    there needs to be more passionate people who LOVE working on games instead of people who see games as a way to make money

      The passion and talent is there in AAA but it so often gets drowned out by the business and marketing side of things. That's why so many go indie.

      there are their is Kickstarters and indie devs, but AAA devs don't care for passion and prefer to keep games the same because people buy it look at Activision or EA they basically sell the same games Evey year with a different name and some changes.

    This is because big game companies are run by businessmen focusing on profit instead of quality, and the main demographic are 8 year olds with consoles. Dont even get me started on dlc/micropay.

    • @shawnjavery
      @shawnjavery 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Armesis P that is part of the reason, but there is also the fact that with video games there was a greater obligation to innovate as better technology became available. The sonic series is a good example of this, as well as the jrpg genre as a whole. This is an industry that is extremely dynamic and therefore it would be hard to keep up with the changing times.

      I feel all games should utilize microtransactions only to offer players greater non advantage things not necessarily cosmetics only but if they get a gun it should be too powerful compared to a gun in its class even if its a higher level gun.

      Iamyouonlydifferent not really. A lot of 10 year olds have access to their parents bank accounts, and are more likely to spend their allowance/holiday money because they havent learned how to be responsible with cash yet.

    • @johnhanifin8467
      @johnhanifin8467 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iamyouonlydifferent maybe, but who is more likely to spend more per capita of the two demographics? Especially when your content is rushed and sub par. I would bet younger kids.

    • @johnhanifin8467
      @johnhanifin8467 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are missing my point. 30 year olds have way more income to dispose of. But because of age, they are usually smarter at what they spend that money on. If I as an adult have 300 bucks to spend, and spend 20 on a game I like, that is the effective amount of profit for that gaming company. If I'm 16 and I have 60 bucks, and I spend 50 on that same game, I may have less income, but the company has more effective profits. Moreover as an adult, having played way more games and experienced what makes good games good, I have a better understanding of content worth buying. If you can't as a company produce worthwhile content, wouldn't it be smarter to maximize profits by pumping out content to try and capture the area of the market that is more susceptible to gimmicks, regardless of how good that content is?

    • @Geraduss
      @Geraduss 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Piracy is a symptom not the disease. If games had fair pricing more people would buy them, as Steam sales show. If I as a potential buyer think that a particular game is not worth my money yet I still want to try it out, then I'll pirate it.

  • @Saber0003
    @Saber0003 7 ปีที่แล้ว +232

    Reasons games are worse:
    1. Yearly releases.
    2. Apologist fans that let bad games slide because it was their favorite franchise.
    3. The ability to add DLC/Patches encourages the release of unfinished games.
    4. Huge companies like EA who put profit before quality.
    5. Lack of innovation. Developers are afraid to experiment.
    6. Lack of variety. Everything is an FPS or TPS now.
    7. Online Multiplayer is often used as an excuse to ignore the Single Player or Couch Co-Op experience.
    8. Loot boxes.
    9. Amazing games that go unnoticed because of some AAA title that came out.
    10. Shorter attention span of gamers.
    The list could go on and on.

      Fallout 4 was a lot of players first experience in Fallout and to them its amazing, but kf they player the other games they'll see its shit.
      Skyrim fans are the worst, the other games are way better and Bethesda and Valve are making shitty games (Fallout 76 and Artifact) DESPITE FANS PROTESTING EVERY SECOND.

      True that. Nowadays you can go onto Steam and find a no-name company who made a game just as good as the new COD game. Big companies are too busy making crappy DLC's for 2 weeks after launch so they can get as much money as possible, and hiring as few people as possible to program the new game, so they can get as much money as possible. The programmers probably are told to just take the old game and retexture it, and add a few new entities, and rename it, that way the large company saves as much money as possible. I can't say whether or not having all these DLCs and expansion packs is a bad marketing plan or not, because every big company is still doing it, so it must be working.

    • @southeparkfreak
      @southeparkfreak 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Wylie28 Than why can R* pull it off to make a $60 game full of content, years long free DLC support and still make $800m in profits? It's because they build a reputation for delivering quality products, which gets rewarded by the community with a boost in sales.
      Cutting corners and selling shitty day 1 DLC's isn't the only way to make money, it's just the lazy way.

    • @billete37
      @billete37 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wylie28 i doubt that is true, games use digital media, online marketing both save tons in money. The issue is bad design goals, making games milkable rather than just a good game which could sell very well and eventually be milked, but they want all that upfront, over paying for resources and giving the coders less time to refine.

