Slim's Abner is the "Millenium Falcon" of Travel Trailer's; a bit gritty, busted & customized, but it get's you to the Rockies, Desert & Hyperspace beyond !
OK! OK! Slim you have inspired me. Today I purchased an Aliner Ranger 10. I plan to start a huge trip in May. I live in Titusville FL and in May I’m going to Key West, stay a week and then travel to Seattle and back to Titusville. I’m an artist and I plan to travel and paint zig zagging across the country. I’m excited and a bit scared. I’ve always dreamt about doing this. Watching your TH-cam videos has answered a lot of my questions, before I run into problems. Wish me luck.
I am rewatching some of your winter travels to help me deal with the SW Florida heat/humidity. I can't believe it's been two years ago that you filmed this. Still entertaining. 👍thanks 🙏✌️🌎💞
So, fyi... I originally subscribed for the DIY ideas for Aliners, but I stayed because of the high production values of your videos and your laid-back demeanor, Slim! I will miss Abner but am looking forward to your new adventures. And, yes, I would enjoy the behind-the-scenes videos, so you have a Yes from me ...
Love your videos Slim. One of the major reasons is that you are a frugal camper and still have fun in your small RV. I think a good portion of your audience is of a like mind, frugal. Personally I couldn't afford a membership in your channel. I don't begrudge you an income and the occasional commercial, but any sort of membership channel is just beyond my means right now. Happy camping and safe travels.
I think that's a great idea. We took a couple week driving vacation living in the back of our truck in a topper. It was warm. But we had to pack everything up to go sightseeing. Then unpack for supper n breakfast . Then pack up again for the next day. Ugh. But we had fun. We are in our 60s and 70s. We have a travel trailer small.
I think what you’re already doing is perfect. That’s an amazing heater. I was impressed by that 900 lbs mini camper. Thanks for sharing. Fidel Espinoza from Marietta GA
Looking forward to seeing what your new rig will be, and I could not care less what it is! I don't watch your channel because of the model of your trailer or vehicle. Obviously, if I owned an Aliner that would be an added bonus, but I watch because I love the destinations, the beautiful photography, the music, your clever "work-around" fixes and projects, and your steadfast integrity. Merry Christmas, Slim! 🎄
You are very popular in the online Aliner community. Please stick with an Aliner or similar. That is one thing that makes your channel unique and not just another RV channel. It has become your identity. BTW I just installed a diesel heater in my Aliner and we are very happy with it. Now, can I have a badge for those suggestions? :)
Slim's great online reputation is not tied to a vehicle or a "look". It is his beautiful inner soul and integrity that we're attracted to. Look at the quality of what he produces, man!! Who cares if he's popular with the Aliner community if the company is falsely advertising about titanium and resting on their laurels. I would ditch them in a minute. Cute with me will only get you so far. Once integrity goes, the rest goes down with it. Slim has a responsibility to himself, and his viewers to call it as it is. And he has. He will be rewarded for that in one way or another. Just watch and see
As someone full time RVing Slim, your simple approach to enjoying life on the road reminds me I don't need more. I just need to enjoy what I have and to everyone dreaming of this, more important to get out there than to do so in a palace.
You need to find a sponsor, especially for your next camper. Your ideas like the stove you need to patent. Really love your video's and the stories you tell. Your a natural in nature.
I find educational value in your videos. A lot of people think that's value enough. You don't have to offer badges, stickers or "merch." Thank you for all the enjoyment you have given me this year. Have a blessed and fun holiday season. PS I would be interested in the background stories. I bet others would too.
Happy holidays Slim. Be careful with the trailers that are called super-lite, ultra-lite. They are light for a reason. I would call them flimsy. Knowing where you have been with your Abner, you might want to consider an off-road heavy-duty instead of an ultra-lite.
Yes, I agree. If you go from your driveway to a paved campground, no off roading, the "lite" trailers might be ok, unless you don't have potholes on your highways. Racking is a killer for joint integrity. The trailer industry has a dirty little marketing secret. If a family comes into a dealership to purchase a trailer, they want them to be able to leave the dealership with a trailer without having to purchase a more powerful vehicle with a tow package. Thus the "lite" trailer was born. A more powerful vehicle purchase will kill a sale quickly. Many young families own the smaller and less powerful SUV. Of course "we finance" is the American mantra.
