I did not know that Dutch horse was captured in 1745. I remember that several garrisons were captured during the campaign after Fontenoy. Maybe Dutch horse was in one of the fortresses. Nice small battle with a lot of luck for the jacobite and cavalry attacking up hill. I'm excited to hear how large the French forces are. Artillery and numerous cavalry could make a difference in the war.

Yes the Jacobite cavalry had some very lucky dice rolls, and the early disorders on the Dutch horse left the best unit on the field out of the action at the crucial time. A nice short sharp game that was fun to play. (I couldn't find the historical unit ID for the Dutch cavalry that came over, although I found the regimental names for the foot units.)

@@Prestonpans1745 Research about the Dutch army in general is not easy. Thank you for your answer.

Really loving this series so far. I find my Whig tendencies making me rather tense at the moment however!
Also I was wondering if there’s any consequences of French/ British forces arriving. Does that upset the balance in Europe and have an effect or is the campaign purely limited to the effects in Britain?

So glad you're enjoy it - so are we! And yes, the British army's position feels a bit precarious at the moment, although Wade's decision to advance did create a flurry of uncertainty! So far the Jacobites have always managed to bring the bigger force to the field in the large skirmishes, but they've got little depth of reserve and would feel the bite of any defeat harder...
In terms of the European front, we have tried not to make our lives too complicated, but we did make the rolls to bring Cumberland's second wave over harder, to represent the increased French advantage in the Low Countries. The more British (and allied) forces that are brought back, the easier it will be for the French to release a large force to support the Jacobites if they wish. There are a series of triggers to activate French responses, but we aren't saying overtly what they are in case that unduly influences the votes for the Jacobite decisions!

@@Prestonpans1745 Thanks that’s a really comprehensive answer. The Jacobites are certainly pressing their advantage of manoeuvrability and it’ll be interesting to see if Wade is more effective than he was in the real thing.
If I can ask one other question do we have any idea what the Northumberland militia wore in this period and where they were stationed. It wasn’t until the Seven Years war that the modern militia system was implemented so I assume they still using 17th century legislation.

@Violetnight I don't think they were used for anything other than protecting Newcastle in case of a thrust that way. I wasn't able to discover much (although I haven't gone looking in detail), except an 1820s account referring to one company having red and pink cockades. I doubt they were issued any other uniform, and may have been gentleman volunteers rather than a formal militia (hence why there were more mounted than foot). Or they may have been blue-coated like the Yorkshire Hunters, Derby Blues etc.
