  • Re-live SpaceX Falcon Heavy launching at night through our cameras placed at the launchpad. It's the 1 year anniversary of the STP-2 mission and it's time again for double booster landings and sonic booms ( stay tuned until 3:15 ). In this footage review video we'll discuss what it was like to document this mission on the ground, as well as see footage from our slow-motion remote cameras we position in the field approximately 18 hours ahead of liftoff.

Sorry if this is a dupe. I thought I left this comment earlier. One of the things I always appreciate about your launch videos is the care with which you treat the subject. Both in how you capture the moment and how you compose the story that we see here. I want to use the word reverence, but not in a weird way. Reverence for the opportunity to be there, to witness the spectacular elements of the experience, the ability to share the fruits of the labor of thousands of individuals and the bravery of those willing to continue to invest their lives and resources into our future in this direction.
    Great job. Thank you.

Thank you for saying that. Reverence is something that we think about a lot.. and feel when we get to be so close and document the people and machines making this all a reality. We're still working on finding the right voice I think, balancing reverence and pause with the seeming ( maybe only perceived ) pressures of the TH-cam algorithms etc. I don't think we'll ever not feel that these images and experiences are very special though.

@@CosmicPerspective Totally understand, it has to be incredibly difficult. Maybe just blend the two, the daily grind of slipping the surly bonds and semi-regular visits to the Temple of Tsiolkovsky.
The great work that Mary does down a Boca Chica demonstrates that there's interest and value in sharing the 'mundane' elements as well. One thing I've never seen, just as an example, is SpaceX putting those booties on the Merlin or watching guys fill cryo tanks from a truck. Just like the old story of the janitor talking to President Kennedy...even pushing a broom is helping us get (back) to the moon.
Anyway, just wanted to encourage you all to stick with it if this is something you want to do. The results are incredible.

Rocket Summer, indeed, and just as I imagined it as an 11yr old in 1964... thank you for giving us at home a fraction of being there and the power it takes to "slip the surly bonds of Earth".

@@CosmicPerspective I have to agree. Excellent footage, but the commentary really spoiled the surreal experience for me. One thought for compromise: consider publishing two versions next time. I'd likely appreciate the commentary after I could experience it once through without. Perhaps it's not too late for this one. :)
