I own a pair of converse that are actually from the early 1970s. And I must say they are quite comfortable. I would like to see you do a video comparing the Chuck 70s to an original pair from the 1970s.
Glad you got yourself a pair of 70s after the last video! The inner canvas hasn’t worn out at all for me at least, and I’ve been wearing the hell out of these. I’ve never seen the Novesta here in the US but I’d love to try them out. Thumbs up!
If you want to check out novesta there are a couple places that sell them. I got mine at a store called Clever Luck here in Denver. They have a website if you’re interested.
I've had my pair of chuck 70's for more than two years now with consistent wear through that time - so far I have no complaints whatsoever, besides maybe the outsole being a bit soft and wearing down in certain areas like the heel. They're worth the 80 or 85 USD, but if you can find them on sale there's absolutely no reason you shouldn't get yourself a pair.
this was a really fun video, and i thought i'd share my experience with my Chuck 70s after almost 1 year of wear (as well as some months of skating in them) my absolute favorite thing about the 70s is the tongue construction. the two lateral stitchings you see on each shoe is actually because the tongue has a winged shape that hugs your toes. that creates a 5 layer of canvas region for your toes. to me it just feels so amazing, so tight, rigid and secure, it gives me a lot of precision when skating, a lot of lateral support and gives the feeling like the shoes are just an extention of my foot. then i also love the memory foam midsole, that blue foam underneath the insole. it just makes this shoe the most comfortable sneaker i've ever owned. i also love how durable and tough they are, they have a lot of rubber and the canvas upper has still not disappointed me even after a lot of skating and cleaning. they still feel like they have a brand new structure. finally, they are absolutely the most beautiful pair of shoes in my opinion. they look so mature, so tough but also so casual and cool. so many small details and textures, but such a simple and classic sillhouette. they've held up amazing for so long under many rough conditions and they are as comfortable, durable and beautiful as ever. and just to correct some of the things you said in the video: yes, they are definitely vulcanized, and being vulcanized does not mean that you need to be able to see the rubber melted onto the upper. in fact, almost every modern vulcanized shoe has tried to not have that happen, i'm surprised the Novestas still do. and second, please do not put your shoes into the washing machine lol, Converse themselves tells you to avoid that at all costs.
Food for thought... taking the CX insole from my Chuck 70 Marquis (cushier than normal Chuck 70) and putting it into my Novesta Star Dribble, I found their comfort much improved. Although I lose out on the arch support, the cushy comfort more than makes up for it for me (I have normal arches). The connected ground feel of Novessta's rubber insole can be a pleasant experience, but it also transmits a lot of vibration and impact as you walk, so I'm enjoying blending the best of both worlds into a single shoe.
Just purchased my first pair of Novesta’s today. My biggest curiosity is per their sizing. I was told to go “…a whole size down” so I did. I live in the states and my usual athletic shoe size a US 11.5/ UK 11. So I went with a UK 10. Here’s to crossed fingers!
I've had both chuck 70s and Novesta. For me, the novesta are a far more durable shoe. However, the chuck 70s are decent, but the sole did wear away after a year, and the tongue kept twisting. Winner, Novesta. With an added bonus of looking premium and not having the majority of people knowing what you're wearing.
I don’t think people buy canvas shoes for support reasons. It’s all about lack of structure, flexibility, lightness. I recently bought a pair of novestas and I’m trying to think what I can replace the insoles with, they are too heavy and the arch is so high. I’m trying to chase and find an upmarket pair of feiyue shoes. They are dafu now, £10 on aliexpress!
I think it’s all about what your feet need. I need the support in the arch. I had a pair of Feiyue for Kung Fu and there were fine for that but as a shoe to wear day to day they would ruin my feet.
I have owned my Chuck 70s now for about 9 months and they are beginning to fall apart around where your foot bends as you walk. However, I can’t say that they are not a durable shoe, as I have worn them every single day to college and work. So basically if you wear only Chuck 70s every day for about 12-14 hours a day, you can expect them to last you about 9 months. I also would say that if you have extremely flat feet like I do, you are going to need some sort of insert that gives arch support but also one that will actually fit the silhouette of the shoe.
Hey man can you please do a guide to novesta shoes, I really like them but I can’t find any info on them, I live in the us, can you talk about size fit and all that crap?
