Remember a key element of AoS strategy. When you take a double turn, you always give your opponent the ability to double turn you right back. When the young lady took the double turn from round one into round two she set her self up for an overextended army and a devastating riposte. It would have arguably been wiser at the end of round one to give the turn to her opponent and keep the possibility of her own double turn until later in the game. Never take a double turn unless you have a specific plan for it, lest you overextend your lines.
Once you control an objective you can move contesting models off it and continue to control it. So, although you no longer have models contesting the objective, you maintain control of it. I hope that makes sense!
So you can also contest an objective even if you don't control it. This battlepack is confusing - you're doing a great job!

For the wound-ignoring thing on the Liege: The Godbone Armour refers to "the first Wound allocated to the bearer" each phase, which does *not* mean a successful Wound Roll, unfortunately it's tricky like that. At the end off the attack sequence (so after hit rolls, wound rolls and saves) you calculate the damage total and *then* start allocating "Wounds" to individual models in the unit, one by one. So actual "Wounds" *are* essentially points of Damage, which is what the ability refers to.
So as strange as it sounds, a Wound Roll, by itself, has nothing to do with Wounds (yet).
For Details, see point 14 on page 16 of the core rules.
Makes sense. Otherwise I'm sure it would say "successful wound rolls against this model" or something like that.
Katie; why did you stop rolling the Curse of Years after only 8 MW? You can keep rolling until you fail was my understanding!
02:33 That is actually what they used to do. When the OBR first came out the Petrifex Elite got +1 to their save as a base upgrade, so with mystic shield you could get Mortek Guard with a 2+ save, re-rolling all fails and with a 6+ Deathless save and a 5+ MW save. It. Was. Brutal. Every single OBR list was Petrifex, none of the others ever saw play outside of fun games just because Petrifex was 110% better than they were. Eventually GW nerfed it, much slower than they would if they came out now, to give them re-rolls of 1 to save which was awful because the OBR could get that through Nagash, spells or the Mortel shield-wall ability, so nobody used them after that.
It's much better now with a -1 to rend, what it should have been in the first place. Petrifex is the best if you don't use Katakros, if you do Mortis Praetorians is the go-to choice. I also think Null Myriad can have a place if you know your meta is heavy with magic like Lumies and Tzeentch.
Right now though OBR are in the lower tier of factions because we just haven't been able to adapt to the current meta. Especially since we can't access all the basic command abilities like all-out attack/defense or redeploy. Points reductions are nice but for the OBR to reclaim our strong win rate we need both a new book and some new units, preferably Mortek Archers like the Underworlds mini, and for upgrades to some of our more underperforming units like Deathriders.
Fun fact btw, OBR are much bigger than you'd think. In the novels Mortek Guard are frequently described as 8ft tall, so imagine how big the Deathriders and Necropolis Stalkers would be.
I could be wrong, but I believe the sub-commanders for the Warlord battalion need to be under or equal to 10 wounds as per the Core Rules (26.3). I know we are still learning and keep up the work, i love seeing AoS!
yep. The app will make you choose sub commanders with lower wound counts. It is why I have a hard time doing it in Sylvaneth. Most Treefolk heroes have ten or more wounds.

I thought the same thing about the bone bois at 2:50. That color scheme is fantastic. Every time I watch Tabletop Tactics I'm blown away at how great the armies look.
One minor thing for curse of years, once you get to the rolling 2’s, you keep going untill you get all 1’s instead of just stopping so it can spiral heavily if you roll well
Yes and you do get to roll ward rolls in-between each damage roll as well per an FAQ which can remove future dice from the spell's damage pool.

Just a minor order of operation thing. Dispelling endless spells happens at the start of the hero phase, before actual spellcasting starts. It matters, because you can dispel and endless spell at the start of your opponent's turn, preventing him/her from casting it. (You cannot cast an endless spell that has been dispelled on the same turn).
Unfortunately, you cannot issue more than 1 command to the same unit in the same phase in OBR. What you can do, is issue the same command, like shieldwall, on several units at the same time.

Re: defensive Mortek buffs, guard can issue themselves Shield Wall (warscroll ability) to reroll failed saves.

Fantastic seeing you guys enjoy AoS. Just a note: In bottom of R2 when all those Mortek Guard died...didn't they have Shield Wall for RR saves? Looks like the RRs weren't done...
That was a great match to watch! Hopefully both of these armies get their new rule books relatively soon. It's very obvious they're still 2nd edition books, especially Ossiarch Bonereapers being an even older book than Soulblight gravelords but the white dwarf rules do help.
Well by summer of next year two more death armies will have 3rd edition books.