      Pretty Good Gaming yeah. i found you recently and i almost immediately subbed.
      seems like you are thinking in the right direction and say the things like they are, without trying to sugarcoat it. which i appreciate very much.
      as for the issue of the video, i think we are in the middle of a transition, maybe a specific type of crisis. all the things that became a standard in the past few years, like the capability to be always online of almost all gamers, the newly found things like microtransaction and dlcs and patches and all of those. I just think companies are still figuring out how much they can push those without us complaining. in a way they are experimenting.
      and of course some of them are just being lazy.

    • @GroinMischief
      @GroinMischief 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We see a transition of trends every time a generation of gamers grow more independent in their preferences, rather than piggybacking a trend. This results in fragmentation of playerbases and then some industry giant comes along and puts their focus on one of those fragmentations and then that becomes a trend.
      I'm not that knowledgeable about every genre, but as far as competitive multiplayer FPS goes - military shooters have definitely had their run. I think we're reverting back to the more unrealistic and whacky types of FPS such as Overwatch and maybe in a long shot; Quake Champions. I think eventually 1v1 might also become trendy once again, as it's been a pretty dormant market - free for anyone's taking for a while. By comparison, team games are very tough competition.

      red asylum in Greek it is "Lateinos" meaning the"Latin man" and the sum of "Lateinis" is 666, the name of the beast (from the sea, multitude of nations, ie world empire)
      Our world = "Lateinos" world = 666 world.
      Where the dead body (Lateinos world) lies, vultures will gather.
      Base of science is in "Latin"... Law, medicine, all scientific naming, the building block of society "Latin".
      Thus the genre of games will be massively towards war, killing, shooting... because that is what the world is and what chooks, cattles & slaves of the world are feed, renforced, hypnotised & programmed to like & do...
      Latin man
      Mystery language of choice on $US 1 note? Latin... Mason the builders, Mason builders of the world.
      Of Mystery Babylon the Great, the purple clothed harlot that sits on the scarlet Beast (image of the beast, that is UN, United Nation)

      Actually, games are only expensive because that's what the publishers and corporations says so.
      They don't need to prove how expensive it is, and if it's viable to make similar quality games without said level of expense.
      One aspect of games gaining expenses is likely years ago when 'copyright' over digital goods were in full front debate, where artists try to convey that they need to defend their works and sue the hell out of everyone who bats an eye at them.

      The good thing about steam is that they don't use a numbered review system. It's a joke when you look at negative reviews by users on metacritic. TONS of people gave Overwatch a 0 just because it didn't have a single player campaign. The game was never going to have a campaign and blizzard was very open about that. Not a valid review basically.
      Then again. Users tend to hand out 10/10 reviews easier than critics do, and then complain that critics are the ones being paid off.

    • @chipspunkable
      @chipspunkable 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't look at reviews full stop. I buy the game and if I don't like it, it gets refunded. Critics don't know what I want only I do. I love the new mass effect for example but critics were only giving it a 6/7.

    Casualization, linearity and scripted sequences are what's killing modern games. Hand holding, glowing objects, xray vision, bad AI, invisible walls and unplayable events have got to GO. Devs underestimate the average consumer's skill and neutering a game hurts everyone in the long run.

      @malucart 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Let me clear this up: linearity is NOT a problem AT ALL. How do you think Ghost Trick can be the best game ever if it's a completely linear adventure game? I mean, it's a puzzle game, so maybe it's not _that_ linear (although the puzzles themselves are linear), but then how can Ace Attorney be the second best ever if it's just a 100% linear visual novel? No AI, no hand-holding, no gameplay at all, just dialogue, investigations, testimony, and absolutely mind-blowing storytelling.

      How do you complain about a game you haven't bought? The problem is an honest review has come with a $60 price tag. In my personal opinion, in this day and age, I think every single game should have a demo. Remember demos? I don't understand why they've completely disappeared. I don't understand why every single game doesn't have a playable demo nowadays, other then they can't trick people into buying their terrible games.

    Look at Uncharted, Witcher 3 and The Last of Us.
    They got the storytelling to a top notch level and as an added bonus, they look fantastic.
    Other games mostly focus on just looking fantastic with no real content.

      I think stories has become an issue in games lately, rather than a benefit. You want a story? Watch a movie. They should rather focus on making their game fun to play without getting stale. Things like. Different game modes, mini-games, couch co-op, unlockables, level/character/weapon/stage progression. Things like that.

