    I just got the DJI ones your showing, for those rainy days where you just can't get outside. and being new to flying my DJI mini 2 se even the indoor time will help, heck if you can maneuver in tight spaces indoors it will help when you're getting outdoor footage. I just got them today and haven't tried them yet but will soon, thanks for showing them. as I always say.... getting my 🚁stuck in a tree wasn't the worst thing that happened to me today, but it's still up there.

    I have both the Mini 1 and the Mini 2. I have the original DJI propellers for the Mini 1, and have fitted them perfectly on the Mini 2 and then flown the Mini 2 with no problems whatsoever. I have other PGY products, they are good, but in this case the original DJI Mini 1 propellers are good for the Mini 2. Thanks for the video!

      Hi Avraham, yep, totally agree with you, they work great with the Mini 2, however, the PGYTech cage provides a lot more protection in my opinion, being a cage it covers a lot more of the drone than the guards. They do pretty cool stuff, and most of the stuff I have bought from them is very well manufactured. Thanks!

    I watched this video and realized the usefulness of this product . When It came to ordering one it took me a long time to find one in stock anywhere in Canada or the US as it has been discontinued. I finally purchased one through PC Canada last week. With the Mini 2's arrival I think PGYTECH was premature in halting production of this product.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been getting quite a few comments like this, and it's a real shame they have decided to, as you rightly said, prematurely halt production as there is a real need for a cage like this. They sell officially on the DJI website, so maybe DJI said they don't want the competition with their guards, who knows. Looking at Amazon it seems they sold out after this video dropped, lucky you found one though, they're like gold now 🔥

  • @GGHansford
    @GGHansford 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You really need to test these in real life conditions e.g. when encountering trees/branches, with leaves poking through
    the mesh etc. What about the weight difference and the impact on flying times?

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      To be honest I've used these a few times out in the wild, but it's not something I'm a fan of, inside, sure, it works so I don't damage my walls or anything else, but outside it's not something I'd use. Hitting a tree trunk, fine, a wall, fine, but it'll get caught on a branch due to the meshing and I'll never get it down. I've lost the amount of times I've hit tree branches, all it does is either flip over and hover, or just topple down. With the cage I'd worry it would get stuck. So I recommend this for mainly indoor flying.

    • @MichaelOrtega
      @MichaelOrtega 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipSkraba Actually I have used a much open cage with this wrong and he did not get caught up with Three branches when I tried to purposely fly between them. But this happened in the winter and not in the summer so maybe in the summer with leaves it would have not worked but at least during the winter, the tiny little branches between the trees don’t really talk through and I was not using this cage which is a lot bigger.. mines was less enclosed

    Excellent review. Just what I needed since I am picking up my first Mini 2 today and two days ago I saw a guy accidently rth his Mini 2 into a tree and it broke a leg off. He signed up for Refresh with one hour to spare and got a new or refurb machine. I'll try not to do the same by paying more attention, but I'm hoping that with the PYG model and a landing thing at least some of the damage can be prevented for such a wonderful machine.
    Thanks again.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank You! I would recommend always landing yourself, I never ever use RTH to land, I've tested it a ton of times just for one of my videos, but I personally never use it. I prefer to land all my drones myself, and I land them how I take off, facing away from me. The cage is great, and superb for learning how to fly, but it's probably best to use it indoors, and outdoors just go to a big field and learn how to fly. You'll be fine, no sudden movements, no stick flicking and all will be good. Oh, and set that RTH every single time you're out.

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JimzAuto Yes the prop cage brings the original Mavic Mini to well over 250g.
      However it was only ever intended for indoor flying, so being over the 250g threshold is irrelevant, it only needs to be under 250g when flying outside to comply with all the rules and regs etc

      I would agree with that when it comes to the Mavic Mini, but the Mini 2 handles it a lot better outside, I've tried it quite a few times. • @AV84USA

      As you can hear, the motors work substantially harder with the guard on because of the additional weight. Outside you’d also be fighting wind catching all that extra surface area and not having the surplus power to resist.

    I use prop guards to practice indoors to keep my controller muscle memory sharp. Mine consists of 4 guards, one for each pair of props(4). I don't know which is better or worse. Yours work and mine work. Mine came with a separate landing gear snap on thing that also works well. Total price before tax on Amazon was $20US.
    I turned on that setting for extra weight. I didn't have any problem at all controlling the mini 2 with it on.
    At 2:29 you said that as we all know when you buy the mini 2 you don't get propellers. I know you meant propeller guards, but you know how people are. They believe everything they see and hear online. This could get DJI pissed at you.
    One thing is that in canada, where I am, if a drone weighs less that 250grams then you don't need a license of any kind. The prop guards obviously puts the weight well over the limit, which is ridiculous. You add something to make a drone safer and suddenly you need paperwork to fly it. Canada is a great country, even for flying drones. But they have to change this detail of the weight limit. It is OK at 250g but you should have a list of addons with the max allowed weight for each, plus a total allowed addon weight.
    Of course the problem is that with regulations, it could take a lifetime to make any slight change, no matter how brilliant.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are pretty cool, thing is using prop guards is good inside, in a church, around trees, in places I guess no one will care if it weighs over 250g. I wouldn't use these out in the open as there really isn't any need, inside in tight spots, sure, they'll help not screw up the walls. At the end of the day it's all about using your common sense out there, a lot of people lack that, hence drone laws tightening. Have fun Perry and be careful.

      @perrypelican9476 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipSkraba have you heard of anyone fined for a 250 gram drone that is overweight because of prop guards? Do the drone police have accurate scales with them, or do they have a lookup for drones and their weight? How pathetic would it be to be fined for a mini 2 that is 100 grams over for having an add-on that makes it safer. But that's canada. Nothing is done intelligently.
