I checked many videos about increases, by far yours is the only one explaining it with its logic and whys , and the choice of thick yarn and needles made it so visible thanks❤
THANK YOU! I have begun to knit a sweater with no pattern, just trying to freehand, and I have been looking for raglan increases that I would like to use and I couldn’t find anything that I liked or that was very informative, but this was lovely. I got options and step by step instructions on different kinds of increases. Very helpful!
Thanks so much for these 4 increases, Ashley. When I do the YO increases, I do them a little differently bc when I’m on the next round and come to the YO, I knit through the back of the stitch instead of the front. That way, if you don’t want a lacy look, the holes are avoided. This is how I do my increases when knitting socks. Thanks, again! 😀
@Bobbie Burns - I do exactly the same way with the YO... but for whatever reason, I still get a little hole. I'm not sure if this is the nature of the stitch.
Hey, I am a beginner at knitting and finding something simple to start with. Thank you for these tutorials and free patterns. They are really amazing and easy to understand. Much appreciated. :D
I have recently learned to do raglan. This tutorial is very helpful. One hint I use- to make one right I say “right back” ( like I will be right back) to remember that you insert the needle from the back. Then I know the left is the opposite.
@@lesliebowles3649 Haha, I have a weird way of remembering it. BF (Boyfriend or back to front) is right, FB (friends with benefits or front back) is left or wrong.
I have a question, I am knitting your fall bluff sweater your showing here, but with a double mohair yarn on needle 9. With this material the raglan, with the M1L and the M1R doesn’t show so clear. Maybe mohair is not so suitable for this kind of raglan? By the way, I just finished the winter bluff with the more simple raglan on needle 5 with woolen yarn, and it worked out wonderful. What I like about your teaching is you challenge people to think for themselves. By measuring and trying, I could create a perfect fit. Hope the mohair one will also work out.
I just downloaded your free Fall Bluff raglan sweater, and purchased the Wildwood vest pattern. Thank you for your great instructions and thank you for using big needles and yarn!
Excellent video. Thank you so much. I chose the 3rd method simply because it looked easier than the other 3. Now I’m off to do some knitting. Thnx again!
Thank you so much!!! First for not using the "American" knitting method 😉 but mostly for doing this so easy and clear and showing all 4 methods. I have only done the 4th method, because I earned that doing a shawl. Beginner here. I am currently following a knitting pattern for a top-down knitted raglan sweater, and the pattern is not done professionally, it does not describe how to do a stitch, not even using an abbreviation. The pattern is clearly made for people who have knitted for many years and know how to do every method. ...which I don't! I have spent a few hours just on trying to get the "V" at the neck done right, and I could not get it to look right!!! This is clear and should be easy to follow, I have learned so much from this. THANKS!!!!!
Thank you so much for this great Video. It helps me a lot and gave me a lot of possibilities for creating my raglan Sweaters. As a beginner of this methode i‘m glad to have found your Video. Have a great time and many lovely greetings from Germany ❤
Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you. I am starting the Harvest Cardigan and this step was causing me confusion, I knew it looked wrong but I couldn't figure out why. New Follower. 🥳
Bonjour. Merci beaucoup pour vos explications. J’ai aussi une grande préférence pour le LLI + RLI. Le raglan est impeccable et surtout, il n’y a pas d trou. Je ne connaissais pas cette méthode. Bonne continuation
Thanks for making this great video. I made a cardigan using one method but didn’t like the look. This showed me other options and resulting looks. Perfect! Thanks 🙏
I had always been confused as to what m1 slant I needed. Your clear explanation of if it’s on the right of the marker it’s a m1r and if it’s to the left of the marker it’s a m1l. Was just the statement I needed to place it firmly in my brain. Outstanding! I came here via a search prompted by a vague pattern that just said m1. I know enough to know it makes a difference in how your sweater is going to look--beautiful or wonky. I wanted beautiful; hence the search. Now I can happily and confidently proceed. You’ve got a new subscriber!
The video saved me from quitting a sweater because instructions were not well explained about knitting YOs on both sides. Really don't like the YO on the sweater and going to do a knit FB increase. You make it easy to understand the process in your video!
Ashley THANK YOU ♥ for this free pattern I am going to make this sweater but I have to get my knitting gauge down and I am also a continental combination knitter I think the first raglan increase you show will be the one I will use when I knit the sweater.......I am a new knitter I am a natural crocheter. If you have any suggestions for me I would truly be thankful.
There is another one I would like to try where the increases are done on one side of the marker only to create a straight band across the shoulder part. I think I would have to increase in every round in order for it to work. I am not sure what to do when reaching the armhole area. I have seen it done but don’t remember what to do at that point. I love that look because it emphasizes the shoulder part. Love to hear what you think.

If you use a right lifted increase on the right and a left on the left, your raglan seam will look similar in size to your other stitches and it will allow you to adjust the number of stitches between the increases just like your other raglan increases.

Thank you so much! I’ve been doing your Raglan Sweater tutorial with the M1R/L, but have noticed gaps with each of my increase rows. Is this normal? If not, can I fix it?
Just make sure you’re working into the new stitch so that it’s twisted and not just a yarn over!
What needles do you use?
hi i am doing a pattern that states place marker, raglan st, place marker. Am i increasing?
Yes!
hi, i have a question and need some help chat if I drop my m1l and m1r for 2 rows how do I fix this?
Hey, i am a beginner at knitting and find your video. Such a helpful one , but i wonder how to increase raglen increases after a folded neckband top down sweater ? I learn how to do M1R & M1L .
But after doing the folded neck I can’t do the increases, some help plz 🙏
The same concept should apply! A folded neckline shouldn’t impact how you do the raglan increase!
@@AshleyLillisKnits I can’t find the legs you knit into or purling into
Wow, I have only ever seen that first increase as KFB. interesting
It’s written different ways sometimes!
If you use a right lifted increase on the right and a left on the left, your raglan seam will look similar in size to your other stitches and it will allow you to adjust the number of stitches between the increases just like your other raglan increases.
Can we use the first one K1F&B on your Fall Bluff sweater instead of the M1r+M1L? Will that still work? Thank you for making this video!
Absolutely! Can can swap out any of these 👍🏻☺️
@@AshleyLillisKnits OK! Thanks for your fast response!
M1R picked up bar leans right on needle. M1L bar leans left on needle. This is easier for me to remember than insert back or front.
The sweater I’m doing is asking for M1R, 3 raglan stitches, M1L . Does that mean I do an increase knit three times and then do the next increase?
You’ll knit the M1R, then simply knit 3 stitches, and then M1L…. You’ll increase 2 stitches with 3 regular knit stitches in between