    • @The_Cat_Addict

      I don't feel like replaying story heavy games. Once i know the story, there's no reason to play it again. Unless there's more to find that you might have missed the first time, which isn't part of the story. I keep going back to Rocket League again and again, couse it's fun to play.
      A good story does help to make the game much more interresting but if that's the main focus of the entire game, then it falls flat as a game. Then rather make it a movie instead. The ones i'm reffering to are The Last of Us, Uncharted 4 and looks like God of War is going down that road too.

    The fact that a game is patched after release doesn't matter at all. For f2p games, it makes perfect sense, balance patches are ok in any game as long as it's only stat twiking.
    But a AAA game full fucking price better be polished as fuck. Missing game modes are not forgivable, glitches are not forgivable. Fuck the video game industry right now, everyone go to MOBAs and other f2p games with honest features. PALADINS, HEROES OF THE STORM, LOL, DOTA, SMITE, TF2, ROBOCRAFT, PLANETSIDE 2, PATH OF EXILE, SHIT TON OF OTHER FREE AND HONEST GAMES. Games are a part of this world. But Money has become our God. The most games are not created for us anymore, the people, instead to get our money. You know what iam talking about, when the old MW2 days and Halo Reach days are gone and you moved on to PC, to enjoy a better variety of games. At the end you have over 1000hours playtime on freaking CS go, with so much money wasted on Skins, because it was fun and you dont know what else to play. You know what iam talking about when hypetrains end in big refunds. Honestly i lost every Hype.. I have over 100games on my steam library, but i only play 3 of them. Every time i wanna play i must think about what game to play, not because they are all so good, instead because they do all frustrate on their own way. I try not supporting this shitty industry anymore, good times are over.. In the end you play a strategy game from 2002 with a mod from a modding team that creats better games than some shitty game Studios.

    The industry is focusing on quantity and not quality, plus micro-transactions and loot boxes.
    EA is the worst, they set the trend for micro-transactions as well as business practices, look at how they fucked over Respawn.
    They intentionally set Titanfall 2 in between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty just to soften sales and soften up Respawn for a buyout and then implement all these bonuses per Metacritic scores etc.
    Titanfall 2 was the best game and I still play it, also Rainbow Six Siege I still play since I got it in release in 2015.
    Activison and EA are the prime evils in the industry that are setting the bastard standard of micro-transactions and Loot-Boxes.
    All this started with the rise of Mobile Gaming and its practices which have carried over to mainstream gaming.
    Look at how EA forced implemented it on Mass Effect 3 with its forced online and play an app to improve your percentage of readiness in the last part.

    The "bad games coin" has two sides. The ignorant fanboys who pre-order anything, even if they don't even know what the game's gonna be. And the big bad companies like EA Ubisoft and Activision, that take the opportunity to milk the shit out of their customers. If people would stop falling for these cheap moneygrab tricks, games would eventually get finished and better. But then there are still studios like CD Projekt Red that actually care for the gamers, treat them with respect and take their time to make awesome masterpieces of games.

    I'll tell you why games are flopping more so now then ever.
    It's because we are being ripped off and conned by games companies and developers. I'll never pay for an EA game again or another so called BIG BUDGET like BATMAN etc.
    Why?
    Arkham knight cost me £50 PLUS £30 for DLC
    Campaign done in 15 hours. DLC was some crap 2 hour add on and some shit suits. So let's call it 25 hours MAX £85
    The Witcher 3
    £40 200 hours gameplay on death march.
    16 weeks FREE DLC upon release where they gave away side quests , weapons and little treats in the game. Then the DLC was £30 I think for two add ons. First last about 15 hours , the second about 40 hours to complete everything.
    So you can clearly see The Witcher gave me hundreds of hours gameplay for £35 less than Batman which looked pretty but was completed over fri/sat night. I have not touched the game since. Why would I ?
    Gamers are waking up to this bullcrap and waiting for the developers they know actually supply what they promise. I won't purchase another COD or BF game, in fact I wouldn't even want them for free.
    This is 2017 all planned out.....
    Horizon Zero Dawn
    Shadow of war
    The Witcher 3 (as I feel like going back to do the lot again)
    Nioh
    Automata
    God of war
    Red dead 2
    Maybe a couple of others. I'll not spend full wack on any game unless it's by teams like CD PROJEKT RED etc cos I know what I'm getting for my money.
    Good luck gamers and don't be fooled into buying these DAY1 £89 rip offs like MASS EFFECT. I'm telling you right now it will be fucked for the first 6/8 months. But it at Xmas for £20 sale when it have been patched and actually work.