Trailer weight is not the only factor to consider with regards to the towing vehicle capacity. Wind load can be considerable. With any fold down like the A-Liner, the wind load is negligible. But any trailer that exceed tow vehicle roof will be noticeable. I made that costly mistake myself. I had a pop-up trailer that I was pulling with a Honda Odyssey like a breeze. At some point we replaced it with a light-weight hybrid travel trailer having an inside height of 6.5ft and a width of 8ft. It was within the towing limit of the vehicle. But because of wind resistance, it became a nightmare, poor Ody was unable to go past 3rd gear. Mileage raised to 35L/100km. That summer, we were unable to go very far. During winter, I replaced the Ody with a used F150. Problem solved. Even though it was a 5.4L V8, it was doing better mileage (21L/100km) than the 3.5L V6 in the Ody. This is where we started doing long distance multiple weeks trips. My best advice, do a road test with it before buying to see for yourself. Not only around the corner, go on the highway, try to pass a semi, get passed by a semi...
Ditto... my neighbor got an ultra light to save gas... a guest of wind came up and slammed it right off the highway and took his car with it. Never got another one. There's always going to be trade offs... but the A liners have a low profile for traveling... and Hard Sides for off grid safety. Maybe more plusses than minuses there. I think you're a A-Liner kind of guy. ; ) A plus
I agree too. I contacted that company that makes the solar trailer he mentioned in the video. I was curious about them making something more custom. My customization questions revolved around them making a trailer that could function like a toy hauler. They responded by saying the interior of the trailer is actually part of the structural integrity of the design. Modifying this would make the trailer unsafe. So, what I took away from this is, it is a light weight trailer by design. That in itself is a good thing. However, if you are a tinkerer, a problem solver, or just get bored and need to modify now and then, those trailers from that company are not the way to go.
@Katie Rae 1. They're getting hours of free advertising. 2. They can afford it. 3. Maybe Slim will donate his old one to someone. He has said many times that he himself is on a budget. 4. Who chooses who "needs" it?
As certain actors get known for signature roles, Slim has become synonymous with Aliners, due in part to his penchant for design improvement on an already great overall design. Because of Slim, I have a 2015 Aliner Ranger 10 that fits me to a T. I note that it has a cove by the door to sweep out the floor. I know where that came from!
@Katie Rae I have noticed that lots of companies donate different items to UTubers , especially the ones that have a large following. its good advertising and also the bugs can be worked out according to the use it gets on the road. I believe it good company policy. Do you need? You can always check on CheapRV Living or Enigmatic Nomadic, they do give aways and help with van builds. Check them out.
Wow, Slim. Stunningly beautiful spot as always. Perfect for you to take the time you need with all those important decisions you mentioned: the A-liner or what else?, TH-cam monetizing changes on your channel, camping lifestyle! Re hiking up a mountain in the middle of winter and doing stuff I did when I was 20, well, that was fine then but this is now. I loved doing that stuff, but don't feel like I have to keep going back over old turf. Been there, done that...Progress is a law, and nostalgia for the good ol days can't hold you back...not that you're not grateful or anything, BUT....you get what I mean. Whatever you're led to do, if it comes from your Higher Power, you will be safe and glad you listened. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and all good in the new year. We all love you and will keep coming back for more 'cause we know you trust your heart.
I'll be watching your videos as long as you make them, no matter what. I think it would be super interesting if you went backpacking! I used to do that when I was younger and I loved it.
A Cargo Trailer Series would be real cool. I really enjoyed all the projects you have done to make your trailer better, and I suspect you like those kinds of projects too. I would really like to see what you came up with if you started with just an empty new cargo trailer.
