I love the Silurians, both classic and modern. It was great to see them again with a modern design.

7:20 Kudos to Karen Gillan. That scene was shot practically - no CGI

Well it was in wales, there’s just nothing to infect there besides sheep.
I love wales but having lived there there’s some truth to the exaggerations, all in good fun though.

Elliot is my favourite child character in all of Doctor Who due to excellent characterisation and a strong child actor. The whole guest cast in fact is excellent across the board. All good actors playing well drawn characters.

I had some leftover custard a few years back, and fish fingers in the freezer. So yes, of course I had to give it a try.
It was surprisingly edible. But I will admit apple pie and custard is a better combination 🙂

They know quite a bit about us when we tried peaceful negotiations the last time. This species is from the classic era with John Pertwee...and they say Doctor Who was never political before now lol

    • @georginad7394
      @georginad7394 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

Every time someone mentions the show getting political I think: 'did NO-ONE watch the Pertwee era?' I wasn't alive at the time but I've seen it. Pretty sure other Doctors have had social and political commentary as well but the Third was the most obvious.

And so, the Silurians return. They first appeared in *Doctor Who and the Silurians (1970)* when they faced off against the Third Doctor.
Also they think of humans as apes because they interacted with our ape-like ancestors.
They're very interesting creatures, because they aren't aliens. They belong on Earth as much as we do. Two dominant species, in conflict over a single world.

Okay I definitely remember only giving this episode half of my attention back when it aired. This has a different kind of flavor to it, something I can only describe as bleak. I don't know if it's the color gradient or the characters or if there was something else that had me worn out but I didn't appreciate it back then (I'm thinking this Doctor is written with a different color schematic than the previous one - perhaps every doctor is colorized differently, like a rainbow, made to distinguish each from the last - looking forward to testing this theory as I watch these further with you - yes, you got me). I LOVED watching this reaction and the plot was absolutely captivating. I have no idea what happens after this but an underground civilization is the stuff of dreams! The warrior (I'm bad with names), I swear I've seen her kind in a previous episode, maybe the end of earth episode? I'm not sure, but the species looks familiar. I can't wait to see what next week brings us.
🙏Have a blessed day and good luck with this storm. I'm expecting 9" of snow tonight, plus ice and extended power outages, so watching you was a nice distraction from the stress 💙🌹

The Silurians mainly appeared a few times in classic Who, starting in the 3rd doctor's era. This was their first appearance in new Who, and the whole plot is an homage to their first story.

Fish fingers and custard isn’t that bad… it’s sort of reminiscent of having sweet and sour pork or some other protein. Sweet and savoury is often a great mix, despite how paradoxical it seems.

The actor at the beginning, Robert Pugh, I was thinking as soon as I saw him, I know this guy. So, he was Craster on GOT, you know, the one who had all children with his daughters and gave the sons to the white walkers, and he was Tony Mack on this episode, and he was Jonah on Torchwood, the episode "Adrift". That's the one where the rift swallowed a teenager and he came back older than his mother, and quite not okay. And a slew of other roles as well.

Not a bad episode, though as a 2 parter in itself it’s still nowhere near as good as the story in which the Silurians first appeared back in 1970 (with the 3rd Doctor). This story also gave me two classic series vibes from “The Green Death” (set in a mining community in Wales) and “Inferno,” (a big drill trying to drill down through the Earth’s crust).

I very much prefer these designs. The original silurian arc was imo the worst one I've watched from the third doctor which was a lot. The other one with the master and sea devils was pretty good though, haven't watched any other classic silurian episodes except that hilariously bad one from the fifth doctor. Are there any more?

I kind of like turning the Silurian face plate into a mask - clever idea. I dislike the non-expressive monster masks used in Classic Who. I realize that it they didnt have prosthetics or the budget to do much more back then, but having an expressive alien face is a big improvement.

Fish Fingers and Custard works, it works better the crispier the fish fingers and the more like european vanilla pudding the custard is.... the American vanilla pudding is way too sweet and drowns out the fish a bit, but that is not necessarily a bad thing for some.