      Also it’s the little things CDPR did. You see the short video they did after Witcher 3? In the house ? Like a big thanks to the fans? Try look it up if you ain’t seen it. It’s really great

    I also think that we now expect a lot more from games than we did ten years ago. For instance Witcher 3 came out and now everything in a similar genre will be compared to it and we will expect more from every other game. It raised the bar.

    Steam should add a feature by the help of which if a game is not felt completed or found glitched up by community will take it off steam and give a message to all developers to fix their shit up and this would also scare other devs resulting no more incomplete titles. ;-)

    I think the problem is that publishers have too much control. It's the same thing that has happened to the blockbuster film industry which has produced very expensive vapid experienced that favour style over substance. Imagine if book publishers, or fine art publishers did the same thing - it would destroy the industry, thankfully these two mediums are comparatively cheap to produce. It's the curse of mixing art with money. The music industry used to be just as bad but over the last 15 years the cost of producing and marketing music has diminished to such an extent that passion projects and independent artists are able to enjoy success along side the major record labels.
    We are starting to see a similar thing happen to gaming where using pre-made assets and games engines has made it easier for indy devs to create and distribute their work. However producing a good game, even a simple one will always be an extremely labour intensive endeavour and has resulted in the indy scene awash with substandard titles aimed at making money. In other words it's a lot less feasible to create a game as a passion project than an album, book or artwork.
    I think that there is still hope if studios like CD Project Red are able to continue calling the shots when it come to their own games and not have publishers meddle in a Ubisoft / Destiny kinda way. Unfortunately even Rockstar seem to be slowly leaning towards online content and micro transactions in favour of a solid single player experience. I think as consumers we need to celebrate games as art, games made in the right environment and games made with passion.

    The mid-late 90s, 2000s and 2010/2011 were all part of the golden age of gaming. 2012+ feels like these developers want to try to make things realistic without actually trying to put effort in the actual gameplay.
    I see it as this:
    90s > 00s > 80s > 10s

And also with bullshit pre order bonus, DLCs and microtransactions. Gamers don't trust the in the game companies anymore! Most gamers these days prefer to play or buy old games. No wonder most games today are crap when people think Uncharted 4 is the perfect game. Example of a good modern game would be Dishonored 1 and 2. Not The Witcher 3 because it lacks in the gameplay department, it's more about quantity than quality.

      Was mainly taking about "AAA" games. Low budget indie games can be surprisingly good, partially because you don't expect much from them, well I don't. I don't agree with the open world games or overly cinematic "interactive movie" games though. Never really liked them, were cool when they first started to appear. Not saying they're bad. I'm just looking for games that I like. Oh and I only have PC and ps4. I will take a closer look at the games you mentioned..
      I have Subnautica, but got bored of the endless exploration and crafting like .. I like good gameplay, level design. A good story with interesting characters won't hurt either. Only good thing about Subnautica is the atmosphere.

    The annoying thing about modern video games, is that they're always focusing on incredible HD graphics, and TOO polished music. The games becomes flat, characterless, they all look the same, too polished, realistic, etc. I hate so much newer video games, they don't make me feel anything when I'm playing them. I have to agree that the push to rush games out the door, that clearly are unfinished needs to stop. Several of the franchises covering most of the genres feel compelled to rush games out on an annual basis but honestly is it needed? Delivering unfinished, unpolished, and untested games, which are just a mess, then the various devs should not be surprised at the negative feedback they get. The after-launch dlc stuff should stop as well, take the time to do the game right, and include the dlc in the game at launch. Stop the assembly line push and take the time to produce quality.

    Simply put. Normies, the masses, the everyday people have infected gaming. It used to be interesting with games appealing to certain groups or tastes, a dedicated base of people coming back time and again. This of course all changed in the mid to late 00s in my view. Gaming reached a big turning point. They began shelling out massive budgets and the developers reached a conclusion. If they made their games more accessible the masses would adopt them and the developers would cash in A LOT more. So the games began to all sort of devolve into this pool of the same shit but different title/story or just being fun and easy. See Skyrim or Resident evil. I played Oblivion before Skyrim and just felt disappointed. The quests were too easy and the gameplay wasn't all that unique from it's predecessor. On top of being completely unoriginal Skyrim devolved into a mod fest which is all it's worth because Thomas the tank engine makes for a much more interesting dragon than the dragons themselves. Resident evil devolved into a action shooter with boring linear gameplay and various quick time events. The problem isn't even that the games are terrible but that they're just mediocre. They choose to be good in every last little thing instead of picking a specific group to appeal too. They dare to be the same rather then striking out for that dedicated fan-base that will come back again and again. It happened to Hollywood and now it happened to games. Seriously and no joke the only games that are worth playing in my book are Disgaea and indie titles like binding of isaac and organ trail. They dare to be creative yet seek to just tickle our craving for a good game that lasts us more than two seconds. They have tons of challenges that would take a long time to complete but feel so satisfying when done. This is why I game. It's for challenge and for something interesting that gets me to think or remember certain things in different orders. I think soon it might be time to trade in the controller for some good books and a new hobby like hunting or fishing. I've definitely slid off the gaming train the past couple of years and just haven't sparked with many newer games. I'm pretty young too. I just can't find that excitement in anything made after 2009 that isn't a JRPG, disgaea or counter strike. Just so many terrible and boring games.

