In this video, I give the rundown on all you need to know about living on campus at the University of Alabama. Dorms covered: Pres 1, Pres 2, Lakeside, Riverside, Ridgecrest, Paty, John England, Tutweiler, Burke, Parham, Bryce Lawn, Highlands, Harris, and Blount. Coming into college as a freshman, I was on the hunt for all the information I could get about my college, so I hope this video can be helpful for those of you out there who are doing the same.

as a former burke west resident, burke has the best community environment on campus. don’t be scared of the community bathroom or traditional dorm stigma
agreed! living in suite styles I never knew my neighbors and while their are pros - that is definitely a huge con!
I stayed in Parham (when it was still for girls way back when), and I loved it. I stayed in the same room my entire time in school.
If you didn’t do priority housing, what are the chances of getting a suite?
Hi Anna, thank you for your video. I’m looking for a list of freshman dorms and how close they are to the main campus. It’s important that my daughter can get to class as quickly as possible. In addition, which freshman dorms have single rooms available with a private bath or semi-private bath and laundry on site. Can you please advise? My daughter missed the sign up date for a suite. Thank you
Hi! All freshman dorms are on the edges of the main campus. The time it'll take to get to class will depend on where her classes are, but location-wise there is not a huge difference between the dorms, especially since her classes will likely be in a variety of buildings. I'm not positive which dorms exactly have singles available since I never stayed in one, but to my knowledge each dorm has a couple available. Each dorm has laundry on-site which is very convenient!

Anna, how were you able to be assigned a dorm room after your freshman year? I understand after freshman year students need to move off campus.
For me, it was part of my scholarship which is why I continued on campus. When I was there, people had the option to stay on campus after freshman year, but it was a bit more competitive with applications due to limited space but also many just prefer to move off campus after accomplishing the freshman dorm experience

Do you get to pick your suitemates?
if it hasn't changed, you get to for sure pick one roommate & then you can sometimes successfully plan the other pair in the suite, but only one is guaranteed!
How long does it take for the school to get back on your admission status after application closes?
I got my admission after a month of applying for summer classes

How does room selection work at bama? I got into fall 2023 and it's one of my top choices!

honestly, it has been a second since I've done it but if memory serves me right, you get assigned a date and time that you'll be able to log in and when that time comes, you see the open rooms and are able to select yourself into one. it moves fast! I'm pretty sure they've changed how roommates work since I was there so probably look out for emails telling you how that part works. it'll be great though & if you end up going to bama, I bet you'll love it!!
for fall 2023 February 1st is when the housing portal opens and then room selection as well as MCR is available!!
I know it us hard to know for sure, but for selection, the fourth day, can you still get suites? No preference for building
when you're a freshman can you live in the sorority houses?
freshmen move in before they rush so they don't know yet which sorority they'll be in! sophomore & junior years are common ones to live in-house for most sororities though. & freshmen can change their meal plan from dining halls to the houses so they're still around a lot

Is a freshman student allowed to stay off campus?
I believe there are exceptions to living on campus as a freshman, but that would be something to reach out to the housing department about to find out more!
