'll be fine in mid or late 1977.

@@jacktaliasteinberg9681 it's about an American cult where the fbi were closing in on them and everyone drank poison and to fool the children it looked like kool aide. It was some really sickening stuff. I'm not from america, I only learnt about it in an English lesson back when I was in high school but there's images that are really eerie on the internet where the field is just literred with corpses and they look like they're just peacefully sleeping. Pretty dark but with the right shock factor, timing, delivery and wit you can make a joke out of annything

God I remember, as a kid, looking forward to this airing. Seeing the ad, double checking the TV Guide to make sure I knew exactly when to be in front of the TV when it came on. This was literally my second shot at getting to see anything Star Wars having only seen Ep IV once at the theater. Even at age 9 it was a heck of a contrast.
Even though it baffles me, I love seeing how happy this is making Rick. It's just so hilarious. Also, just watching the highlights of this Special, and as entertaining as their reactions and torture are....it is still the biggest struggle to get through this lol I actually scrubbed ahead and loudly exclaimed "oh my god, I still have 10 minutes?!?!?!"
Lucas's involvement basically boiled down to him agreeing to make a Christmas special and doing some consultation. Not to the point where he was approached about the plot or any potential characters. Any actual consultation he did was just answering minor question the people behind the special had over the phone. They kept him in the dark about a lot of it, like giving Chewie a family.

I saw this as kid as it aired. Hey, at least we got some Boba Fett in it! And I was STARVED for something Star Wars! Having to wait 3 years for a movie was agonizing! By the way, Harvey Corman was a great comedic tv actor at the time. You might recognized him in some Mel Brooks films.