Totally agree! i love the look of chucks, but i've had many pairs, and they only hold up for about 4-5months, and then they fall apart, especially on the sides where the toes bend. I have 2 pairs on novestas, a pair of highs, and a pair of lows. They seem to hold together a bit better, and the insole is pretty comfortable 😊
Hi, I would like to by a pair of novestas but I can find them only on online shops, so can't try them before bying. Can you telle me how novestas size compare to converse as you have both of them. Can you telle me what size you wear for each sneaker?
My inner canvas of the chuck 70's mostley fail around the one year mark (heavy wear). being where my big toe is and at the heel. But I never got and discomfort from that. I cannot wear them for full walking days in them too flat and after a while the insole loses some of it's squishiness. They last me max 1,5-2 years thats when the upper canvas it's getting to riped up.
I just had the opportunity to compare these, and I likewise prefer the Novesta over the Chuck 70, but it 's not quite as clear-cut a choice for me. I prefer the lighter weight, softer feel, and more breathable canvas upper of the Novesta, and its mid/outer sole is more flexible and has better ground feel, while having a sturdy insole w/ surprising arch support. That said, for casual wear, I find the Chuck 70 more stylish, recognizable, & refined-looking (not a fan of Novesta's front seam, which cheapens the look for me), plus you can get them at deep discounts nowadays (e.g., I got the upgraded Marquis version factory-direct for only $30). Thanks for the review.
I have had many pairs of Chuck 70s and they are great, at least much better than the All Stars. I’ve worn them for a year straight as well and they were pretty beat up. The sole tends to separate and at that point their life is pretty much over. I really like them though, you get the classic feel of converse with much better quality. I would love to try the Converse Made In Japan or some vintage Made In USA to see what quality was like on those
Hey cee are dee, Do you know if the star dribble insoles fit the chuck 70? I saw that you can order insoles from novesta. This would fix the arch support issue for the chuck 70
@@CeeAreDee haha, i still got a pair of chuck 70’s though 😬. Would be better to just replace the insoles for now. I’m gonna buy a pair of insoles and cut them to the size of the converse insoles. Thanks for your reply!
Personally I think the weakness of the chuck taylors is the sole. It just doesn't give any support and it gets internally destroyed too quick. After a while it's like if there's a black hole under your heel and it's just bad for your body. Love the look though.
hello, is there a difference in size between the regular all star and the chuck 70? Many believe that I have to buy 1/2 or 1 size smaller to fit correctly. Is that so? Greeting
To be honest there seems to be a huge difference between the different manufacturing runs. In both sizing and details and quality. So I’d be reluctant to give any concrete advice.
I switched to the 70's a few years ago but the 70's always fail in the midsole/ outsole.... the glue that holds the outsole to the midsole fails and I end up with a hole between the brown rubber on bottom and white sidewall rubber. This has happened with every single pair of 70's that I own. Earliest was 3 months in.... longest it took was 9 months.
This only ever happened to me with normal All Stars, they Vulcanize their heels, and the 70s are reinforced, I really wish they just used a cup sole, it would hold up so much better

I have two pairs of chuck 70s in that color and in black, the thing that bothers me the most is that the eyelets start to leave this black gunk/residue on the laces and the tongue after a certain period of time. MADDENING.
I have a pair of high top parchment chuck 70s and a pair of high top ecru gum bottom novestas. Love them both. I really like the waffle rubber sole on the novestas and I like the thickness on the new chuck 70s. Both are awesome 👌🏻 I can't say one is superior. These are the only canvas sneaks I have, I want to try US rubber companies sneaks, they look to be Sligh higher quality than novesta and chuck 70s.
I guess I’m the odd man out. I had mine for less than a year and the bottom sole came apart from the rest. The uppers are much better then the regular but still a let down.
Chuck 70s were never for me either. Mine squeaked and creaked when I walked or even just stood up and moved my feet slightly. They fit very long and narrow as well. They look amazing but Novestas are just so much better.
I never understood why people say they fit big. I pick my regular size, 45. The number is indeed the insole length. My feet are about 29 cm and I choose the 30 cm size.
The Chuck 70 has an older model with a marginally thicker canvas and a slightly different, more rigid insole. The older model has a dark grey and more firm insole while the new model has a softer more squishy lighter grey insole. The laces on the older model are nicer and thicker. I prefer the slightly older model because the shoe is slightly more rigid and actually weighs slightly more.
I too was a new convert to the Chuck 70s a few years back, and anytime I hear someone talking about how they don't like Chucks or don't find them comfortable, I tell them about these. Welcome to the club! :D I'm on my second pair now, and only had to get rid of my first because I wore through the bottom. First time that ever happened to me with Chucks - the old pairs would always die from sidewall separation. Regarding sizing - I went a down a half size with my first pair because they felt a little long. They were snug at first but got more comfortable as I wore them in. My second pair I ordered my normal size, and overall I'm MUCH happier with them.
