Well done! You have no idea how hard it is to find clear instructions. I am saving your video. You’re a lifesaver. And very nice job explaining the chest part, that is so helpful!
Nicely done Bronislava! These are the clearest directions I've encountered for Raglan sweaters online and in books. I love that you are teaching concepts, instead of just particular patterns.
Thank you. The calculations were difficult to figure out between the example you had started with and your personal calculations. I am knitting my second Raglan sweater and want a better fit, so this should be (fairly) easy to calculate out as I am using an Aran weight yarn, so 7 sts per inch, 6 sts per row. I had been trying to figure out how to calculate for my larger bust, and now I know how to!
😘OMG ... that was so perfect... all my life I have been fighting with RAGLAN ....I was not giving up....BUT you, Bronislava, have saved me in my old age....will be using your method a soon as I finish the current project.Thank you
You are a great teacher. I've watched quite a few videos but you were able to explain it in a way that's easily understandable and why each step is the way it is. I just hope I can apply this to my work now
Congratulations on a truly professional explanation! I'm a beginner at knitting and I want to learn this technique, which is truly fabulous, but I haven't yet found a lesson with such rigor! I'm going to save this video and apply it, hoping to be able to knit beautiful work! Thank you very much and all the best to you.
Knit a raglan sweater from the bottom up and when you get to the sleeves -where the sleeves meet the body to attach together- count the number of stitches you have left in the sleeves and front and back, then knit Raglan all the way to the neck , count again, the front, back and sleeve ends and that is how you start your top down. Thanks for this amazing video.
Garden Glory - again thank you very much for your input - 🌹🌹 - I knitted raglan sweaters from bottom up, however I had to sew the sides... beauty about knitting it top to bottom is that it gives us a nice outfit without the seams many people are aiming for - 💛🥂 cheers to knitting anyway we like
I JUST BECAME A FAN OF YOURS😻😻😻😻 I’ve been struggling for quite some time with crochet tops, then BOOM, this tutorial popped up! Thank you so so so much for such an amazing tutorial, down to every detail!
Thank you for this instruction. I am following your instruction to knit a doll sweater for my granddaughter. Afterwards my confidence will encourage me to knit a larger sweater. I am very thankful and excited. God bless.
i'm dead tired and i was sitting here thinking this was for crochet until the doll came up on screen. i was going to ask for a knit version! this is excellent, thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've been crocheting for a while but finally decided to try a sweater. I've ripped it out 6 separate times because all 6 of those patterns don't tell me how to measure to make sure I'm making the right size. Now I can just make my own pattern! Seventh time is the charm? :)
Thank you for the clear and helpful instructions. I have been searching for days. I knitted a top down raglan cardigan with 30% of the front stitches for the sleeves and I ended up with a horrible wide sleeve. I'm going to try with your suggestion.
Thank you very much. You have explained it very well. I would like to knit a front open sweater. In that case, please let me know if I need to cast on extra stitches for the Button band. Please guide me. Thank you very much.
Very professional tutorial and very clear explanations, thank you! you are a great teacher. I wander if you can do other tutorials for the yoke sweaters and set-in sleeve?
👏👏👏👏Wonderful tutorial. I like to ask you how to calculate or how to figure it out how many motifs go around the botom in this case? I counted 7 in the front so I guess there are another 7 in the back? I still struggling that part. How to calculate the number of motifs in a yoke for example. Thank you so much!!!
Depends how many stitches you will add along the raglan... it should be a multiple of the particular pattern you will be using... this video I diid a long time ago, so I don't remember (no time to check that out 😕) - but hope this info will help you 🌹🍀
A very nice and detailed explanation which helps me a lot. I am odd shaped so I am trying to make my own calculations and this helps a lot. However, I cannot find any instructions on how many stitches to add (or not to add) to the underarm when separating the sleeves from the body. A pattern will automatically give you a number, but when you are using your own wool with that gauge, how will I know how to calculate that amount? Any input from you will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Hi, is this video can be also applied if I am going to crochet a raglan sweater? I am interested in the mathematical part of how to calculate and how it can also be done when making a crochet sweater. I only know crocheting. Do you have any ideas or way for me to know and apply this technique so I can create/crochet a raglan sweater. Thank you in advance.
Thanks, nice explained. What is a problem that the back must be higher a couple inches than the neck. If not the front is under your chin, the back lower.
@@HandMadeRukodelky Thanks for the answer. Maby you can make a video for us about it, and if it gives more then one way to do it. That would be really interesting ❣️
You have given such a professional detailed explanation, very clear, and this is so helpful to me. You are a great teacher. Do you think you could do a tutorial on calculating a Yoke sweater top down. Thank you
Have u ever done a trumpet sleeve? Starting fitted at just below the elbow and fans out. I have a pre-made sweater with this and looks like they did it with raglan type increases m1L and R in 4 places but how many rows is hard to tell in this machine made sweater.
Hi, I found this article that may be helpful to you - fringeassociation.com/2013/03/08/how-to-improvise-a-top-down-sweater-part-1-casting-on-and-marking-raglans/
Great Q, Yoly - what I would do is: I'd cast on edge sts for V-neck (your choice how many you want) + sts for sleeve #1 + sts for back + sts for sleeve #2 + edge sts for V-neck on the other side. I would keep my 8 raglan increases in 4 places + increases for the V-neck on each side (total 6 places of increases = 10 increases). V neck I would increase every row, raglan places every other row - hope this helps 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Absolutely Catherine. However the cm/stitches (or cm/rows) ratio will be different from inches/stitches (or inches/rows) - however the math process will be same
@@HandMadeRukodelky Thank you for your quick response. This tutorial is very helpful. I am actually doing my math now and following your instructions. I now clearly understand how to customize raglan sweater. Do you also have a tutorial for the cardigan?
Hi Ginette - If your video doesn't generate automatic captions, it could be due to one or more of the following reasons: The captions aren't available yet due to processing complex audio in the video. Automatic captions don't support the language in the video. The video is too long. The video has poor sound quality or TH-cam doesn't recognize the speech. There’s a long period of silence at the beginning of the video. There are multiple speakers whose speech overlaps.
the only REAL and true way to learn to knit is trial and error and start learning to knit intuitively ...its basically 2 rectangles with rectangle sleeves...its very rudimentary.
Garden Glory - yes I agree that it can be about intuition - but it is also about math and geometry - and a lot of people have problems making it fit their bodies - figuring it out mathematically can be challenging even for me who loves math and solving problems.... thank you though for your input 🌹
This makes knitting math sooooo easy! Thank you.

Gosh, l have stepped into a different world of knitting....
How would calculate it if you want to have a v-neck ? Thanks
