They want you to inspect your gears when you change the oil. Same as the transmission pans not having drain plugs. They want you to change the filter while you do the fluid.
Hayes Manual calls for 1.75qts in the front diff and 2.45qts in the rear. I bought 5qts to do both of mine and worked out perfect with a little to spare including some dropping.
Thanks for the video. I already changed the back diff the same way. Dealership wanted like $200 plus for rear diff, to just pump it out and add new. Oil change place wanted to $60(my oil) to pump out front and add new. Only difference, I used the permatex gear oil gasket maker(in the green tube), but had trouble finding it. Canadian Tire sold everything other kind, but Napa carries it. It's nice to do a better job, for a way less price.

Had to drive it on curb to let water out of the bed. It was raining. Nothing wrong with the truck other than the typical old dodge rear fender rot and it is a Northeast truck damn salt eats up the metal. It also has 203k but engine gives no fucks. It’ll hit over 300k possibly may go to 400k I know it. Take care of your vehicle and it’ll keep on going. He took good care of it and enjoyed it since he bought it brand new. Original owner is a good friend. He also garaged it.
They say you're also not supposed to use Limited Slip additive in the front diff. So make sure you use th GL-5 Non LS fluid, only the rear should use Mopar LSD fluid.

@@rudijones thank you! I looked at a few other pics and skipped thru a few videos. I prefer to do it your way. Take it off and super clean it, rather than drain and pump oil in. And this is for all oil required components. Thanks for posting video.
My front would leak very slowly maybe a drop on the drive way until I found out it used that gasket maker and I used a pre made gasket from auto zone now it’s completely dry no oil shine on the diff cover
No explanation or description of how to refill. Where's the plug? Did you drain from the top of the engine? Randomly pulls a hose down and plugs into a phantom hole..... Terrible.

i got a 95 ram 4x4 and couldnt find any vids for that year but generally this is close enough nice and thanks for the video

Front is a little bit harder if the front isn’t lifted but the rear is a piece of cake
Idk about yours but I have a 96 1500 and it’s a piece of cake to get to 30 minute job tops

Where is the fill plug? Passenger side, it looks like ?? I think its a smooth ‘domed’ rubber snap in plug that is part of the Cover

When removing the old permatex from the differencial, how do you prevent shavings from getting inside?
You can throw some rags into the housing to keep debris off then pull them out and wash down with brake cleaner before refill

Did you have to remove the rack and pinion to get to this? I have a 2003 4.7L, should it be as easy as you show here on that one as well you think? :>

nicole wiedig yup there’s a rubber fill plug on the cover. I’m holding the oil bottle just above that upside down with a rubber tube on it

Just curious.... why do you use the PT stuff and not a regular gasket?
As far as i know all the front and rear diffs are sealed with a permatex
I have the same gasket maker, it says to wait 24 hours before adding any fluids, just wondering if a guy could get away with maybe 2 or 3 hours.
levi v why not just buy a real gasket? They’re only like 10 bucks and you don’t change your oils until another maybe 40k miles

And it’s less of a mess because the pre made gasket will come out quicker you don’t need to remove any old gasket material

There's a hose leading from the diff to the engine bay. Can I use that to fill up the diff?
