Just left your part of the country yesterday. Surfed all week. Taught my 9 year old daughter to surf 4 days ago beside Surf City Pier. She got it on the first day. Rode my 9 foot longboard. How I wish I could post pictures here of her first clean run.
Thank you for this video! I grew up in NJ, surfing Long Beach Island or where ever we road tripped to looking and searching for that perfect spot.. Every chance we had we would road trip over night to Cape Hatteras NC, one of the most magical special places on this planet! A watermans paradise.. My best memories of growing up surfing live in my mind of that place.. We could always find a secluded break 4 wheeling down the beach.. Surfing with dolphins in the crystal blue water, fishing for food with great success.. Its been 30 years ive lived in hawaii, coming here to chase the dream of those perfect waves... Lots of those here if you dont mind battling with 200 guys at every spot! The environment these folks talk about is what makes the magic, the perfect wave, the space to breath and become one with the energy.. The ocean is a church and surfing is more a religous practice than a sport if your doing it right😇.. You can hear all of these folks .ake reference to the spiritual effect surfing has had on there lives!! I miss you Crolina folks, you should know your blessed to be where you are surrounded and completely emersed in nature.. I pray progress hasnt paved over that blessed place.. My home in NJ is gone, Hawaii is quickly being taken over by the wealthy and greedy.. Aloha used to mean something, its an endangered practice now...Anyway I used to shape boards in my cellar in Nj and bring them to the WRV factory in NC to be glassed and get tips from Bill Fuller, Mr. Frierson, Lynn Shell and more.. Great group of guys.. I am getting older now 53, and still those beaches call to me in my dreams! I long to return to what i once knew there but fear it too has been submerged and over run by the $$.. Thanks for the memories to all who participated in producing this video. If only i could taste the wAter, The salt from tears will have to suffice, well done, really hit home.. God Bless
Much love from the OBX bro 🤙🏻 Tourism has grown a lot here but this place still has its magic. Been living in the area my entire life and can’t ever see myself leaving to go somewhere else.
I have watched this video many times from the western NC mountains where I live. I came down to Carolina Beach today due to the surf report, and an insatiable need for a salt water fix, and who do I meet out in the lineup?...Dimitri, on a stand-up bodyboard! Super cool guy, and an inspiring figure in the experimental vehicle surf community. So stoked to meet, and surf with you Dimitri, I hope you and your wife have many more epic days of surfing together. Many thanks, Joel
Great video with some awesome interviews/people! Bumped in to this while searching Carolina Beach surf videos. Brought back memories of 14 years old, growing up on Spartanburg Ave, Carolina Beach when my best friend use to tap on my bedroom window at 6am for us to go surfing. Descriptions by each person, I could visually see in my mind!! I'm 53 and still surf, and still have the same feelings as I did at 14! All the best to everyone and thanks for sharing!
Beautiful video.. I lived in Wilmington for 10 years on Whiskey Creek. Used to take my little boat over to Masonboro all the time. This video brought back so many memories.. The boat rides in 35* winter weather, Wind chills in the 20's.. Brrrrr.. But then you walk over those dunes and see those little waves peeling with no one else on the island.. Good stuff!
Well done John Burkett and Riptide Productions!!! An amazing film and one that touches this 46yr olds surfing heart. Just love the soul of surfing shining through in regular folk and what it means to one's life... Thank you for sharing this film with us all!!!! An Aussie
So sick! I didn't realize there was this awesome surf culture out there! I'm from California and just visited my brother out there in Concord. I'm going to have to bring my boards the next time I'm out that way. Awesome production!!! Cheers
This video remind me of why I'd rather live here in OBX NC than in CA. Yea we might have to put on a full wetsuit with booties, gloves and hoods Dec-April but in July Aug and Sept we get to surf in boardshorts where as in SoCal they are still wearing full suits. Pray for Surf.
I am coming to visit my daughter there mid July from Southern CA and am planning on surfing of course. Just nervous about the sharks and jellyfish I have heard about there. I bought the Sharkbanz for a deterrent, but am still going to be nervous about Bull Sharks. Am I nervous for nothing?😬
@@surfsiren1026don’t worry man. Look at the statistics. It’s not like new Smyrna . Jellyfish in the other hand lol. It’s not even close to a majority of the time. Maybe 1/50 sessions. But man when the jelly’s are bad it can be really bad. Had times where there was so much chopped up jelly’s in the water my entire body and face was on fire. Usually after a big storm but most of the time nothing to worry about. I’ve been surfing in NC for 10 years seen maybe 3 sharks.
