- Starting at George Street, I do another weekend walk around the city centre to see how people are spending their time. The character of the city has changed since the last "What Do People Do All Day": fewer tourists, most residents back, and autumnal weather. Perhaps the last is why the pubs are so full. To give a good mix of cityscapes, I follow a variety of streets, beginning with George Street. I then walk around the Gloucester Green market, up St. John's Street, into the secluded little street of Beaumont Buildings, back up St. John's Street to Wellington Square, around the square's little park and too much brutalist architecture, and then to Number 35, "The Pendulum", where I tell how this house got its name.
I then continue up Little Clarendon Street, past St. Giles Church, along Blackhall Road to see the dinosaur, and to the Natural History Museum where I look at some carving. After that, I go down South Parks Road and part of Hollywell Street, through by the Turf Tavern, past the Bridge of Sighs and the Bodleian, out of Catte Street and across the High to St. Edward's Street, past the Bear, behind the Town Hall and across St. Aldate's to the St. Aldate's Tavern, along Pembroke Street past the Story Museum and M&S, across St. Ebbe's Street and through the Westgate Shopping Centre, across Paradise Street and past the Jolly Farmers, past St. Thomas Street and Quaking Bridge, and along Fisher Row and the Castle Mill Stream. This brings me to Park End Street, where I finish by going along Worcester Street and George Street Mews, and then back to the east end of George Street. It has not improved.
