The Converse Chuck Taylor 70’s! A little upgrade to their old digs you see! The classic Chuck Taylors are legendary but there were a lot of cost saving measures taken in the 80’s and 90’s when Converse wasn’t as popular as when they pretty much owned the market. But fear not! 10 years after they were bought by Nike they faithfully reproduced chucks how they were made in the 70’s and WOWIE KAPOWIIE are they better! Also these are not high tops and I have a troubled past with high tops but...maybe one day I’ll get a pair. I just need to overcome the pain and agony of trying to put them on first.

Ah, my old friend / enemy the Chuck Taylor. I wore these basically from middle school until I was 25 or so because 1.) before Nike bought them they were $25 a pair, 2.) if your mom wouldn't buy you Jordans, in the 80's-90's they made Chucks in every color and pattern imaginable so you could still try and be fly and 3.) I had the opposite problem you had in that I always had big feet so Chucks were the best fitting show for me. The downside was that (and I assume still is): they are very heavy, they have no arch support (an orthopedist told one of my friends that Chucks have essentially put both his kids through college), if you get them wet, it's a wrap; and the sole will develop a gigantic hole before anything else on the shoe fails. I'm glad they reduced the toe box to make them look less like clown shoes but the downside is, how are kids supposed to draw anarchy symbols on them now? I wish they'd take a cue from Vans and make something like the Old School Pros which have arch support and more padding for us olds who are less likely to kickflip then just collapse from back pain these days.
Hahahaha how could I forget to mention that since the toe cap is so small you have a smaller canvas! And I’ll be interested to see if a lot of those problems still plague the shoes or if they are fixed! Interested about the no arch support though as I’ve heard that a TON
@@TheIronSnail They're the flattest shoe you can buy. They've had a strange second life as the shoe of choice for power lifters because they're the next best thing to bare feet.

Uniquely, for the 70s (can’t do this with modern non-70s), you can 100% take the insole out and replace it. I have a pair of superFeet pseudo-orthotics in mine, which sir right on the poron in the bottom.
I’ve worn the 70s with SuperFeet Blacks on 10+ mile walks and felt great!
Never liked the look of Jordan’s. Oversized goofy looking and frankly, cheap looking shoe that happens to be overpriced. Jordan himself must be laughing his ass off.
As for the fit, i chose my regular size and they fit me perfectly. However, when going for the cheep all strars i recommend to size down half a size.

I've been going through a pair a year since 2020 and currently on my fourth. Very comfortable shoe considering it's make and occasion. I wear them at work on slick concrete floors, and often walk hard and fast for full shifts. Honesty They'd last me longer if I just didn't feel like buying a new pair or didn't get them covered in grout or something.
I've owned a few pairs of the run of the mill low tops and hi top converse, but a few weeks ago I bought a pair of the Carhaart colab Chuck 70s and all I can say is OH MY GOD ONCE I WAS BLIND BUT NOW I SEE!

The toe cap is a godsend design. Why? I had a Vans and it didn’t last for years because my toenail kinda poke a hole through the canvas. I have to find a way to cover those hole so i can save my Vans

i originally wore a size 9.5 but i decided to try smaller to get rid of the clown shoe look. I ended up fitting into a size 8.5. Whole size down. I normally wear a 10 and a 9 in boots.
Exactly, I did the same thing. I wear a size down to get rid of the clown 🤡 look. I hate that about converse but they are a cool shoe.
It’s a crime that the 70’s do not come in wide sizes.

I’ve got like 6 pairs of chuck 70s and they’re the best looking sneakers, but….. the toe box goes narrow so fast up there and I can’t really wear them for more than 10 hours at a time. It’s sad.

about chucks 70's... it has a narrow toe box, narrover than classic chuck's has, so if your feets are wide it needs to go up a half size or a full size and do not lace it up to much. if not, say "good bye" to your pinkies :)

May I add that the rubber toe box is to protect the canvas when dragging the foot from behind you as you are playing basketball. After all the Chucks had been constructed to actually do sports in them 😁
hello, is there a difference in size between the regular all star and the chuck 70? Many believe that I have to buy 1/2 or 1 size smaller to fit correctly. Is that so? Greeting
The converse website says to order both styles a half size down.
I like to call the 'front' of my shoes the toe. That said, I love wiggling my bows in a cool stream.

If you like canvas shoes you should check out Novesta. Its a great brand which makes shoes similar to Converse for a good price and great Quality

on the second to last hole loop under the tongue and through the next hole coming out from under and then tie it off, basically keeps the tongue situated

Like you video. Also like the clean simple silhouette of chucks. But the quality of them is unacceptable. Forced to pay a premium for the chuck 70s is not okay either. So I bought some Pro Keds royals and it was like night and day. They have almost the same quality as the 70s for like $5 bucks more than the og.
I wore regular old Converse shoes a long time. It messed up my feet but hey, anything for fashion I guess...

The 70s are much more durable. Typically wear thru the regular ones every 5-6 months and been wearing the same 70s pair for 2 years.
I usually wear 9.5 but sized down to an 8, if anyone here that rocks 9.5 and wanted to know what size to get.

They are unbelievable quality but just going from the measurements they are sized a bit odd! The shoulders seem smaller than I’d expect but I haven’t tried one on so it may be fine

for some reason i wear size 10 vans and size 10 chuck 70s, the 70s fit pretty well and the vans fit relatively tight, vans typically fit small while converse says to size down, i wear filas in womens size 12 and the chuck 70s mens size 10 are womens size 12, i like my vans fitting smaller/tighter (still plenty of toe space for me) and my converse i like a bit looser
who knows maybe i got my converse slightly too big or my vans too small but i like both shoes a lot
I’ve been on regular ass Chucks for years... imo, quality has gone to shit after Nike bought them. 2020, I’ve gone to adidas Ultraboost & Yeezys... but, I’ve really considered ‘70s (**that’s the colorway I want too, maybe the high??)

I saw in a store chucks with loops and the 70s model without. kinda strange, why would they add that to the cheaper model but not the more expansive 70s. are they fake? also, yours don't have the tongue loop. very confused.

Nope! Some shoes I find through there’s a brief time between new and worn where they squeak and maybe I’m just not there
Pretty sure it’s not the insole. Some of the canvas on the interior, especially at the heel and the sides of your feet has a coating on it that squeaks when you’re sweaty socks rub up against it. not really sure how to fix, but I just wear thicker socks and they don’t squeak

Why don’t Converse come with tongue loops anymore? Why must, during the day, I have to pull up the tongue from the toes of my shoe? It’s turned me off from the brand. I may no longer buy Converse anymore! In fact, I won’t.

@@TheIronSnail oh okay, thought they looked a bit snug in the thighs, which tends to happen after the 1st wash/shrink. they fit nice in the leg though, maybe it'll stretch back out with more wear.
Oh i think they are always gonna be just a little awkwardly slim so i have other pairs now that fit way better!

I believe Converse (Nike) should stop producing the post 2000's "regular" Chuck Taylor. Chuck 70 is the real Converse Chuck Taylor! It's like the 70's and 80s Chucks we used to see around.
