    Are you a rock star? A big name singer? Someone faster in videos? Just wondering, with the hat turned wrong. You surely didn’t wear it for less wind resistance? Nice boat, nice video, thanks for sharing with all of us.

      I wore the hat to keep the hair out of my face. It wasnt sunny so i wore it backwards so the camera could see my face and hopefully veiwers would feel more of a connection with me. If I had known that some people wouldnt like it, maybe id wear it backwards all the time because i tend to push back at anyone trying to tell me what to do... ask my parents!! ( Next video, backwards hat just for you friend!)

      always hook the positive side up first,especially with a battery between your legs,,Then remove the neg. first when taking the cables off.

      Do you have the full plans yet?! Also, how did you get the top of the boat looking so great?!

    • @americanboathead5390
      @americanboathead5390  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brooklyn Avenue I havent finished it yet :( i was unsure if anyone would want it! Lol the top (thank you for the compliment btw) doesnt have any fiberglass on it which helps, also i think the curve helps it look better too. Like how its not a flat top, i put wood in the middle so the top would be domed a little. Its so shiney from the 'bar top epoxy' its not as purdy up close either lol. I wonder how detailed the building guide should be? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

      @BrooklynAvenue 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Davis Thanks! Here is some advice: you know of EVERY imperfection in your boat, but to the rest of us, we don't see those things, to us, your boat looks cool! Don't forget that most people will NEVER get as far as you have already. This speedboat style boat you built here looks like a micro version of a very high-end speedboat, something only doctors and lawyers own. But I know that you keep thinking about every flaw in it.... I feel the same way about my builds (I mostly build tiny campers).
      I have a nauticraft peddle boat that I turned into a sailboat... But there's this great river right next door to me that is too shallow for a sailboat so I want to build a copy of your boat here. I am going to try and build it tomorrow. I like Paul Elkins' boats, but yours here is even cooler.
      As for an instruction guide, I would say that the main thing is to have pix of each major step. This helps me think that I can build it too. Anyway, I will buy your measurement plans now as they will be a help.

    • @americanboathead5390

      +Brooklyn Avenue Thats exactly what i was going for!! In my town, every year there is a classic wood boat show and thats where my inspiration is from! Suuuuper expensive some of them. wow that is some good advice! First of all the 'inboard' set up i have is not good for shallow water its more than a foot below! That is my main change. But the look suffers from motor on back. I would also make it a few inches wider at least if not more... its all a trade fashion or function. I have the building guide almost ready at home and im out of town! I can send you some pics if you want of the process! Email facebook text whatever you want! But im going to get that plan out quick and do a section on close up detail regrets! Thats a GREAT piece of advice!

      @BrooklynAvenue 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Davis Thanks man! The measurement plans I got from you already will help me to start, I can cut out the bottom piece, etc. I like the dimensions small, they work for me, I like the idea of carrying this in my pickup truck.I like that it will be relatively light (My sailboat is 384 pounds).
      I agree that the outboard motor hurts the look, and that what you did is very cool. Fortunately, the water in the Wekiva River (the river in florida right next to me) is deeper than 1 foot in all places, so I should be OK. When I say shallow, I mean that my sailboat needs at least 3 feet of clearance in all places, which is why it's a problem. When a sailboat gets stuck in 2-3 feet of water, you have to get out and push it. Here, in Florida, the alligators look for idiot sailors.
      With your boats, rowing should be easy if something goes wrong. And they are so stylish I bet that people will fight over towing me in...Seriously, people get excited over novel looking boats. You spoke about this experience... you like that you get interest, but sometimes it feels funny when people pay so much attention.

    One fine looking boat! Keep making refinements Brian. Find a home for the battery and add blocks to keep it from sliding around when the boat shifts. Definite thumbs up!!

