Fleishhacker Pool was a public saltwater swimming pool located near Sloat Boulevard and Great Highway. Here's a quick look into it's story, Then and Now.
I went there in the 60's with my parents a few times. I remember the big diving boards and the water was cold. I liked sitting in the bath house because it was warm. Afterwards we went to the zoo.
Minor correction. I believe that first photo wasn't the bath house on the west side of the pool. That was the "Mother's Building" located inside the Zoo. Beautiful murals inside.
The fleishacker salt water pool was 2 blocks from my house..its in the 'sunset ' district off of sloat blvd. At that time in 1975 the pool was intact. But in disrepair . The deep end of the pool was 45 ft deep. (Not 14 ft) There were 2 diving boards . The tall one was about 35 ft high. Which in fact proves just how deep it was. Nobody is gonna do a high dive in a 14 ft deep pool

I was born in 1952; lived on 41st Ave and learned to swim there
I never got to swim there but around 1980 me and a friend hopped a fence and got to see the abandoned pool.

My city has lost its charm I swam in that pool
Wow what nightmares are made of 😮
you have odd ideas of nightmares lady, what exactly is so terrifying here?
I ALMOST LOST MY LIFE THERE, ALL THE SALT WATER I SWALLOW😱 MY AUNT SAVED MY LIFE. NEVER WENT BACK.
skill issue
Back in the 2000's a bunch of homeless punk rockers squatted the building before it burned down. It was called 'New Camelot'
Too cold foggy miserable. Larsen pool indoor a few blocks away far nicer.
