The 50's and 60's were my growing up years and I remember table clothes, curtains, dresses, etc. done in this style. This takes me back. I love it. Thanks Harriet.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much this is lovely xx
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you..I love this style!
You are so welcome!
Love this one!!
So glad!
Loved this tutorial and painted along with you. I was gifted your book Painting Watercolor Botanicals in the US and followed the text for the carnation within but I liked the vintage style better. Your biggest strength in my opinion as an instructor is that you don’t allow the words to overpower the actual painting process thereby making it easier for me to focus on what you do rather than what you say. Best wishes in this New Year!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful ! Thank you
Thank you too!
Love the delicate wash behind the carnation - I've grown to really appreciate how beautiful yellow ochre is in water colour.
Thank you! Cheers! Yes yellow ochre is a very useful colour!
Once again I’m in awe of your brush control. Such a pleasure to watch you paint. And you are correct about the simple pale background , it adds so much and grounds the subject perfectly!I’ve been collecting vintage Wilendur and Simtex tablecloths which have lovely flower designs on them.
Oh thank you!
Thankyou Harriet,
I really enjoy watching you do your demonstrations.
I started watercolour painting flowers in January 2021 and just love the way you are developing the designs.
I have your book and the brushes you have recommended and i have learned so much.
Wishing you a happy New year.
You are so welcome
Love it! Don't know if I can paint it.....but love it!!!
You can do it!

So glad that you are painting flowers again. I know that you have to please everyone, but the flowers are my favorites! I'm going to try this one. I also LOVE your seasonal doorways and windows!
Thank you so much!
So pretty...I can almost smell them!! I love your videos. Such talent!! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!
I love this style! I hope you do a series of 50's style floral paintings. I have a bunch of old wallpaper borders that are similar to this... will have to pull them out. You are so talented Harriet!
Great idea!
I LOVE the vintage look, it’s so cute, can’t wait to try it😍. That’s fascinating that you did costume design, I love the 1940 -50’s women’s clothes… loved Trixie’s wardrobe in the early seasons of Call The Midwives💕
Yay! Thank you!
So lovely! I love the background! I try to always have fresh flowers in my house (especially in the dreary winter), and (pink) carnations are a great choice!! Inexpensive, and they last quite awhile!!
That's a great idea!
Lovely as always 💕
Thank you! 😊
So beautiful 🥰
Thank you! Cheers!
Love 💗 the background so perfect and spontaneous you always make watercolor look so easy !Love your easy going banter ….Happy New Year Harriet
Thanks so much 😊
I absolutely love this!! It’s so pretty and this style can be adapted so well to other paintings. Thank you for sharing Harriet! I bought some of your brushes. Love them!! Btw… where do I find your playlist? I’ve seen it before but can’t remember where. I have your first book and love it. I know you have done videos of some of those flowers as well. 👍
There is a tab along the top with the playlists
I LOVE this! Oh could you do peonies like this? They are my bane but I love them.
I’ll certainly be painting more things like this
Hello. Thank you for your work and videos. I particularly like this painting at the 10:22 mark. For me, too much detail takes something away from the art of the piece. What are your thoughts?
Thanks for sharing! I like to try painting flowers in all sorts of styles
Harriet I tried your method and watched carefully but when I did mine it left marks. Like wet marks I think you would call them. Any advice
Hi Chantal this will be from allowing the water to puddle on the page. Use a little less water and try to keep it moving to avoid puddles forming