And 'everybody' is not a customer that you care about and not even a customer that can tell a good game from crap. Companies that were making games for gamers went bankrupt and can't exist in todays situation when they need to make a really good game for gamers at the same time catering to all them children, housewives and sales managers.

Vice city in my opinion is hands down the best one they've ever made. Gta 3 is better than 5. Even the little vice city and liberty city stories games were better than 5. 5s story was short and has zero replay value unless you want a trophy/achievement. DLC. Developers are releasing incomplete games. Even the games that have been heavily praised are being plagued by DLC. The developers of Final Fantasy 15 said they're not keen on release a part 2 to the story. They'd rather touch up on pre-existing resources by shipping DLC's, because they know their customers will buy them! DLC is a shameless cash grab that plagues the quality of games we used to expect.
    This is why I'm heavily faithful to Nintendo. They're not afraid to delve into their creativity. Sure they'll offer us DLC for games we love, but it doesn't stop them from being on a constant quest for giving us amazingly creative and unique games yearly. Thank you Nintendo!

    The gaming industry has become commercialized. Number one priority is making money and quality be damned. Endless COD clones, money sucking DLC. It really doesn't surprise me that people identify 2001 as peak game with all the crap that's around now.
    There's only a handful of games out in the past decade that I'd consider classics. The years from N64/ps1/xbox-GC/ps2/x360 spawned countless and moved gaming forwards a huge amount.
    The silver lining is that even if the gaming industry is 90% rubbish there are still gems around and especially if you go back in time. Also, steam sales are cheap as chips.

    The gaming world feels kinda ruined lately. The problem with modern gaming is that there is lack of fludity in games, everything may look beautiful, indeed but lacks the creativity, immersion, feeling and originality. For the most part tasks feel like a chore and are often pretty meaningless. Then there is griding, oh my god how much hate greedy grinding and for the most part the whole free2play concept, the microtransactions... the collectibles, the achievements, the DLCs, the season passes, the preorders. The only achievements I like are actually called Challenges in Uplay, at least you get points that you can spend in unlocking exclusive content to be playable in game or getting a discount on your next purchase. Preorders... A game gets shown on E3 and they are already pushing preorders down your throat! ... Let's also talk about steam direct for example, it is way worse than greenlight, we have a shitstorm of shitty games all of the sudden, where before greenlight required games to be greenlit by steam users, now it's all direct, there is no user voting involved, and so we have the said shitstorm... Online competitive multiplayer games are being ruined by trolls and cheaters, hackers and glitchers ... Open world games will make you spend a whole lot of your life doing the same things over and over, and even if they seemed exciting at first, they quickly get boring, tiring and they feel like a chore. VR titles gets also pushed down our throats on steam, although the vast majority dos not play in VR or desires to. Alas steam still makes you lose your precious time by promoting those games to you, even if you told your settings specificly not to do so. Lastly, today we even have people who play games just for getting cards and achievements, which is pathetic, imo. I most likely forgot to mention still a ton of things but yes, sadly such is the world of modern gaming today.

    Agree with you all the way. I refuse to purchase any game that has preorder bonus, exclusive content, season passes or micro transactions. Over the last 25 years have purchased approx 40-50 new games per year, but that now is only 2-3 games per year due to the industry grabbing more money all the time and not giving you a finished game but wanting more money out of you for the game you purchased in full. Modern games all seem to play the same way and even though they look great, they are barely fun after a short time. Games are becoming pay to win, and soon main parts of a game will be locked out and won’t even be able to complete them unless you pay for extra content to allow you to finish the game. I plead with all gamers to stop purchasing dlc, season passes, and micro transactions as you are justifying what is happening here, and it will only get worse as has been seen over the last 10 years. This is the new normal and it should not be. One price for one game with all content included so there are no advantages. DLC should be made because the game sold well and the developers want to support the game before a sequel. Extras in a game should be unlocked by playing the game and using skill and effort.