Excellent game! A couple of tidbits about Curse of years that you may have missed:
1) roll 10 dice, 6’s are mortal wounds. If the target has saves against mortal wounds/ward saves, these can be taken before the wounds are allocated. Any saved wounds do not count as dice to be rolled in the next round.
2) after the first roll, you add a single dice to your hand each time.
Example: you roll ten dice and score five 6’s. The opponent has a 6+ ward. They roll five dice and save one. 4 dice were successful and will be used in the next round. Add one dice. Now, roll five dice looking for 5+. You roll four 5+. Ward saves are taken on the four successes and the enemy fails all of them. Four dice advance to the next round. Plus one additional dice. You now roll five dice looking for 4+. You roll three 4+. They roll ward saves. They save none. All three dice advance to the next round. Plus one. You roll four dice looking for 3+. This continues until you fail to score a mortal wound or the unit is destroyed.
I’ve used this to annihilate units and it’s a blast if the rolls go well:) killed fifteen chaos warriors in one casting a few months ago.
Some scenarios says you must activate an objective from t2 onwards. You may still contest these, even if they are not active. So they dont count towards hold 1 hold more, but will still work for against the odds. Hope this helps

grave guard with vyrkos do feel like one of the best units in the book, super solid! Both special characters i've had pretty decent success as well, Grandma wolf & the Beast! Know you don't have zombies yet, but they can do a pretty okay job grinding and blocking up space on the board. Surprisingly alright sometimes if you just fish for mortals on 6s. Skellies really don't ever do damage, only try to tank :D

only from the spells of the Soulblight Lore, not the personal spells or the generic ones
In AoS, "contesting" an objective is not dependent on "control" if it, they are technically two seperate things. "Contesting", for an individual model, basically just means "being in range of an objective", that is essentially one rule (18.1.2 on page 21 of the core rules to be exact). Objective marker control (18.1.1) then cares about how many models on each side are currently contesting it at the end of a turn, but the models themselves don't care about that, no matter which side controls a certain objective, *all* of the models in range contest it so long as they are in range (and there are no special rules currently messing with that, which there are...).
You could say: "'Contesting' is a thing models do, 'controlling' something a player (or a side) does."

As you were discussing, I really like the possibility of the double turn in AOS. It's a rule that makes you think about your strategy. Also, just an aside, having rules in a WD is what WD should do imo. It's vastly superior to what WD was in the bad old days, i.e. an advertising pamphlet.

The double turn is amazing and great. It means you actually have to think a turn ahead. Which apparently is really difficult for some people lol.
@ 1:16:50 As far as I know, you can only resurrect with Endless Legions in Soulblight battleshock phase. Could be wrong, as I got back to the hobby half year ago myself, but I remember hearing that in one of AoS Coach episodes either with Mat Tyrell or Matt Kowalyk. As SBG player I would be happy to be able to do it in every turn tho, not gonna lie
Per the FAQ, its done in "the Battleshock Phase", not "your Battleshock Phase". So it's usable in both 🙂

I had a good laugh with this one. Lawrence finally feels the sting of the 6s. Still a good relatively close battle and I don't even know AoS rules well enough to comment on anything.

Hey I'm watching this late but wanted to say when you start a turn you should do heroic actions first, this will let your opponent decide if they want to make one of their heroes able to unbind when you cast your magic. Now, on with the show!

AoS is a much better spectator sport than 40k imo. Blasting people from range is a lot harder to visualize than the units clashing in combat and dragons flying around

Great content as usual-loving the sigmar reports, it's just a much better game than 40k at the moment. The only thing that's probably an unpopular opinion but one shared by a few lads and lasses at my gaming club is I'm struggling to warm to Jinx. Couldn't put my finger on why but my wife overhears me listening to these videos whilst feeding youngest and she pointed out that it always seems like people aren't having fun when they play her, and her tone changes when things aren't going her way (my wife knows nothing of the game but pointed out the points in the video where things were going badly just by Jinx's tone). I suppose when you compare it to the enthusiasm Beard, Bard even Chef maintain when things aren't going well they all seem to still enjoy themselves but that doesn't come across with jinx and makes her battles a bit less engaging. As there was a few of us gamers that noticed it (along with my missus), might be a micro behaviour that she isn't aware of. But apart from that great armies and terrain as usual.

Don't know how a vampire which craves blood would attack a skeleton which are notorious for not having blood. But we'll see 🤔.
In lore, the Ossiarch Bonereapers attacked and attempted to destroy the Wight Kings (the skeleton generals) for their bones, so in defense the Wight Kings and their skeleton hordes became close allies with the Soulblight Gravelords. Also, the Ossiarch Bonereapers in lore very much think of themselves as the superior Death force who are completely loyal to Nagash (hence Arkhan being in charge of them) whereas the other Death forces aren't as worth much in the Bonereapers side.
Those two factions have plenty of reasons to fight each other.

Id like more AoS but it seems you abandoned it.
Unfortunately the cost of producing our Battle Reports is high, and for AoS the interest/returns weren’t really enough to justify it, especially after the last GHB. However we've moved it to be part of a group of Seasonal shows, allowing us to do other formats or systems (next up is Old World), as well as potentially returning to things when interest picks up again (such as a new edition for AoS)