Unbelievably beautiful and extremely gracefully-edited movie! Truly captured the essence of the stoke of surfing for me. Thanks a lot for the Upload! Aloha
@@redtideproductions1136 I do thank you! We don't get any surf in southern Germany, so movies like that take me back to the ocean for a short period of time! Feels great :)
Spent 2 and a half years in Onslow County stationed at Camp Lejeune and loved the Carolina coast. Rode waves at Onslow Beach (Lejeune), The Poles (Topsail Island), Surf City, Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Outer Banks, and Wrightsville occasionally. Thanks for the video my friend, good stuff indeed! 👍 👍
This video provides an amazing insight into a surf community making the most of the available natural resources. The stoke is infectious. Thank you all for sharing your stories. Gary from the surf blessed East coast of Australia
Phenomenal look at these surfers lives. Being a Lake Michigan surfer, I truly understand that feeling of catching some fun waves at home. Having stumbled upon this video and surfing Carolina Beach, I understand how much fun that area is. Great job!
A fine little film. Great selection of music to fit the mood. If I still surfed and lived close to the beach these are the kind of people I would want to know and surf with. Soul surfing!
What an awesome video! Thank you so much - this is such an inspiration - you guys are all so lovely and inspiring - and even though my surfing journey is just beginning, my love of the ocean is timeless. What a wonderful home you all have there - bless you all and love to you all :)
Loved this and the great community that's been built around surfing there. We have a similar family feel here in Texas, and while we are wave-starved way more often than ya'll, we're still just as stoked as ever to surf. Thanks for taking the time to make such a great film. Really enjoyed it.
Great vid!!!!! I feel us east coasters are the true chargers!!! No matter if its surfing or snowboarding. The East Coast makes us harder, more determined!!!! Glad i found this!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!!!

4 years later and this video is still amazing! Wish I got into surfing when I was a teen. Lived on Topsail Island and never really took advantage surfing. Now living in San Diego and surfing 3-4 days a week. Best saying ever "I'm not a shortboarder or a longboarder, I'm a surfer".
D Sonye I didn’t get into surfing until my late thirties and now I live in Indiana so not all bad;) I miss it and go when I can but so happy it was in my life in any capacity. Agreed! I love long and short boards, depends on my mood.
Being a local resident this is a fantastic documentary. I have lived in Wilmington for 45 of my 49 years and have been going to both Carolina Beach & Wrightsville Beach since I was 16 but never really got into surfing. Tried it many many years ago but didn’t have the passion for it. I have a 10 year old daughter that loves boogie boarding and I have just bought Morey board and started riding waves with her and absolutely loving it. For me, it’s not about the size of the wave but more so the actual ride. Absolutely great film
One of the most beautiful reportage I have seen recently. If one day I will travet to North Carolina I would love to meet these people! So many things in common

Hi, I related to each of these people on this video. I wanted to go surfing with all of them and i wanted to buy a surfboard of both the guys that made them. I live in Australia so its a bit hard but thats how i felt. Great people and keep surfing. magic.
I love how you say the surf sucks there. I've scored every time I've been there. It sucks here in California too. Matter of fact it's sucked here on the central coast for weeks now. Great video!
I was mainly talking about the wave quality there. It gets crowded over there and I've seen some pretty good squaubbles too. But I love it over there. I'd move if I could get my wife to go.
Frank De Mascio yeah, Santa Cruz isn't fun with all that attitude in the water. I'd rather surf lesser quality waves with fewer crowds or in a place with a chill attitude than paddle battle with all the intermediate surfers in S Cruz pretending to be pro surfers in a competition heat.
Incredible film only been surfing for about 3 years but really captures what the entire mood of it is, but what was the blonde gitls name? ive lived in north carolina calabash right near carolina beach and couldnr understand at all what she said. great video all aroung
One of the nicest surf vids. Footage and interviews are great. It's just a real nice echo of words you'll get from so many areas round the globe. Folk in NC are much like my home break. I gotta see if more films are done by this lot. "Surfings a source, it'll change your life".
loved this documentary you should do one about northern vancouver island surf scene same vibe we have to travel to get our waves and hike in and some of the easier access beach breaks are like this they only break sometimes but when they are good they are amazing
I have to laugh every time I watch this, because I score great waves every time I get to surf NC. Everyone there thinks California is really good and puts their surf down, but I have a dozen friends that have moved there and never returned.
I’m a South African living in Taiwan for the past 24yrs. Started surfing again, a few years back. It’s hard surfing with people who don’t understand the etiquette or the real purpose of finding peace with Mother Nature... This film truly makes me proud to be an old school surfer because everyone in the film talks the way I think and live my life. I once was told that I should “find your wave.” Watching this film not only inspires me and reminds me to remain old school, but also shows me “my wave” Definitely gonna try Southeastern NC Surfing on my next vacation. @@redtideproductions1136 the cold hard reality of being out of the water for 12 or more years struck home this morning when I attempted to paddle out through 2-3foot waves getting rolled, caught in a rip whilst paddling a new 9ft longboard. I kept rolling off the damn board realising that my gut was getting in the way my balance was shot and fitness non existent...I was somewhat disheartened to experience the reality of my demise as a once proud and agile surfer from the south West of Oz...this will be a long recovery, getting back into shape...at age 52 now, i miss the surf stoke that only Mother Nature can provide, I severed my connection to her and I wish to reconnect.
