  • The Idleback Chair is comfortable - but does it provide the same accuracy as shooting prone? We ask GB fullbore target shooter Martin Watkins to check it out.

I have owned an Idleback chair for some time. I find it very good for rabbit shooting in the summer when taller grass makes prone shooting difficult. I have tried it on the range for full-bore shooting at longer ranges, but find there is just too much flex in the gun support arm to be really stable. Used with a conventional tripod (one that can accommodate sitting height) and the up-down movement is eliminated. Indeed, I have abandoned the Idleback gun support arm in favour of a separate tripod for field shooting.I have, incidentally, experimented supplementing the Idleback gun cradle with a vertical support (an adjustable walking pole) to eliminate the up-down movement caused by the flex in the gun support arm. This was promising and, perhaps, something that Idleback might consider themselves?
