I loved this movie and how they showed how she replaces her caregiver when they get old and useless. You just need to find the future serial killers and train them up from young men to perfect vampire minion. The US version is scarier but this one is done better, so glad you liked it.
There is a second short story that takes place years later. It is in the short story collection book called "Let the Old Dreams die" Basically, it's teased that Eli does turn Oskar.
I’ll bury that reveal right here 😢😂 Yeah, she replaces her caregiver. The old man is not her dad, he was once young like Oskar when he met Eli. And fell in love with her. Just like Oskar.
I feel the ambiguity makes it so very disturbing. What will become of them? Will she turn him? Will he become her servant? Did she ever feel anything for him or has it always been about finding a replacement? The book has extra story strands that add to the horror.
I've seen this movie 4 times just for the Lacke, Jocke, Virginia arc. They do so much with so few lines and it all comes full circle in the end I just love it.
I believe that Eli's "dad" was the same as Oskar. Oskar took on his role, and I'm sure others have before them, which is kind of sad, but then the whole movie was very melancholic.
Håkan and Eli met when Håkan was an adult. Without throwing too many spoilers at internet strangers, Håkan is not a character that one should feel sympathy for.
@@hpacinstaller and he helps Eli because, uh, he has hope. Which Eli is aware of and takes advantage of to keep him by Eli's side (like when showing him affection by caressing his face to get him to kill)
This movie is SO good- sad, sweet, frightening. The darkness and desolation of their environment- when you think about the fact that in many scenes, it's just after school, but it's pitch black outside- further drives home just how lonely both Oskar and Eli are (imagine this movie taking place in the springtime, with leaves on the trees, birds chirping, and flowers blooming). Knowing that Eli's "dad" is her previous Oskar makes you wonder- did she have as much care for him as she seems to for Oskar? Is her relationship with Oskar uniquely close? Maybe Eli and her "dad" were once as close as she seems to be to Oskar, but they grew apart as he aged and the stress of what he had to do for her wore on him. Is Oskar aware of his potential fate? Does Eli truly care for her "person", or are they just a means to an end? In the book (which I highly highly recommend reading) there is a little more to Eli's story that gives context to their actions. This movie is one of my favorites because of how it engenders so many varying emotions that seem like they should be at odds with each other- it's starkly violent and gross, but sweet and heartfelt. At times it veers toward dark comedy, but it's almost shocking. I'm so glad you watched it; I definitely needed to spend an hour with you both!
Book spoiler I guess: She didn't love her "dad", he had a "crush" on her, and it's at-least heavily implied if not outright stated that she let him molest her as "payment" for him providing her blood.
Ooh please will you beautiful boys react to "Gothika"? It's was massive when it was released. Halle Berry and Penélope Cruz absolutely slay in it. You'll both love it! It kick-started the paranormal ghost/psychological thriller genre again back in the early noughties and kick-started RDJ's career again after his fall from grace. It's so bloody scary😩🥰
Eli is a transgender character. Eli is short for Elias, which is why she asks if Oskar would like her if she "wasn't a girl". You think she means vampire and she sort of does, but she actually means both.
I bought a copy of this that came with the novel it's based off. Finding this fact out and why Eli is what they are is tragic. I am glad to see this comment. I like the remake and sort of hoped that this would be noticed by others.
@@Jessidafennecfox I think the thing most important to remember is that this is a story about how these little details about gender are almost incidental. Oskar is not fully old enough to process sexual attraction and the movie is about Oskar just loving Eli, not *how* he loves her. I think it offers a very important lesson about how love should work.
Came to make this comment as well. Thank you for saying it better than I could❤Correct me if I'm wrong though, in the book, wasn't it forced castration? I can't remember.
Yep! Melting his face off meant that the police wouldn't be able to trace his identity to the apartment (which is obv rented in his name) and find Eli.
Amazing movie, amazing book as well. It’s not clear in the movie but in the book it’s revealed that when Eli says she’s not a girl she means it literally, she’s living as a girl but she was actually a castrated young boy called Elias when she was turned. Also worth noting she is 200 years old and that man wasn’t her father, he was simply the previous Oskar who grew too old to be useful.