@@CeeAreDee I purchased two CT70 Limited Editions a couple of month ago, one in brown suede, one in brown pull-up leather. Before wearing I gave both to my cobbler. He added a rubber outsole, so it will be very easy to replace it when worn down! I replaced the original insoles with my orthopedic insoles, so I have a lot of arch support and the overall comfort is great!
I wore converse all through the 90s and my last pair was in 2010. I recently bought a pair of classic chucks and they were total crap. The canvas is different and crappy and the lining is spongey. They’re more crap then they used to be. So I grabbed some Chuck 70. They’re significantly better. Yes. But the sizing and fit feel different. Like the 12s are too big and the 11.5 too small. It’s maddening. Adidas Nizza fit great
The lack of the lace loop on the Chuck 70’s is such a bust for me. The tongue may as well be a silverware linen. Otherwise, it’s perfect. Just a frustrating omission to a more expensive and “upgraded” version of the bare bones All-Star classic.
I’m getting my first pair of Novesta’s in a few days. I’ll let you know. I opted to go down a size per the customer service rep. (11/45=11.5 US. My usual size. I went with a size 10.)

I always have a chuck classic in my rotation ever since i can remember wearing shoes and yes i agree that the 70s are better than the classics but i still have a classic in my wardrobe and only use it for special occasions(example: i wore them in my friends wedding with a suit. I also wore the classic with suit combo whenever I do a presentation in the office, i am known in the office as the "sneakerhead"). But on a regular day mondays - thursday chuck 70s and friday(or sometimes saturday) other fancy sneaker(or trainers). Ans so far my last pair of 70s had been with me for 3 and half(from the time i post this comment 04/16/2023) so the build quality is significantly greater than the classic which only last me 1 and a half year(2 years if i am luck).
I was never a big fan of the Chucks, I had my first pair when I was 45-ish it was a leather model and damn they were uncomfortable ! Then I slided my feet in Jack Purcells... no more Chucks for myself, only Jacks ! I have a canvas pair and a leather pair. The only downside : not easy to get high tops, my two pairs are lows.
I don't care: I wear the Classic version, customized in the custom part of the Converse official web site. And the custom version has the lace loop and binding to finish the sneakers. There is NOTHING that compares to classic Chuck Taylor Converse All-Stars. I've been wearing a new pair EVERY DAY, all day, since February! The sole is nice and squishy. And I clean the rubber with toothpaste and a discarded old brush. A new custom pair of pastel tie-dyes for summer is on its way (after they finish making them) and my shoelaces are already here! I'm happy! They have wide-widths! For little feet like mine! (I'm a lady.) I have A COLLECTION from the 1980s!!! They are now too small and some unusual styles will make MUCH MONEY on eBay to pay for my new custom Classics!!! They make me happy. 😁

Agree. They started on making new models like the 70s, chucks 2.0 and other more. But sadly the original chuck taylor all star was left behind infact the quality became really poor. Maybe its a strategy of nike to lessen the quality for the other models to shine.

@@CeeAreDee nope! No rust. I think it has to do with the eyelets being cheap.
Weird. Hope it’s not lead or something harmful 😟
what model of Novestas are those and where can you buy them in Canada?
Many older people now have wide feet..I noticed the standard chucks now come in wide! The bad news is not in the chuck 70s
Why no mention or link to the Novestas in the comments?
I have a pair of high top parchment chuck 70s and a pair of high top ecru gum bottom novestas. Love them both. I really like the waffle rubber sole on the novestas and I like the thickness on the new chuck 70s. Both are awesome 👌🏻 I can't say one is superior. These are the only canvas sneaks I have, I want to try US rubber companies sneaks, they look to be Sligh higher quality than novesta and chuck 70s.
I really want those pair of Novestas but they sold out 😕
I guess I’m the odd man out.
Any help on Novesta sizing? I’ve heard they fit big. Is the number on the sole the insole length in cm? Thanks
That's weird my converse have that little tab on the tounge
Hmm. Different factories and production batches perhaps.
They are good. The only thing I don't like Is the toe box isnt as roomy as the all stars.
I too was a new convert to the Chuck 70s a few years back, and anytime I hear someone talking about how they don't like Chucks or don't find them comfortable, I tell them about these. Welcome to the club! :D
I'm on my second pair now, and only had to get rid of my first because I wore through the bottom.
