i grew up with peter king in la jolla.... i haven't seen him in 35 years probably..... that was really cool to see him looking healthy and happy and hanging out with kai and beautiful Hawaii..... roy mendocino ca.
There are a million guys trying foiling where I live, and none of them look anything close to as cool as this. They look like guys rollerblading for the first time.
@@hobbyfoot110 I don't doubt it. The people that I know who do it can't stop. I often say, "it must feel better than it looks." And who cares how it looks, as long as your having fun.
The fact that you can surf from one wave immediately into the wave behind is what for me gives this so much potential. No more waiting around for a wave
So cool. Mind boggling. I have to reframe everything I thought I understood about buoyancy, going with and against gravity and going with and against currents from surfing.
The speed is absolutely insane!! What a legend I've wiped out on my foil on a wave with like 1/3 the power. It sounded like a branch snapping when my face hit the water and then my eyeballs hit the water and I saw stars and felt like I damn near knocked myself out.
nah man skis have regained popularity. I personally am a snowboarder but I still think there are way more skiers in all disciplines, including in the park. And no, this will not overtake surfing. This is so much less beginner friendly so there will always only be a small group of devoted foilers out there. I would love to try it one day though. Do I think the sport will grow significantly?yes. But do I think it will come close to the popularity of surfing? no.
@@jasperfeldschuh3644 The only reason snowboards got popular in the 90's was because it was so easy and particularly in certain snow conditions like windblown or dense. Thankfully the technology evolved in skis to make them more user friendly (like having a pair of snowboards) and better suited to all conditions. Foiling is growing fast, but not because it's more user friendly than surfing and I agree will never "take over" accept in marginal surf where it has some advantages. Kai has all the toys/tools and skills for a reason...every day counts!
@@tubethis777 I still love snowboarding in certain conditions, but independent suspension is nice for skating on the flats or sidestepping a traverse. I don't miss the long straight skis either, but I do miss the lack of crowds at resorts prior to the wave of snow surfers.
Different league when he's carving on the waves it really brings the magic that the foil can do. The pumping bit always seemed a bit ridiculous to me but I guess it's a lot faster than paddling and if you can master it like these guys it opens up new doors
always glad to see reports of fun. I am curious about the skill level required, is this something for little Johnny under the Christmas tree, or best left to the highly skilled. I see this as a young man's game, because as an old body surfer without a selection of boards for varying conditions, I must use a different approach, of modifying my behavior to better fit in with the energy of nature to achieve my goals. outside of the water, such an approach also has rewards, although it often conflicts with the demands and desires of a modern world. However, once you know enough that the ocean grants you rare friendship, such a powerful friend changes everything, and you get glimpses into what some call the supernatural, but is really just a very gratifying natural state beyond what a person can live in full time.
I know lots of people up there in age that are able to foil, if I were you I would look into wing foiling or even SUP foil, prone tends to be harder to learn due to the pop up phase.
Browne got 1st - hard to beat in this event. Kai had 2nd but got caught up in foam after deciding to do a big rotation. Maybe shouldn'ta done it - but that was his decision.
One of the most interesting surf sessions I've ever watched.
Kai has the best attitude in the world, and he puts effort into everything he does, and skill!
100%
This is amazing. I'm still getting my head around the fact this is possible now

I love how you and the foil turn mediocre waves into ramps - bring it on!
Wow Kai you are truly raising the bar! I’m excited to witness the future!

But it’s fun nonetheless- you should try it too

"PSYK"...Thanks For Being So Dynamic And A True Inspiration 🤙🏽
So cool. Mind boggling.

Just my opinion, but i think Kai is one of the best surfers in the world! Also, one of the greatest athletes around!

increíble Kai!, es un placer ver cada video nuevo que subis se nota que no hay miedo siempre empujando un poco mas!.
saludos
Dude is so zen in the water style for days he can make hydrofoil look cool no easy task 😆
The amount of talent this takes is absolutely nutty!
Kai had to be the best foil guy in the world
Love to see you on som LARGE waves!!!! This will eventually overtake surfing, just like boards did to ski's in the 90's.

mmmm not quite, can't replace the connection of chilling on a board and enjoying the surrounding nature.

@@johnmartinsen963 the pendulum has swung back. No kids want to look like their jerry dads slide slipping down the hill on their snowboards
Thanks for sharing Kai! So cool..
Always innovating. Pushing the limits
Airs and flips on a foil 🤩 unreal! ⭐️
I love what you do!
Clearly the best waterman today
Totally amazing!!!
Dude that backflip was mental
Kais got crazy skills.
Wacky, in a good way!
I need to duct tape one of those wingy thingies to my old man longboard and i’ll be high as a Kai!
First time I seen foiling Brock little was doing it back in the 90s, but mostly on open water, crazy how far it's come,
Kai is the King!!!
next level Kai !! ✨👊🏼✨ unreal

Amazing how much speed you can get on that thing in waves that small
Kai is the Master!!!
Kites, foils, sup, big waves, small waves he does it all!
Tell Peter King that his Tour Notes videos are greatly missed!! 🎬📽🎥
Would like to see a session on very rough seas, cutting through it all like butter. To Kai waves are no longer a danger, just suggestions
that last flip is wild
That opening back landing was quality.
This stuff in shallows is dangie tho... specially for stunts so ...careful.
King Kai
Absolutely sick get me on one!
Thumbs down for the F bomb btw, but the potential glory of this sport looks terrific.
Thanks for sharing
People don't understand how hard this is
Whoop whoop 🙌🏼 🎉
The only explanation is that Kai is an alien.
Coooooool yeeeeaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!
Ok I want one .as always .”King Kai”The bar always Coming up.after your examples truthbeingshowed#👽✌
I love a good verranda - epic!
Go to Nazare to check if it’s really efficient 😊😊
dont get much better than that
Didn't know flips were possible on these, damn
a little bit of imagination and the right board....and a shite load of awesomeness talent, skill etc etc etc 😃
when the foil hits the reef?
I've never seen pipeline that small.
Loyal to the foil
This guy is creating a bag of tricks for future surfers like Rodney Mullen did for skating.
Makes me wish I was younger brother😎👍
Agreed.
How old are you?
Plenty of 60+ year olds are wing foiling. Age is just a number.
Mal foils?
Don't be so tough on yourself. Age has nothing to do with it.
So long as you're physically fit and at a high enough skill level you'll be fine! 😛🤙🏽
🤙from Tahiti excellent

Hero of the sea
Shit its mid november and pipe is a lake! Sand is piled up..... not good.
That would be cool to see on big water
@kai Lenny was that Peter King with you?
Fucking LEGEND!
Greetings from Italy!🤙🏻
The foil gies all over the place!
2nd to Kai Lenny: DO THE FLIP!!
I luv it....and I have no idea how it works ... magic I guess
Are their rules that you can't show up for a contest with a foil? Just a long, big fin.
Not seen anyone else even land a jump on one of these things, then there Kia is ripping flips
yeeeaaaaah!...Gofoil!...PeterKing!

It's a new age

You really need to know the water depth or you'll be in for a faceplant.
Awesome stuff though, this guy makes it all look easy.
What size mast is that ?

where do i get these?
The skills? You gotta be born with them. 😂