there's a notable difference though. Her previous familiar, Håkan, really liked the fact that Eli/Elias looked like a little boy and he became her familiar when he was already an adult. Eli used Håkan's attraction to keep him loyal & do her dirty work. Oskar, on the other hand, genuinely cares for Eli and does not have... a fondness for children, shall we say. (the book holds nothing back when it comes to Håkan's... preferences) I consider there to be a subplot the entire time that Eli wants to replace her aging and troublesome familiar with a new one who doesn't want that kind of affection from her, yet is still willing to kill for her. Eli saving Oskar from the bullies sets up him 'owing' her, and he was already primed for violence when she first saw him due to the prolonged bullying. His home-life is also unstable with parents who divorced because of his dad's alcoholism, which then leads to his mom being fairly absent as she has to work hard to make ends meet as a single mother. He's the perfect candidate for a new familiar, and there is a lot of unspoken manipulation from Eli throughout. I don't blame Eli though, homie's just trying to survive and not be alone.
Woohoo! Glad you watched the "Right One" (original), not the remake. I am a big fan of Chloe Grace Moretz, but the original version is just *chef's kiss*
Awesome reaction. Another EPIC Swedish Movie is "THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO!" I promise you, it is the BEST film that will blow you away. (Be sure it's the Swedish one - not the American remake). Lisbeth Salander (the protaganist) will be your new iconic heroine. I love your channel!!!!
I always saw Eli as a bit of a groomer. She preys on lonely, vulnerable children to manipulate them into becoming her familiar and keeps them until they're of no use to her anymore. The story is framed as two innocent, damaged, lonely children but it's really not.
The perfect vampire movie, in my humble opinion 🦇 Although the ending seems cute, it is very likely that Oskar will become Eli's new caregiver/"father" and the one who will have to provide food for her because we know that history repeats itself. It's difficult to picture him having a happy life, just like the man from the beginning.
I am so happy that you liked this movie! It one of my favorite movies (and books) and the movie adaption is so well done, probably because the author John Ajvide Lindqvist was involved and wrote the manuscript. It's even filmed where he used to live. He's one of my favorite Swedish authors, and one of the few horror authors I read because he is so good at writing horror in regular society. As a Swede who grew up close to where the book takes place, and a lot of the movie is filmed, this movie is special to me. It hits different when you know all the places in the story. I haven't seen the American version (and I'd like to one day) but I think I'd be a bit biased towards the original. The queer vibes in this story has always been special to me, I wish it was shown more in the movie, but it is there. I recommend reading the book (and his other books, especially "Hanteringen av odöda" (Handling the undead) which was made into a Norwegian movie last year, tho I haven't seen it yet).
"She" actually means that if "she" was a boy, because the vampire child is in fact a HE. Eli(as) was castrated a long long time ago. They even show the scar between his legs, but you did not react to that moment.
You guys the show Was sooo good. I personally liked it more than this and the remake. Different take and sorta cure oriented. Stupid showtime canceled only 1 season but soo special!
I have both this and Let Me In on DVD! They're both awesome! They're similar, but not exactly the same. I have the novelization of this movie too, but I haven't read the whole book yet.
Have you seen the SHOWTIME series ? I lovvved it more than movies! Different sorts take on it, same name but more inspired changes shall we say. Absolutely crushed got canceled.
This movie was crazy !!! Love both u guys sooo Soo much 😊 when u get a chance can u react to a movie called..... "WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING" forget what it's on but OMFG IT WAS TRIPPY N SCARY AS HELL . I THINK YOULL LOVE IT IF U HAVENT SEEN IT ❤❤❤ CANT WAIT TO SEE WHATS NEXT

Will y’all be binging “The Penguin?” Crossing my fingers that you do-it’s a phenomenal show (with zero Batman btw) and Sofia Falcone is MOTHER!!! 😩

Who's gonna tell them that wasn't Eli's dad? I dont wanna be the one to hurt the feelings.

It’s sad when you realize Oskar will step into the same role as her “father” and most likely suffer a similar fate.

I watched this when I was younger, I think I was 9 or 10, and till this I still love Eli and Oskar!
I believe that Eli's "dad" was the same as Oskar. Oskar took on his role, and I'm sure others have before them, which is kind of sad, but then the whole movie was very melancholic.
Completely agree. I think the sweet/candy song “eat one now, save one for later” refers to this too. Oskar is being saved for later.

So if the cats who bit the vampire turned into cat vampires, would their spin-off movie be Nos-fur-atu? 😜

Maybe consider watching the Victorian Psychological Thriller, “Penny Dreadful”.
Soooo great poetic Gothic brilliance!
I thought the friend of Oskar's Dad wanted a piece of Oskar and the father was getting himself drunk enough to allow it happen.
The perfect vampire movie, in my humble opinion 🦇
