Will USA still join that war? People living in Taiwan are literally Chinese, and around 95% are Han Chinese, which is even higher than that of Mainland Chinese, which is around 91%. I am from mainland China but I highly appreciate the democracy in Taiwan, and I respect Taiwan people's freedom and dignity. I hope they retain their democratic and constitutional system. However, denying they are ethnic Chinese offended our emotion. Even though, I cherish there is no war between mainland China and Taiwan, and I heartedly hope people in Taiwan keep in prosperity and live in complete autocracy. Regarding US' choice if there is really a war, I don't think US will risk its own people's lives to intervene an ethnically internal war of Chinese people, unless China said after Taiwan, they would take Australia or New Zealand, which is groundlessly to happen based on my understanding.

    Taiwan only became a limited democracy until after 1988. Before that it was an anti-communist dictatorship ruled over by the right-wing Chinese nationalist party. The current ruling party is liberal and said to be Taiwanese nationalist in opposition to the Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang). However despite their Taiwanese rhetoric, the Democratic Progressive Party has not declared independence and still maintains the Republic of China as build by the Chinese nationalists since 1911.

    • @KM-jf6bn
      @KM-jf6bn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The ruling party also maintains that the Republic of China has no need to declare independence as it predates the current mainland government and is therefore already independent. But let's be real, the people of Taiwan by and large don't actually believe in any serious claim to the mainland anyway.

      @@KM-jf6bn Stop lying to yourself. The concept of "independence" is based on sovereignty, not on government. Only China has sovereignty. Neither mainland and taiwan has sovereignty. The PRC government only currently has the power of representing China's sovereignty which was previously represented by ROC until 1971 in the United Nations. It means China's sovereignty has not changed, but the representitive has changed. You were kicked out of the UN in 1971. You should understand that PRC and ROC are in the concept of government, not sovereignty. Only China has sovereignty. PRC and ROC do not have sovereignty, but only represent the entire China's sovereignty currently and previously. Your so called independence is the entire China's independence which include both mainland and Taiwan together as a whole, when ROC still had power to represent the entire China. The taiwan island has never has its own sovereignty and no independence as well. BTW, we don't care people in Taiwan believe any cliam by mainland or not, just like the US did not care about the claim by the people in Confederate States in 1861. You want your independence, go somewhere else such as Tokyo or London to declare your indepencence on their land, but the Taiwan island belongs to China. We want our island back and we won't allow non Chinese people to declear independence on our land.

      There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is part of China’s territory and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This is a consensus of the international community and a commitment made by the US to China. The one-China principle is unshakable, China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot be violated and the red line of avoiding creating “two Chinas” and “one China, one DIEwan” must not be crossed.
      China has full confidence and capability and are fully prepared to firmly stem the “DIEwan independence” separatist activities, foil all external interference and resolutely uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity. I’d like to advise better listen to a well-known Chinese song with these lyrics: “For our friends, we have fine wine. For jackals or wolves, we welcome with shotguns.”

      Sovereignty comes from people's free expression of their universal natural right of self determination. Taiwan is a separate, independent sovereign country because the people of Taiwan say that Taiwan is a separate, independent sovereign country. As a result, an invasion by the PRC will be just that, an illegal, immoral invasion. It will not be a continuation of the long-expired civil war. Military support for Taiwan will be entirely justified.
      Furthermore, countries that do not respect the universal natural right of self determination lose their right to be included in the global world order. Of particular note, that means that China's access to international maritime trade can be revoked. That will be awful for the people of China, because without access to international maritime trade, China can't keep the lights on or its people fed.
      And with China in economic collapse and suffering mass famine, Taiwan will be able to stand on its own.

      Functionally, for all intents and purposes, Taiwan (the Republic of China) has operated as an independent state and country for over 70 years. They have their own military, their own government, their own taxation system, their own passports and they don't answer to the government in Beijing. Their government predates the one on the mainland and the current mainland government has never ruled the island of Taiwan. While most countries don't officially recognize Taiwan as an independent country, so that they can access mainland China's markets, many still operate unofficial offices that act as embassies and consulates with Taiwan. Furthermore, Taiwan has been holding free and fair democratic elections as a multi-party democracy for nearly 30 years now, and is even the first East Asian state to legalize same-sex marriage. After 70 years of separation, it seems that Taiwan has drifted away and developed enough of an identity and society where you could view it as a southern Chinese republic, but not specifically a part of China. The mainland government pressures any country or corporation it deals with to adopt their language regarding Taiwan, or be blocked out of any deals with the Chinese market.

      Iraq destroyed the status quo time and time again. Just looking from the 80's, Iraq (Saddam) invaded Iran and waged a horrifically bloody war for 8 years from 1980-88. Then they used WMDs against their own people (gassing the Kurds with VX, Sarin). Then in 1991 they invaded and took over Kuwait, and invaded a part of Saudi Arabia. The US and the coalition with us stopped them, executed a most technical and tactical defeat with only 4 days of ground war against the worlds 4th/5th largest army. It's important to remember how many experts in the west and east were claiming how badly the US was gonna fail, and it was gonna be a second Vietnam. They had the latest USSR export equipment, were using textbook USSR tactics, and were by far the most battle-experienced troops in the world at that point. But all the anti-west; anti-American naysayers were dead wrong.
      After that there was 10 years of low-level conflicts, expensive no-fly zones, and conflicts with the UN weapons inspectors trying to verify they actually dismantled their indeginous chemical weapons program etc, etc.
      2003 was done on faulty intelligence obtained from torture (but torture that is so far less than what any autocratic country does, there's no genuine comparison) and a desire and greed for secure access to its the lifeblood of civilization, oil, and was wrong given the justification. But only someone who is ignorant, ingenuine, or a supporter of a despot/dictator like Xi would pretend that Iraq was this innocent, rule of law abiding, democratic, moral country. They were anything but, they were the North Korea of the middle east, and butchered their neighbors, their own people, and ran a fearsome police state subjugating their own people to their ever present evil.

