    Hope you enjoy guys! 😃We've got Alice exploring the streets of Cambridge in the next couple of weeks. And if you can't wait that long, here's her full playlist 👉th-cam.com/play/PLPYbVPqV7je9aFrONncy7mtqFJA2E3LcP.html

      Are you guys actually aware that there's anything outside of the general London area? It'd be nice to see this kind of segment for other places such as exeter, york, manchester, liverpool. You know. Other places in the UK.

      Thank you we do. Why you cutting off Allice legs? Alice has best legs among British Historians.Alice is known as English "Tina Turner " she even danced in the last sequence.. But Taliban censorship cut her legs out of the sequence.😢😢😢😮

    I visited Oxford only once in about 1988. Aside from the history and architecture, I remember two things. Having lunch at The Bear (oldest pub in Oxford), and while wandering the streets with some of my classmates, bumping into an older gentleman who must have thought we Canadian students were an interesting lost looking bunch. We figured he was pulling our leg about who he was, but he offered us a private tour of the Oxford Town Hall. We followed him to humour him, and then we were surprised when the police officer at a side entrance let us all in. I think he realized we didn't believe him, so at one point he gestured at one of the paintings and asked if the guy looked familiar. Sure enough he was a former Lord Mayor. I think it might have been Lord Mayor Fred Ingram or possibly Lord Mayor William Fagg. A really nice guy.

    • @gilheuss7830
      @gilheuss7830 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I am going to guess William Fagg. Sounds like him. There are several other sites that weren't mentioned but she did a good Job. If you want to dive deeper into the "City of Dreaming Spires." I recommend the book by Jan Morris by that title.

    • @SevCaswell
      @SevCaswell ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The problem with teaching history, especially in the UK, is that the periods and knowledge is decided by the curriculum, and that doesn't change, so you end up teaching the same things over and over and over, and it's really quite hard to remain enthusiastic about something when it's the 10th time you've taught it. However a tv history presenter can pick and choose what subjects to present and never has to repeat anything they didn't find interesting.

    • @n00b_n00b_

      @@SevCaswell yep, it's the same in the Netherlands unfortunately.

    I used travel to compete at the Oxford IV debate tournament every year back from 2009-2012. Not only was it some of the most memorable experiences of my life, but being surrounded by all of that history and amongst so many intelligent people was indescribable. It feels so cool doing everything simply because you’re in Oxford. The tournament was hosted at the Oxford Union, so that added another level to the whole experience. We would just hang out in the Old library, competing in the small rooms upstairs or at the top of a small stairwell, or even in the main chamber when the opportunity arose. Seeing those final debate rounds- a packed student chamber with everyone cheering, pounding their hands, drinking, and just having an overall good time- will forever be something I cherish. What an honor to compete at such a historical and renowned place. Oh- and shout out to The Eagle and Child! 🤯

    C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were not just writing buddies but also rather competitive! C.S. Lewis proposed they tried their hand at science fiction, to see who wrote the best story. C. S. Lewis wrote the "Cosmic Trilogy" - 'Out of the Silent Planet', 'Perelandra', and 'That Hideous Strength''. (Worth a read if you have the time). Tolkien never completed his side of the bargain, presumably being too busy constructing the monumental tasl of creating the stories from Middle Earth!

    At 2m 35secs Alice is walking up Beaumont Street with Worcester College behind her, the white van just obscuring the main entrance gate. The office window where my father worked as Head Porter in the 1960's is just above the van bonnet.
