Solo Winter Tent Camping in the Snow

- A solo trip to Nordhouse Dunes off the coast of Lake Michigan. Starting off at the Nurnberg Trailhead, I headed to the shore of Lake Michigan, spent a night in my tent in the snow and had a dehydrated reindeer meal. Then explore some more of the beach before heading back and checking Nordhouse Lake on the way.

@@RobbyHuang I like all AA videos. I put off watching the ambient sounds video because it was 'different', but I watched it recently, and I loved it. I felt like I was on the hike with you.
When you look at others and wish you could do the things they are doing, just remember there's someone like me who wish I can be doing the things YOU are doing . Thank you for always sharing your adventures :)

@@curiousnomadic xD. Touche. It's an inadequate turn of phrase ^^. I mainly said it as such, because I've thought about saying this on a different video and decided not to, simply because I didn't want to be disparaging towards other members of adventure archives, but I really enjoyed this one and wanted to share that thought.
@@TylerTried Hate to make you cringe but I think it was made popular by the Jersey Shore characters. I love Robby's stuff mostly because I watch his weekly vlog but like the other members of the adventure archives especially when they were in Japan. Remember that one? I am fascinated by Andrew's advanced knowledge of botany for example. If you want some interesting reading, read about Joseph Rock. Since Robby was reflecting on it I'd love to see these guys go to Tibet or hike the Great Wall. Some guys from my university MSU did that shortly after I graduated and it amazed me. Also my step grandfather had been to it in the 1950s on a steam ship voyage around the world.

Andrew is undoubtedly my second favorite of the cast and for the exact reason you stated. It's always fun to learn about plants that I would have previously not given any attention to.

Wise words Robbie! I’m celebrating you being out there in 20’ degree weather for us. All jokes aside I totally feel you about celebrating human achievements vs our own. It’s a great mental attitude we all need to start adopting to live happier and healthier lives.
Your love for video game music carries over into the music you write for the videos and helps to make them enjoyable. As a freshman in high school i can remember going to the CD stores and buying old blues albums. I remember the woman at the counter saying to me how surprised she was that a person at my age was buying such old albums of old blues songs. The kids my age were typically in there buying up the newest [c]rap albums. It was just music that spoke to me inside and was the reason why I learned to play the guitar.
You are already doing more than a lot of other people. You can't compare experiences only appreciate what you have accomplished. Keep moving! 😁

So I also wanted to let you know if you haven't seen Andre Bocelli's , The Journey, that just came out this weekend. I think you guys would love it. The beauty of the countryside of Italy. The Journey, and the quality of the music is just breathtaking not to mention the buildings that they do it in. Truly a work of art and really wonderful thank you to enjoy it.

I used to think I was a bad hiker for always being excited for the next break to eat or snack, glad I'm not the only one always ready to enjoy the food. Our first stop on the way home is always food 🤣 Love your vids!
I love that you guys go to places I've been , I went to Nordhouse Dunes for the first time last summer, my sweatheart took me there for my 65'th birthday, I had never been there before even though I have lived my entire live in West Michigan and have hiked the dunes from Saugatuck to Mackinac. I discovered you guy's because of the pandemic and you've made it a little easier to get through. Thanks.

Love watching you walk into the snow and enjoy in the time you're there. I'm a water person myself. I grew up at the beach but if it's got a lake or a stream or a Creek. I'm a happy camper. I love the music you use in your videos you just mentioned the kind of music that you like and though I don't know video game music very well I. Do know that the music for your videos really contributes to the quality of them and I really enjoy it. I've always been someone who enjoys the background music in movies and stuff and so I just find it really Sets off the beauty. Thank you so much

Hi Robby, I found it after listening to you again. Tinna/Terra from Final Fantasy 6. Someone wrote this Song is literally what hope sounds like. When all is lost. When I was a kid and sometime as an adult in these trying times it feels like all is lost sometimes. But this Song gives one hope that better days are coming. Thanks Robby for a Great Video.

Hey Robby you need to get yourself one of those double sided tarps. The one that have a silver side to them. Put that down first with the silver side up and then your tent. You will notice a difference on the body warmth reflected back to you. Plus it protects the bottom of your tent.

I’ve watch a many of your videos with you and the guys but I think this one is now one of my favorites. I love the out takes at the end and the story. This is definitely all Robby. He's not posting so much on his main channel but this makes up for it.
It's amazing how one's mind works when alone on the trail vs having trail mates along. We reflect on our past, how we were as children, our past relationships, marriages, having and raising kids. Oftentimes we wonder if we had tweaked or eliminated an event in our past, how would be at the present and where would we be. It's funny(?) how this present health climate has us reflecting on the past as well. Right now I'm wishing I was back in the Hawaiian Islands...Maui no ka oi, Maui is the best. Would I be lying in this hammock as it snows or would I rather be in a hammock locking out over the Pacific...hmmm. BTW great adventure Robby!

Great video Robby! I especially appreciated the parts with no music in background. Just raw sounds of nature, vind, russtle of snow, waves crashing on beach. You should have those parts more often with just natural sounds and quiet moments . And your narration ofcourse :)

I've never done a snow hike and it was a magical journey to follow along with you. What you said about music as a kid really resonated with me too. Aerith's theme from FF VII is maybe the most impactful song I've ever heard. Great credits song too!

Nice video Rob! The first Nordhouse (New Years?) video is what got me hooked on A.A.....I subscribed and became a Patreon member immediately. Good to see you going back and reminiscing. Especially at the lake at the end of your hike. I'm gonna try that hike in the spring.

The campsites off the Dunes Edge Trail (to the right at the first big fork), right before the water, are my favorite.
Nice video! Been years since I was at Nordhouse Dunes and it was summer when I backpacked there. He hiked in to the Lakeshore in the middle of the night and swam in the moonlight before going to sleep.
Robby I could totally see you owning a motorcycle and just going on a camping trip by yourself cross country. I went across America last year on my bike and it's the most freeing thing.
I live & grew up near here (less than an hour away) and Nordhouse is awesome.
The wife and I went out there one morning (pre-covid) and there was a HUGE party out there the night before. We saw so many people walking out at like 8am and they appeared to still be up from the night before. It seemed to be a rave as there was lots of evidence by the hundreds of glowsticks and rash that remained.
Still need to come down south to the Great Smokies and along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
