    A few months ago we published the test of Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i. During reading of comments and discussions on forums and groups we encountered many complaints about the test and "justifications" for the results. The allegations concerned primarily the participation of Suzuki brand in the test (because Yaris Cross was compared with Vitara). It was suggested that the test is manipulated cause Vitara was tested in front of a Suzuki showroom, cause we put thanks to the Suzuki dealer, cause there was a lot of space in front of the Vitara and not in front of Yaris...
    For information - Suzuki dealer shared the car - and that was the end of Suzuki's participation in the test. In the past Toyota dealer also shared a car (Rav4) - then we had put thanks to Toyota. There's nothing extraordinary about it.
    As for the justification of the results - first of all, it was argued that the Yaris Cross is not an offroad vehicle, what of course we fully agree with - but our tests have not much in common with offroad - so today we compare Yaris Cross with... GR Yaris. We therefore exclude any offroad factor and we exclude the participation of any other brand in the test. Two Toyota cars - two Yaris-es - and hopefully nobody will say that GR Yaris performs great cause it's an offroader...
    AWD-i vs GR-FOUR, enjoy!

    Toyota's AWD in the Yaris Cross is pretty much useless. I dont understand why they advertise it as an AWD, when it doesn't even pass the front wheels on rollers test. Unbelievable.

    • @gt7984
      @gt7984 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because people like to think their car is off-road capable, that's partially why they buy crossovers in the first place. In the end though, crossovers are just slightly lifted city cars with some plastic cladding so even if the AWD system was decent, it wouldn't go anywhere.

  • @kinderbueno819

    well yaris cross 4wd is a crossover of 33 K euro with electric motor regarding rear drive system and the yaris cross four is a race car of 55 - 65 k euro with real 4wd system with shaft. I think this comparison is not fair. Moreover, the yaris cross is just a normal yaris with higher distance from the ground and bigger body. All in all is not real 4wd cross over as the most cars out there with out a traditional mechanical 4wd with shafts.

    I'm guessing it's the electric motors that are too weak, like on a lot of the mild hybrids from Toyota? Regardless, it an interesting video, but I'd like to see a test with the rear wheels only on rollers, the Yaris Cross might handle that one better if it's FWD biased.

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Difficult question. Lexus and Rav4 have much stronger rear electric motors but they have similar problems. Test with rear wheels on rollers - we didn't try but there should be no problems at all.

  • @duffyt26
    @duffyt26 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In the one-wheel-on-ground (last two) with the GR Yaris you need to apply a bit of brake manually to make the Torsen diff work properly. THat's why the car actually passes the tests with ESP/stability on (abs autobrakes = forces Torque to go to spinning wheel and it then passes the test) but not with esp off / expert mode. It's just how a mechanical LSD like Torsen works. When you know this it's completely unstoppable AND the GR Yaris can use both throttle and brake pedal at the same time without weird ECU warnings/errors like other normal cars. Rally is rally, you need to use the brake to pitch the nose into corners when going hard to shift weight, but also lock LSDs at times. / GR Yaris owner ^^

    You do see some strange behaviour on the Yaris Cross; with wheels not even turning when on the rollers. I wonder if some of this is software logic problems in addition to the weak motor. Perhaps the "intelligent" AWD sensors are getting confused by the zero friction scenarios. I think the Snow mode only dampens acceleration , so it is a less responsive Normal. I don't think it changes the AWD operation.

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's actually not zero friction scenario. Rollers, especially under load do have resistance - much higher than a wheel hanging in the air (what you can face even in light offroad conditions). Snow mode indeed doesn't change the awd system operation, I didn't notice any major change in TC operation to.