Another enjoyable video Slim, thanks for sharing. Your wintertime videos are by far my favorite. I have to say I think your stove and what you have done to make it so useful is great. I really like watching you mess around with it. The underneath oven is awesome! I would miss the fire in your winter videos if any new trailer didn't have it. I also have no doubt that whatever you end up getting you will do some cool customizing of it so I really look forward to seeing how things go. Your creativity when it comes to your trailer and camping is to be commended. As far as the TH-cam thing and the extra stuff I completely agree with the "badge" thing, I know I don't need any "badges" ha. Personally, behind the scene little videos would be enjoyable I'm sure, but Slim, to be perfectly honest, I am much more comfortable with watching what you do now, liking, and helping to spread the word about your TH-cam channel with other like minded folks than paying for the behind the scenes extras. I also have no problem using any of your affiliate links you may provide as well as a way to support what you do. I know that may sound selfish on my part because I do want to support you and what you do. I currently subscribe to a dozen or so camping and living the camping life type of videos, but I am not in the position to pay for watching things on TH-cam. I do enjoy your videos as much as anyone's and plan to keep watching, following, and liking yours as long as you keep putting them out. I hope in some way that can help. Take care fella.
Thanks Brad, I appreciate your feedback. Yes, TH-cam videos should never be enjoyed by just a few privileged, but by ANYONE with at least a phone and a public WiFi signal. The membership thing was just something I was trying to understand myself. Wishing you all the Best in the New Year! SP
Gosh, Slim. Just got through your stove scenario portion and gotta say you, Abner and the stove are priceless. Comparing the fire to Northern Lights with some added fireworks is true poetry. Awesome, Slim. Also glad you got outta there with dropping temps, etc. Stay safe!! One door closes and another opens.
Another great video! Regarding memberships, what some TH-camrs offer is member only live stream Q & A's. Just a thought. Best wishes on your quest for a new camper and have a very merry Christmas.
When off grid, electricity is a premium. Depending upon the model, diesel heaters need 12v at up to 4 amps to run the diesel fuel mister, circulation fan and electronics. Easily powered with solar during the day. Wood stoves just need the wood.
The warmth and friendship a flame gives is unparalleled. I can take long times alone and apart from others, but when I get feeling isolated, a flame is good company. But options for easier is very appealing too. Good to hear about your exercising and adventures ahead. We all need to stay ACTIVE
Merry Christmas Slim! Love love your videos. I think I’m listening to some classy National Geographic doc of our beautiful wilderness. Thank you for taking us where some of us could not go!! Anxious to see your next trailer and your touches. I sold my chalet hard sided pop up. Too cold I did not have a slim pellet stove lol. Bought a geo pro. Love it. Again. Thank you!
Season's Greetings from a land down under. Thank you for your videos. We have a 1,000 kg caravan (trailer) with a 6'5" int ht & body length of 13'. We only use it for serviced sites (hookups?), yes we bought it so we didn't have to change our tow vehicle. We use13-14/100kms towing & about 10-11 normally. Our national road speed limit is 100kph & we try to travel at a leisurely 80kph. I've had no problems with hills or winds. It carries its weight low down. It works well within its design parameters and has Airconditioning, fridge, shower, W/C, etc.. When I want to travel on the backroads I use my motorcycle. It wouldn't last 2 minutes doing your work, horses for courses. IMO another Aliner would suit you unless you intend going to a bigger tow vehicle, just my 2 pennies worth.
A very Merry Christmas from a 79 year old widow that converted her 2012 minivan into a camper for one. (warmer weather only, though have camped with temps around 32 degrees at night with no problem). I probably camp about 7 weeks total in different parts of the East. Camping since '68, never camped yet in a private campground, love our National Forests! I enjoy your videos so much. Good luck with your search for a new camper!
Hey Slim will you be looking at a rig that is heavily insulated to start with? An arctic package might be helpful. I wish you luck with choosing a rig. Merry Christmas and thanks for a years worth of fun and adventures. Cheers!!!
I started following you for the Aliner content and, frankly, can't imagine Slim Potatohead without an Aliner. I bought mine based on what I saw from you. But, your common sense approach to life has made me a devoted follower, with or without an Aliner.. And Merry Christmas to you!