They seem bang on with the sizing. I’ll have to say. Novesta are not that good in that regard. Sizes are all over the place n
So staying TTS is the better option for chuck 70s really then? I'm thinking of getting a pair but torn re sizing
My fav Chuck style sneakers: Nike SB HUFxBlazer Premium SE in Black and in Natural.
The Novesta's look sweet. Does anyone have a pair in the States? I've been considering Nothing New for my next canvas pair.
I’m getting my first pair of Novesta’s in a few days. I’ll let you know. I opted to go down a size per the customer service rep. (11/45=11.5 US. My usual size. I went with a size 10.)
@@BrianVonClick yes please let me know that you think. Is your usual size your Brannock size or what size you wear in a specific shoe? Thanks
@@BrianVonClick hi curious how your Novesta's are working out for you. Thanks for your time.
love the video
These but japan made with the vibram sole is crazy. they’re called Converse addicts.
not to mention the converse seem to not care about people with wide feet. i discovered the navestas a while now as well
Man i miss the look of these i gota cop me a pair in natural asap!
The red and the blue are melted onto the converse actually
Have a look at converse addict is basically the highest quality converse you could get
CEE R DEEE YOU NEDD TO TRY THE 150$ MADE IN JAPAN MODELS TOO :O only can get them on ebay too I think
The colourway is called parchment..
10:03 the 70s outsole not durable i notice when i walking long distance street and idid not abuse heel down outsole scrape the surface ground and i walk normally crease them and walk and the heel outsole are damage the millimeter maybe 5 and i will used them long day to test if still durable compare to classic and the grip of 70s in little dust in tiles and its not grip and squeak .
I bought a pair of converse recently. I’ve only worn them probably less than 10 times, and the rubber has come away and split. Fuckin useless.
The 70s? Or the shitty original all stars?
2:24 hahaha throwing fits reference?
Haha. Dude. So glad someone got it 😂
You literally only opened it and talked but didn't try them one bit tho
There's made in Japan converse too for about 150$ on ebay
👟
I was never a big fan of the Chucks, I had my first pair when I was 45-ish it was a leather model and damn they were uncomfortable !
Then I slided my feet in Jack Purcells... no more Chucks for myself, only Jacks ! I have a canvas pair and a leather pair.
The only downside : not easy to get high tops, my two pairs are lows.
Never tried a pair. I do like the grin tho.
🙏
From Malden MA here 🤙🤙🤙
I love my novestas a lot, I’ll have to check out the 70’s now.
70s are good. But I’m still a novesta fan for life. 😂
@@CeeAreDee I’m stoked the store I used to work at here in Denver carries Novesta. Once I found them I purchased a couple pairs.
You need to try the 150$ made in Japan high tops
Most important is that you get a trainer that works. 😊
@@CeeAreDee ❤️ I have New Balance for cardio exercise and for hikes, L.L. Bean Knife Edge light hikers. Hey, an idea! Review some brands of light hiking boots! Not the giant work boots, but strictly for hiking. Bean had wide widths.
Novestas are made in Slovakia, whereas Converse are made in Vietnam. That alone is argument enough for me to choose Novesta.
Old chucks are a scam, but the 70s are great imo.
He owns the other shoe brand lol
Nike blazers are better imo
Pf flyers and pro keds are also superior to chucks, 70s or otherwise
I heard thar pf we’re being closed down.
Completely subjective, but there is no winning against the aestethic of Converse Chuck 70s. If only they had a shank and were resolable.
Total garbage worst things to walk around in unless you go everywhere in a car. These things have ZERO support.
totally agree
Other than converse lacks versatility.
This guy is biased as can be. He can’t just give it to the Cons because he is brand loyal to the other brand?? Terrible review
Dude just buy converse made in Japan models
Are they that much better tho?
crocking incoming
Going to return them.
When Nike bought converse all of their shoes got better in general
Agree. They started on making new models like the 70s, chucks 2.0 and other more. But sadly the original chuck taylor all star was left behind infact the quality became really poor. Maybe its a strategy of nike to lessen the quality for the other models to shine.
@@theyellowgoat6372 yeah i guess i would buy it just for the nostalgia :P
I stopped wearing converse a long time ago. they're so uncomfortable
Even the Chuck 70s?
@@CeeAreDee I haven’t tried the 70’s. I find the flat footedness of the sole off-putting. And they always seem quite narrow too.
Clown shoes. :-)
