Cytokines (part 1)

• The cells of the immune system secrete a variety of proteins whose function is to regulate the immune responses by communi¬cating among cells. These proteins are called cytokines.
• Cytokines are soluble, low molecular weight , protein mediators released by one cell to bind to a specific cytokine receptor expressed by the same cell or another cell nearby.