CCP should instead de-unify Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Manchuria (NE of China), Xinjiang and not try to shamelessly claim Taiwan as part of China. All these are independent countries which CCP shamelessly claim are part of China. Similarly, CCP try to shamelessly claim SCS with CCP imaginary historical 9-line. Never had there been such a shamelessly regime as CCP.

    I am all for nations (Taiwan) having an "Air defense ID Zone", as most nations should. I find it odd that a sizeable part of that zone is over a chunk of China's actual land along the coastline. I would think that would cause a lot more friction than necessary.

    • @ultimateswarm7868
      @ultimateswarm7868 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The range of an Air defense ID Zone is based on the hardware that is supplying it. The US has one as well. Taiwan being so close to China means that a quality radar system will almost certainly reach and go beyond the Chinese coastline. It’s not a big deal, what matters more is how it is used. The area to be more concerned about is the area that is about 23 km off the coast of Taiwan. Any closer than that is considered Taiwan’s exclusive airspace and they could shoot down a perceived threat if they so choose. In a lot of ways you could say that China is trying to both intimidate as well as to instigate a shot being fired at themselves while being outside of this zone. Such a shot would be an act of war by Taiwan against china and China would likely use it as a justification for attack or invasion. There is a reason such flights, while legal being outside Taiwan’s airspace, are considered a bully/intimidation tactic.

      To China, Taiwan is just a disobedient child. Although a Chinese father (in a righteous culture) had been known to kill his only son to uphold righteousness and integrity, there are stories of great restraints where the father gave scaled down versions of punishment to appease the wrath of an aggressor.
      US? It's the skeleton of an aggressor who can't feed its own citizens. In fact, China did make use of US in the fight for independence, crudely speaking.
      If Taiwan isn't foolish, it would know who is family. Taiwan should want face, and realized the way US has been playing a fool with it so many times. And then, learn from what Biden said when he vacated Afghanistan.
      (Who knows, Taiwan may even gang with China to fight a common enemy like they did to Japan).
      Be careful what you think. You need to understand Chinese culture and the Chinese mind. It is the same culture that creates the Sun Tzu's principle of War, Confucianism, and the esoteric Shaolin martial arts, etc
      Both Taiwan and China are majority Han Chinese, who shared the same 5000 years of history.

    The Happiest Sad Birthday
    Let me tell you a true story that sends an important message to all of us. Halleli, a 4-year-old girl from Jerusalem with special needs, wanted to celebrate her birthday with her friends from kindergarten. Her loving parents arranged for everything: the place, the food and sweets, a clown to entertain the kids, and various fun activities that all the children enjoy doing. All her friends from kindergarten had promised they would come, and Halleli couldn't wait to celebrate with them. But in the end, only one girl showed up. The candy, the clown, and the games just stood there, untouched and unwanted.
    The next day, heartbroken, the girl refused to go to kindergarten. Her parents were beside themselves with sorrow and worry for their child and didn't know how to comfort her. In his distress, Halleli's father posted on social media what had happened, and matters took a sharp turn for the better.
    A man from the neighborhood read the post and was overcome with emotion. "I have kids too," he thought. "What if she were my daughter?" He felt he had to do something to give that girl an experience that would wash away her sadness. He decided to throw her the birthday party of her life.
    He combed the neighborhood and told everyone about Halleli and that he was organizing a birthday party for her and asked everyone to come. A few days later, Halleli had her party. This time, hundreds of children and their parents showed up to make the little girl happy on her special day. Her parents were overjoyed and grateful beyond words to the kind stranger, and as for Halleli, her face beamed brighter than the sun.
    This story doesn't only tell us about human kindness. It is a warning sign. It demonstrates how heartless, perhaps even cruel, we can be if we are not organized and galvanized into positive action. It also proves the immense potential that lies in establishing mutual responsibility in society. When people who don't know each other help each other because this is the value they live by, there is no end to what such a society can achieve.
    The Jewish people became a nation when complete strangers found the words of their teacher, Abraham, compelling enough to implement. His teachings about kindness and mercy as the key to solving society's problems struck a chord in the hearts of his listeners and they joined his group. This is why mutual responsibility and "love your neighbor as yourself" are the tenets of Judaism - social laws that relate not to God but to our fellow person.
    Today, when alienation permeates every corner of human society, we desperately need mutual responsibility and care for others. These are the only qualities, the only values that can keep human society from collapsing altogether. Just as Abraham had found that the remedy to his homeland's social ills were care for others, all of us must now realize that the cure for heartlessness has not changed since ancient times. The only difference is that alienation has now spread throughout the world.
    Humanity must do today what the ancient Hebrews did - unite across divisions and establish love of others where today there is nothing but hatred. Perhaps such moving stories as the one about Halleli's birthday will help us realize that mutual responsibility is not a noble but unrealistic notion, but an imperative step we must take to ensure our survival as a functioning society.

      It's a fact that the civil war never ended. It's also a fact that Chiang Kai Shek stole all the gold from mainland china's banks before retreating to Formosa island.

      @@KevinTewksbury It stopped being a civil war when the two sides developed separate, independent national identities.
      If Taiwan returns the gold it took, China will acknowledge Taiwan's independence? I'm sure the Taiwanese would agree to that, since the value of that gold comes out to only about $5 billion in todays dollars, iirc. While we're discussing financial damages, will China be willing to pay for the cost of responding to its intrusions across the median line in recent years? And pay penalties for things like election interference and IP theft? Those sorts of costs undoubtedly dwarf the value of the gold the Taiwanese took.