    Games are not getting worse, people simply buy the wrong games, demanding always the same stuff (military shooter and open world gangsta bullshit) and they are getting too fast excited by marketing campaigns, instead of waiting one or two weeks after release with the purchase of the game. So you will always have your Call of Duty, Battlefield, Ubisoft generic open world here and Activision and EA dlc politics there.
    And then there are games like Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V, Batman Arkham Knight, Nioh, Dark Souls 3, Nier Automata, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Hitman, Horizon, and so on.

    Old video, but I'm going to leave my comment anyway. I see people give CD Projekt Red a pass because the put out good games, but don't forget the bullshit they pulled with the graphical downgrade at the release of the Witcher 3. This industry is so damn tainted, not even the "Good Guys" are exempt from trying to scam consumers out of their money. They're all equally greedy and corporate. There's no saving it, aside from getting into the development side of things yourself and making games as a hobby purely for your own enjoyment.

      Mr Owns The 6th gen was pretty much THE goldrn age of gaming because the creativity from the late 90's met with the refinement of new technology to create some of the best games ever.
      (Seriously like 70% of the best games ever came out on the 6th gen)
      But yeah I don't see why he said that PC died. Maybe he was talking about the specific type of games that were used to be PC exclusive and had features that were exclusive to PC, but I dunno

      Last of Us was released few years ago now when games were still okay, nowadays alot of AAA games are the same with the Ranking system, weapon attachments, customization. Indie games are equally guilty as a bulk of Indie games are survival games based on crafting stuff to survive a open world.
      This industry is going downhill fast not just because of unfinished games, but also because they are becoming the same thing.

    I have just started playing Gran Turismo 3 and the nostalgia was a kind relief considering how my PS4 experience was a dull, over rated tedium that never got better and so I just sold it the other day, to try out the Xbox one. (So far, I feel underwhelmed by that as well) - I thought that gaming was always a passion for everyone involved in the industry but now it’s clear to see its nothing more than a means to bleed people of their hard earned cash and the massive downhill descent, which is clearly visible to those who pay attention, doesn’t seem to be able to stop from plummeting further and further into the depths of despair and ruin. I am glad that I can pick up my PlayStation 2 controller and revisit those beloved and simple times where games were enjoyable but with the way that modern gaming is today I don’t really see the point in the game industry even existing anymore other then to deceive people into forking out bucket loads of their money to fuel future ventures by these huge companies only to be continuously disappointed by the results. It’s an ‘uroboros’ of bullshit that is surely the end of days for all those who enjoyed being able to spend a little bit of money for some entertainment that they could enjoy anytime of the day and without leaving their home but soon enough it will be an expensive luxury which won’t be worth your time unless you have a stupid amount of money to burn and a serious amount of time to waste.

    The reason why games are getting horrible is because of DLC, Microtransactions and incomplete, glitchy games.
    This is the story:
    EA, Activision and Ubisoft flew in the dark gaming skies. EA saw three heroes appear. Ice Dragon, Fire Demon, Thunder Bird. Ice Dragon blasted beams of ice at EA. EA Created a Sword made out of money. Ice Dragon ran away and he created several clones of ice. Ice Dragon's clones came at EA. They all prepare to punch EA. EA got punched twice and EA created Vines of money. Fire Demon Stomped and he created a earthquake of magma, Ubisoft dodged the earthquake but he got hit by EA's Vines of money. Thunderbird blasted beams of electricity. Activision created a sword made out of money. Activision got hit by the electricity beams,

    Games have definitely gotten worse. But this has nothing to do with Day-one-patches or buggy versions. It's because today's generation of gamers is heavily populated by morons not able to hold a controller straight. And these gamers led to the trend to change games from being story-supported challenges to overcome with skill and passion to interactive bedtime stories with playthrough-guarantee. No wonder every other today's game feel just like the last one.

    The single most important thing about story is the tone difference between Mythic and Ironic as wrote by Northrop Frye in Anatomy of Criticism (The Theory of Modes). Which one is your game? Does the game shift from one to the other, or is it just thematic with a low mimetic tone?

    Biggest problem for me is no spilt screen in games! As a kid I used to love having mates over. getting help and having fun together. Now most games need the Internet and two consoles/plus to do this, multi player now just means play online.
