At first I thought I would only watch a bit of this. But it was so full of facts I kept going. He has disputed so many economic myths we should all be more educated. The main reasons for inflation are rates and insurance charges!
all good information but after the fact. Craig, people like Craig and organisation like NZ Faibian should organise community hall meetings. This information should be on every voters mind prior to voting. Then maybe political parties would create better policies because the countries voters are better informed
Look I am a fan...but his views on a progressive tax system like Australia, causes of inflation, no discussion of wealth tax and cgt are odd. Too centre right like Ardern and Chippie
@@rogerparker4468 Ah ok I should read more about him Do you have any other economists that have some good ideas for nz? I know some progressive types here in melbourne have an affinity for a ‘transactional tax’ to reduce tax evasion. The ICIJ say $4.7 trillion ($4.7 million million or $4,700,000,000,000) will go missing over the next 10 years through tax evasion. Some say over $1 trillion per year gets dodged by the wealthy. Something’s gotta stop this criminal behaviour. I got audited and was found to owe $40 in tax and was fined another $800 for false declaration. I was paying 30% of profits to company tax at the time. Apple have paid 1% of profits in their time in Australia.
Good point at 1:19:00. So Nats are going to raise GST sometime very soon given the very deliberate policies, eg borrowing for tax cuts, and massive job cuts, resulting in decreased revenue? Like Key did? Of course they are.
I have a question. Campaign donations. I have no doubt donations to political parties from large real estate and development firms drives policy. Should we stop this practice and make election campaigns tax payer funded?
Come on Craig, how does Australia manage with a progressive income tax system? Very well. Just tax the wealthier end more. Or are you as stuck in your ways as Ardern and Chippie. What about CGT, notably absent in discussions? Why so concerned about inflationary impact of moving to a progressive tax system rather then the highly punitive at the lower end more like a flat tax one we have? Surely you realise corporate avarice contributes more to inflation, particularly recently, than does more disposable income for us 'bottom feeders'. Maybe you need to watch a couple of Robert Reich vids.
Terrible production. Camera should be on the projector screen, not on Craig. Pretty sure he wouldn't have minded sharing the limelight with his own graphics.
Highly infornative, excellent speech; great to see and hear. Thanks to NZ Fabian Society snd Craig💛
Really succinct and comprehensive presentation of all facts, this needs to be shared. Thanks so much for posting.
Great talk but love to hear a debate with Graig and Gary Stevenson's of Gary's economics opinion of wealth inequality and covid payments in NZ
I have watched Craig Renney before and he is brilliant and backups with data
Pretty cool insight from the economic left - great presentation
Brilliant needs to be shared far and wide

Maybe the best way around this issue is to provide a link to the slides in the description of the video.
