- There’s a lot more to the Outer Banks of North Carolina than a few salty miles of Cape Hatteras real estate, OBX propaganda and pirate lore. Young local filmmaker and proud ‘townie’ Logan Marshall hunted high and low - and steep and deep - to unearth a fresh perspective on a historically enchanting place.

Former OBX local here. Best tip is to not have any surf racks or stickers on your vehicle when you park to surf somewhere. Surf racks will make every goober from Va. Beach pull over and paddle out right where you are.
Sheesh man, I see an old Toyota, Subaru outback, or a Jeep and I'm parking to go and check. Guilty as charged. But I'll give you 100-200 yards and your own peaks to yourself

The great thing about the OBX is that you can move up or down the beach 200 yards and get very similar waves all to yourself.

and not to worry because in a few minutes you will be down the beach 200 yards, or more! lol
Yes this is the beautiful thing compared to reef breaks here in hawaii where you compete with so many people to get a wave.

The memories of great surf. Frisco woods camping on the sound. Redfish on camp fire. Did I say great waves!
The mid Atlantic east coasts gift from God. When it's waist high every where else the banks is overhead and cranking. Nicest folks and best fishing on the coast.
I miss OBX so much. Moved to Okinawa after joining the military. It’s nice and the waves are decent but the reef breaks aren’t ideal. I miss summers that I would drive up and down the OBX looking for my next place to surf then shore fishing for anything that would bite.
Days of my youth spent camping at OBX. Nobody anywhere and waves everywhere! ❤️👍🏼where you learn to paddle out in big waves with No Channel !
NOOO CHANNelllll I remember the first time I surfed a a point moving from NC I didn't know what was going on
Used to be a classic point set-up in NC, got destroyed by people who were actually trying to save it, but they had to save public and private property too and this was back in the 80s. Surf science has come a long way since then, probably could have saved it now. Still a sand bottom one that rarely turns on with sharks galore and a current that kills a few swimmers every year though.
Two different places^. There is also a novelty point for toe tubes, might get waist high on an overhead swell. I wish I’d know about it during peak of sandy swell, might have been the one day it was head high in the last decade.

Been my go to escape from my hometown on the eastern shore of Virginia for 30 years. Always look fwd to my yearly visit to obx

Yeah we always avoided the wolf pack of cars. If it’s firing spread out. That’s why pea island is my favorite place cactus and dunes you gotta be committed checking there