I love your ammo can stove. It is such a creative solution. And I love how you always experiment with ways to make Abner more homey and efficient. I’ll be very interested in seeing what your next trailer (or alternative) is.
Another great video Slim. Thank you! If you ever need access to some tools you might not have, let me know. I have a garage full of them and I’m just down the road in Strathmore. Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year 👍
Re: your Q about having a supporter group, I'd say your channel has two primary distinctions: minimalist, self-sufficient RV'ing, coupled with almost exclusively finding free, appealing destinations. Between these two areas of interest, an interest in the latter would seem to have the larger audience. We are a good example: we enjoy a high degree of self-sufficiency in an all-comforts, small trailer while preferring more excluded destinations. Being offered more info, skill building and research tips in this interest area would attract me to some kind of membership. (BTW that 12V trailer would IMHO not be very pleasing to you. 'Small' doesn't by itself equal 'adaptable').
Love your videos! Would like to see the interesting stories that make the videos a thing too! Thinking of camping in the north east US? Lots of free dispersed camping in the white mountains
@@SlimPotatohead You are the man (Aliner Man!) to make it more insulated! The new Aliners have a lot pluses and I'm sure you can improve on their minuses. In the future, please consider putting out a Slim Potatohead Aliner T-Shirt.
You are right slim....winter IS best especially with lots of snow!! The people in Arizona don't know what they are missing!! Love you best TH-camr!! Handsome slim...
Nice video! You are certainly VERY creative when it comes to things like the stove and fixing up the camper. Abner has served you well and you've taken great care of her/him. Hope you made it home safely! Thanks again for posting!
I guess there's no perfect trailer. Everything has pros and cons. And it may be interesting to see you take more adventures in different kind of trailer. But what was interesting to me in your videos was you trying to solve the cons. Merry Christmas.
Yes, I will continue to join you in your travels, you are may favourite North American TH-camr. I had occasionally wondered why you don't use a van but now I understand and it makes sense. Thank you for another excellent video.
I just know Slim that whether your in a new trailer, the old one or a cardboard box im gonna enjoy every minute of it, your abilities to entertain are astonishingly mesmerizing and the beautiful scenes of nature you capture along with you're very well versed words make this channel a cut above many ! Stay warm , stay safe and stay out and about ! by the way, when you said "badges" i heard badgers ! im British !
There are countless of other TH-camrs who have better and more expensive equipments.... But I enjoy listening to your easy going voice and friendly attitude
😂.... we don’t need no stinkin badges! Lol... when u were telling us about that, that was the first thought that popped in my head! Appreciate your candor and realistic attitude. 👍🏻
Exactly! Badges only appeal to shallow people who want to show off their donations. The opposite of Slim’s humility that allows his poetry and engineering spirit to shine.
Slim , your honesty and no filler (bs) approach to life on the road is refreshing now days. Thank you for sharing. Not sure what you could do that is worth more then what you already give us. Im fix"n to be on the road , for I have had a big change in life and now will become a nomad. Hope to cross paths with you on the trail. "Be safe and search on , my friend!"
I want to donate Slim.... TAKE MY MONEY!!!! lol. thanks for the content. Really gives my a goal when I'm about to retire in less than 2 years. Will be 41 years old too. :D
We like your humour and photography, we're not really that interested in the equipment....more the travel and scenery. However, we're just watching, it's to you what you enjoy filming. Happy Holidays Slim.
Merry Christmas and a Wonderful new adventuresome year to come. Keep up your wonderful videos. They take me to so many wonderful places I will never be able to see in person.
There are tons of TH-cam stars but only one Slim Potatohead. I hope to keep watching your adventures for a long time to come!

Another great video! Regarding memberships, what some TH-camrs offer is member only live stream Q & A's. Just a thought. Best wishes on your quest for a new camper and have a very merry Christmas.
Can always count on your videos to be very informative
Merry Christmas from across the pond Slim.
When off grid, electricity is a premium. Depending upon the model, diesel heaters need 12v at up to 4 amps to run the diesel fuel mister, circulation fan and electronics. Easily powered with solar during the day. Wood stoves just need the wood.
