    Could you have put some temporary wheels at least on the two back corners? I mean while you are dragging it to its new home.

      I was thinking about the same thing exactly .. and then lifting front up and rolling it as a trailer .. would've made life much easier for the carport as well :))

    • @David-rp3mk
      @David-rp3mk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you had some pieces of pipe, 3 inches or bigger 1 ft long, you could have put them under the bottom rail perpendicular to the rail and used them as rollers to move it. That's how I moves mine.

    looked good!! my dad and i moved a 20 x 24 building that had been part of the 2 room school house that my mother had gone too we were lucky to have some wooden bridge stringers about 6x18 in about 3 miles and across a bridge it was a "fun time" i dont remember how long it took us to get it there but we did it . it is now the family cabin with a sleeping loft worth all the effort!!! take care

    When I have moved sheds before or loaded them onto a trailer. We cut some small tree probably about 2-3 inch diameter. We would place them towards the back of the structure and the structure would roll on the small round piece of wood. WORKS GREAT!! Would also help to turn the structure if one side of the far end is off the ground.

  • @harrythehermit3685
    @harrythehermit3685 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Good job on the move. I would caution you about adding sides. Enclosed sides without substantial bracing of the ends would dramatically increase lateral load (wind force). A wind of 60mph produces a lateral load of approximately .61 psi. You can do the before and after math. .61 psi might not seem much, but enclosing would be roughly a jump of a few tons lateral load to many tons of lateral load or about 7X. That's without calculating the "drag" effect. Just my 2¢ worth.
    Good luck!

I can only imagine the conversation during the day, the fact that you two are still talking to each other now, is a testament to your love. Great job and what a great video.

    Suggestion for the black door of the carport: Make a well engineered draw up tarp door that can be hosted with a rope or chain that is weighted on the bottom. That way you can keep the drive-thru utility of the carport. You just need to prepare the area around the back of the carport.

    I admire your patience, determination and ability to come up with solutions how to do stuff. Even getting those bolts out. Once you got going onto the track it looked quite good.
    Would the Amish way been a good idea? Get lots of people to carry it?
    That was a nice compliment to Rebecca, thankfully she will put up with your need to have everything precise and at the correct angles. Thank fully you - hopefully - never need to move it again, another BIG job ticked off!!

    If you don't want to tackle the job of building a wall on the end, looking into the heavy duty trucker tarps that are used to cover their loads. My friends Dad has used them for many years, in our northern Minnesota climates, and they hold up well, and keep things clear of rain, sun and snow beating in on them.