    • @americanboathead5390
      @americanboathead5390  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Paul Elkins Thank you! Most of things i did different than yours made for worse handling. I figured the weight of the motors down under the boat would keep it from tipping. It does not. It tries to roll the boat hahaha And its not removable so the boat is much heavier and very awkward to haul/store. Thats what i get for choosing form over function! I may lock the motor and add a rudder... I never thought about my battery sliding but that would be super bad!! Thank you for your videos and your advice!! Just a side note, your coroplast boats are genius!

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      how far down is the motor pod? deeper sure does give longer lever arm to try to roll it. it's looking cuter with the additions.

    • @americanboathead5390
      @americanboathead5390  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +model nutty The motor is far enough down for the blades to clear and then some. Im curious how it would act with a shaft twice as long.. i dont think it would ever climb all the way to the surface... and if the boat FEELS unstable when i turn it may still be safe especially if i dont turn too sharp at top speed! ;) more testing! i want it to be stable enough for fishing...

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      longer lever arm = more force, slightly slower acting but lots more determined! it'd help to put maybe 12 degrees angle on the shaft (shaft forward at bottom) so when it tries to roll, it's a little more like banked turning. I'd give it only an inch of clearance to prop tip for less leverage, it'll be slightly more than that when turned if you put that down angle in. less a worry if it's not outside chine grabbing, like turn left but leaning hard outside right (been there, ouch!).

    • @americanboathead5390
      @americanboathead5390  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +model nutty That would ideal! I think i could do it too! Angle bore a hole through a block etc! I hate to give up on the inboard, but its flawed from the get go and after everything it may still handle poorly! Ill try cheap and easy first of course! ;)

      @americanboathead5390  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tim Weston Thank you! There is an upside to not well funded. The main thing being the freedom to just 'make it work'! The downside is the i wind up with qwirky boats that dont handle great! Lol its really fun either way and comments like yours make me proud and glad i put the videos up. Ive gotten great advice so far! I would love to make an electric boat that uses lipo batteries and a brushless motor... but they are still quite spendy... thank you for watching! Cheers!

      American Boathead Is it the "Creative boat building guide" that has the plans for the boat that you're using in this video?

    • @americanboathead5390
      @americanboathead5390  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheSpeakerClub TSC the guide is srep by step how to do it. But for the pieces, you need to either make them up or use the blueprint to make them OR the plans plus pattern package has payterns that you cut out and then put together using the guide but its more expensive.

    Only issue with low speed boats is they are actually deadly, impossible to avoid danger or even navigate away from say another vessel or wave lol. Safer toy just for a pool.

    • @americanboathead5390
      @americanboathead5390  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you think that a large boat going 30+mph over waves is safer? I'm pretty sure a mini boat that stays where it very obviously should, like by the shoreline and away from waterfalls and damns etc. Is 100x safer. I may be wrong, but your comment sounds completely ridiculous... impossible to navigate away from a vessel or a wave???? Well I guess your right about waves.. pretty unavoidable on water.... smh...

      American Boathead + I made a sailboat about the same length, and then assembled a trailer from Harbor Freight. Make leaf springs from 1/4" spring steel rods, if can find some: Alro Steel. Buy a few extra. Two per side for my application. Add your boat and trailer sprung weight, divide by two, for spring flex rate. Make it to settle about 1" from the boat weight.
      Or 6" diameter PVC tube section cut out, slowly heated, flatten, shape. I don't know the endurance of the PVC though. Spring steel rods work. My boat, close to 70 lbs, rides plenty smooth.

    I've seem a couple of boats done this way, but not as pretty as this one. The only difference I saw was how the electric
    motor was mounted up closer to the boat with a stick steering and the throttle was on the steering lever. They had twin
    batteries mounted up front to cover the motor, lights and depth finder. It was a pirogue design and also used for
    duck hunting down in Louisiana.

    keep working on it, few small points if you run aground you loose rudder and power, if you hang the drive off the stern it can kick up instead, or put a skeg in front of the drive to protect it from hitting anything, first try new boat wear a PFD, also bring along a paddle if you lose power you are not helpless

    I have one made from cedar strips. Looks a little tipsy. I think I would make mine wider next time. You have to sit on the floor of the boat to act as ballast.