Don't need no stinking badges..........
You beat me to it!👍
One of Bogart's best films in my opinion, but rather long.
Jeff Frair LoL That’s what I was thinking.
Guess I'm a day late on the "badges" we don't need know stinking badges... lol
That’s a millennial thing for sure ....
Another great vid, stay warm and Merry Christmas
Thank you again Slim, right to the end,... it's always a treat. We will miss "Abner" ! Hope he finds a good home !!!
Happy Holidays!
Good cheer Slim! The answer is an emphatic YES, behind the scenes is a winner!
Slim....tell the Aliner folks what you think are the best things to add......let them bulid you a prototype....and you test it!
john m that would be a great idea, if that is what slim wants🌞
If anything it would make for some good TH-cam content for Slim and some great marketing for Aliner. It's a win-win!
Cheers!!!
Here's wishing you a Peaceful and Warm Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year...Cheers
Good one Slim - Merry Christmas from Colorado Springs
Added an Aliner to my campers after following you. Keep the Aliner it defines you!
Another great video Slim. Thank you! If you ever need access to some tools you might not have, let me know. I have a garage full of them and I’m just down the road in Strathmore. Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year 👍
Another Great video. Feels like the stove has become a popular co-star.
Merry Christmas, wherever you may be! I'm looking forward to seeing where your adventures lead you. And us!
Beautiful scenery
'Small' doesn't by itself equal 'adaptable').
one of the greatest old school youtubers left! stay strong slim! always know there is real thought and VALUE in your videos
Love your videos! Would like to see the interesting stories that make the videos a thing too!
Thinking of camping in the north east US? Lots of free dispersed camping in the white mountains
genuinley makes my day seeing these videos slim, whatever you put up i'll watch
You have the heart of a poet, Slim.
Merry Christmas and a Great New Year
We're with you buddy!
Its a Slim Potatohead 🥔 unique creation - watch his videos about it
I like your color coordinated mug and jacket.
Hi SLIM 😊GREAT VIDEO. ....HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 💖
Mmmm, pizza. Lol. You crack me up, Slim. Merry Christmas and Happy New Trailer!...er, year.
I love the Aliner, if you have to change it, why not for one newer. ?
Aluminum frame does not insulate well. SP
@@SlimPotatohead thats the con, but it has a lot of benefits. The fact that you can fold the roof, make you save a lot of fuel.
Happy Christmas from Northern Ireland
Yes, do a behind the scenes! Love your wood stove. We're not as handy as you, so good job, Slim .
Merry Christmas, Slim. Safe travels.
Slim, I've always appreciated your work. I'd be interested in seeing what goes on behind the scenes if you decide to do that.
Merry Christmas - ❤️ winter camping
Thanks for sharing some of your ideas. Love your videos. Keep it up.
STAY WARM THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. GET A OLD SMALL AIR STEAM WITH A LIFT KIT.
Great video! I love winter camping! That stove is amazing!!
Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas 🤶 a Seneca Camper would be Grand....Cheers!!!!!
Nice video! You are certainly VERY creative when it comes to things like the stove and fixing up the camper. Abner has served you well and you've taken great care of her/him. Hope you made it home safely! Thanks again for posting!
Merry Christmas, and thanks for all the work you do!
My choice: WeeRoll 6x12 all AL cargo trailer?
Yes! Get a WeeRoll!
Genius idea ... on the easy bake pizza oven drawer...
Merry Christmas Slim.
Have a lovely Christmas Slim . 😊
Merry Christmas🎄 and Happy New years
Merry Christmas! Your videos are such a great present! ❄️🎄🎁
There is a donate button on my Channel. Thanks! SP
@Katie Rae Cant tell me what to do. I love being a fanboy thank you very much ;)
HAPPY HOLIDAYS SLIM! wherever you may be.
Wishing you a blessed Christmas.
🙏🏻💜🤗🎅🏻🤶🎄🎁💙
Stay safe. Stay warm! Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Merry Christmas Slim..
Safe trails
Slim, you are one of the best TH-camr. Love your videos. And really appreciate your simplicity.
