I love the Bengals’ helmets! Instead of having a logo on the helmet, Cincy decided to put tiger stripes on the helmet and I like that look much better.
Paul Brown was a smart businessman, he got an expansion team in the AFL when they were phasing in the merger with the NFL. He didn't buy the team to stay in the AFL forever.
Matt Steiger I wish they would just bring back their original jerseys, pants, and socks and make those their regular home and road uniforms. They can keep the modern helmets though.
+Chef Danger On at least on occasion they did. During the 1994 NFL diamond season during one weekend early in the season all 30 (at the time) teams wore throwback uniforms. Some teams like the 49ers wore their 1950s style during the remainder of the season. I think Cincinnati did it only once.
I would like for them to win regardless of what uniforms they're wearing, but I don't understand why so many people want them to go back to wearing a uniform they stole from another team.
Geez I liked the original Bengals uniforms for their simplicity and style. Looked almost the same as the Browns uniforms except for the Bengals spelled out on helmets.
Should've just stuck with the first tiger stripe unis of '81. Since then the combinations have gotten way too "busy", adding logos, side panel stripes, black pants. Ugh! You had a great, almost universally applauded, look and you keep trying to mess with it.
HI LT - Many thanks for the comment and you've got good taste! I have always wondered if we fall in love with jerseys/uniforms from a particular time in our life and no matter what, we see those jerseys/uniforms as the best? I realize there's no answer to this. All the best to the Bengals in the coming weeks. Thx Scott
A bit of info for you...The Browns are generally considered to have been founded in 1946 as part of the AAFC. After being fired by Browns owner Art Modell in January 1963, Paul Brown co-founded the Bengals in 1965. He was a team owner and coach of the Bengals from season 1 (1966) to 1975. When he died in 1991 at 82 years of age, his son Mike Brown inherited his father's interest in the team and in 2011 bought the shares from the estate of co-founder Austin Knowlton to become the majority owner of the Bengals. So to answer your question, Paul Brown co-founded the Bengals in 1965, (their first season was 1966), basically 20 years after the founding of the AAFC's Browns. Thanks - Scott
@@ScottSillcox The Dolphins' first season was 1966. The Bengals weren't added to the AFL until the 1968 season. They were the last franchise added to the AFL, and they won their fist Division title in 1970, only their 3rd year of existence.
Yes. How dare he take the Bengals to multiple playoffs after they hadn't made one since 1990? Thank God for Zack Taylor only winning two games all year. That's the Bengals I remember from childhood.
Hi Xontar02 - I'm not sure I'd go that far but I love the Paul Brown quote. I find it so interesting to see that the Brown family still own the Bengals but don't own the team named after their family. Tough loss to the Chiefs yesterday but truly a great game of football. THanks for commenting - Scott
@@ScottSillcox Ha, well Scott, maybe I'm just biased since I've been a Browns fan since 1969. But also, my personal preference is a more simple uniform. The more ornate and splashy they become, the less I like them.

The jerseys with the Bengal Tiger logo on the sleeve was their best ever
I wish the Bengals would wear throwbacks of the original uniform sometime, but they have yet to do so.

Call me nutty but I always liked the BENGALS scripted on the helmets over the tiger stripes.

They basically ripped off the Browns look, and now they have an original look. So you like the Browns uniforms essentially.
great series of videos

0:41 Cool to see the unused prototypes that Cincinnati/Paul Brown chose NOT to use.
BENGALS on the helmets from 1968-1980 I actually liked those
No mention the fact that the original uniforms looked just like the Cleveland Browns uniforms
Great point Robert - virtually identical (other than the helmet).
Best uniforms in the league ever
I love the enthusiasm - no question they are great uniforms! Thanks for the note. Scott
The Bengals uniforms aren't really that great to me but the helmets are definitely one of the best in the league
Early 80s are the best
80s and 90s jerseys were the best

paul brown owned 2 teams
Bossly Mc Boss I guess so. I didn’t know that either
cool
@WhoDey! I guess everyone else thought they were named after Jim Brown.
How many years after the founding of the Browns did Paul Brown found the Cinncinati Bengals

@@dantheman5745 Great stuff Dan - many thanks! An amazing accomplishment in just three years!
Marvin Lewis screwed them over for years

Personally , I think the Bengals' uniforms are among the worst looking in the NFL. I think Paul Brown had it right. Simple is better.
