    That’s a powerful line you said. “It’s not the land that does anything, it’s the people”. I think more people need to remember that. That is powerful.

      Yes, Shan! It's definitely the people. Thank you so so much!!♥️🥰

      It's not even all the people... There might only be a handfull of hateful people in an area and interactions with those individuals can taint your whole experience. With that said, complacency is compliance.

    As another black young women at UA that’s from Alabama. Going into my junior year, I’d like to say that i’ve never experienced any type of racism on campus. There is a good amount of black students on campus, I can’t remember a time walking through and not seeing a few skin folk 😂 I’ve been in a few organizations and never felt discriminated against in any way. With that being said I highly suggest using twitter/instagram and talking in group chats to meet more people. At the start of my freshman year I wasn’t the most social and towards the spring semester I started making a lot friends through knowing like three people because the black community on campus tend to intertwine.

      yess Alana! Thank you so much for your comment! I definitely agree with you 100%. I always see some people that look like us on campus. I don't want anyone thinking black people are rare at UA🤣 I also think group chats and social media are a great way to meet more people too!! Goodluck on your junior year🥰 I know you will do great!!

    I am a black male that went to The UA and I feel that most of the people there aren't racist. I didn't really have any significant issues with racism outside of micro aggressions from certain individuals. We will experience that anywhere we go. They also have a great African American Studies program. I took some of their classes as electives and was surprised to see that the classes had a considerable amount of white students. One was even from Cullman which has a really negative reputation for being racist.

    I'm taking a tour because I recently got accepted early this month, I didn't want to make the wrong decision and it be racist and having a had time there, any more advice

    • @JasmineCheyenne
      @JasmineCheyenne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      hey love!! yayyy congratulations on being accepted!! I would definitely say to take a tour of the campus probably once school starts back this January. That way you can get a good feel of campus and the vibes. I definitely hate covid is going around so it may not be as many people on campus as usual but regardless I think you will love it! My other advice would be to continue watching more youtube videos of black students at UA, continue doing research in all areas, such as fields of study you may be interested in, organization/clubs, etc. My biggest goal with this video is that I don't want any black men and women to be afraid to come to this school because it is in the south and a PWI. There are so many people on campus that look like us, you wouldn't believe it until you see it😂I hope you do decide to come here, there are amazing opportunities waiting on you!!! If you think of any more questions just let me know!!! 🥰

    As a New Yorker, My image of Alabama is negative on the race aspect but is auburn overall a safe place to travel to ?

    • @JasmineCheyenne
      @JasmineCheyenne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a lot of black people in auburn as well! I've never traveled there but I know a lot of people that have, I think it is pretty safe! Here are a few links to check out of black youtubers at auburn!
      --P.S. I can understand why your image is so negative! Being from AL, the south is really all I know so I am used to how things operate here. But I do think if you decide to give it a chance you would love it! It's not as bad as it seems and is portrayed to be. There are racist people everywhere but try not to let them dictate how you view the south and/or Alabama bc besides those type of people, I promise the south is full of amazing people and areas! Let me know if these links help you or if you have any more questions girl!! 🥰

    On the actual campus, when school is in, will you see a lot of black people or will the black race just be totally outnumbered by the white race? Also, are there more black females or males on campus?

    • @JasmineCheyenne
      @JasmineCheyenne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When school is in you'll see a lot of black people! but majority of the white race. It is a pwi so you will still predominately see the white race. I honestly think it's kind of an equal ratio of each, black male and female! It's so many black students here, you would never think it was, but there is. I was also surprised!! once I went to the first event that focused on black UA, known as "ONYX", my freshman year, i was so shocked to see how many people looked like me lol

    I'm deciding between Spelman and Alabama. Do you think Alabama would be a better experience?

    • @JasmineCheyenne
      @JasmineCheyenne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're looking for something different I definitely say come to UA! but maybe make a list of some things you're looking for and compare with what Spelman has to offer vs UA. I really think you would like it here! but weigh your options!!

  • @kayciebell8979
    @kayciebell8979 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    so you have never felt uncomfortable on campus while your time there?

    • @JasmineCheyenne
      @JasmineCheyenne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Besides the story I discussed, no ma'am. For me, being at UA was like being any where else. I just be myself and keep it pushing--knowing why I'm there and trying to enjoy myself, helped me to keep going and finish! If you decide to come here you'll do great. And I'm always here if you have any questions!