@@earlehart2123 I love that your getting back on the board man!! I was having some back issues and felt discouraged maybe similar to what you felt. I just think it's fantastic to get out and move and enjoy nature no matter where you are on injury or out of shape. In the moment-it's the best.

@@so.calmotoadventurerides3135 Guess I'll ask both of you the same question, how has it been surfing wise compared to SD? Thinking of moving there myself.
@@so.calmotoadventurerides3135 How about consistency in comparison to socal? Do you get a few swells a month or is it few times a year? I normally don't go out unless it's at least chest high so sometimes I won't surf for a month at a time here, I'm sure I could get used to surfing a few times a month in waist high surf. How do you like living there?
They were spot on when it came to the psyche we get when it pumps here. We spend all year scrounging for anything, making the most out of any break, and choppy storm days for those perfect Nor'easters and Hurricane swells.
I can say after surfing CB... And wb... For the last 20 years that we on the East Coast are totally more stoked than those on the west being because it's only by not having a good wave do you truly appreciate one...
bojyles eefbarzelay-clemsnide.bandcamp.com/ Eef is a musician I that I saw perform a small acoustic performance. I fell in love with his tunes and contracted him to write the most of the music for this film. He killed it!
Luiz Claudio da Silva Caiado it’s called Masonboro island. I would just park on the south side of Wrightsville Beach and go as far south as I could on the beach. Then paddle across it’s only like 1/4 mile paddle (time it with the tide currents coming out of the sound) and the waves are always a bit bigger!
Cool video, some sick little waves. Not sure about the weird slo-mo shots of a 14yr old girl, running into the water in a bikini, funny how all the older ladies were wearing t-shirts too...
The only reason people up there ask if there are waves is because they are completely ignorant. Not because there is anything wrong with the waves. Nothing i hate worse than being up north and listening to ignorant surfers complaining that the waves suck when they actually do not.

yeah super dope video. getting me stoked brraaaaah
I’m new to surfing, did a couple SoCal trips, now moving to GA and I’m hoping there are surfing on the East Coast or Pan handle of FL.
I always watch this to get hyped on making the drive from Raleigh. NC is tight.
Love this!! Great video!
Makes me proud to be an American... Nice work!
:) Surfing does not have borders :)
Awesome, I'm going back to surfing after a decade out of the water.
Right on!
In the moment-it's the best.
your great efforts and works inspired me a lot. thanks!
Seth SY. Shin thanks so much!
@@redtideproductions1136 hey,i can give that woman some nice salty, foamy stuff with a funny smell,Yeah, you knew it was coming, even with your video over 2 years old. C,mon.demitris let himself go,I'll have a crack while he's in the shaping shed.To allay any fears im in Australia and im not up to paddle boarding all the way there
Very nicely done.
great inspiration to get back in the water!
Wonderful! Thank's...
This is the dream! Hop in your boat and anchor on the beach and go surf!
Love surfing in Emerald Isle
Heck yeah brother!
Great video, just moved here to Wilmington from San Diego and looking for places to surf.
Me too moved from SD
What have you found for good spots.
It's been 10 months how is the surf so far in comparison to SD? Thinking of moving there in a few years.
@@so.calmotoadventurerides3135 Guess I'll ask both of you the same question, how has it been surfing wise compared to SD? Thinking of moving there myself.
@@OD99C surf on the east is small compared to so cal,
Water is warm and way less crowded beaches.
People are way nicer on the east coast
@@so.calmotoadventurerides3135 How about consistency in comparison to socal? Do you get a few swells a month or is it few times a year? I normally don't go out unless it's at least chest high so sometimes I won't surf for a month at a time here, I'm sure I could get used to surfing a few times a month in waist high surf. How do you like living there?
So stocked to hit Wrightsville Beach NC up this fall of 2023, new to surfing, making plans for News Smyrna Bch and FWB FL, soon.
this is sick. im about to move to NC from the midwest and so stoked
How is it? Moving down there soon!
yep, nice one! stoked watching it!
Great movie!
They were spot on when it came to the psyche we get when it pumps here. We spend all year scrounging for anything, making the most out of any break, and choppy storm days for those perfect Nor'easters and Hurricane swells.
Moving to NC this summer an looking for good surf spots, got any you can tell me of?
Masonburo Island off Wrightsville beach is great. All of Wrightsville also. Outer banks is killer.
CB represent! To cool!!!
Thanks!
What is the final song? Lyric, “your just what I need”.....
I can say after surfing CB... And wb... For the last 20 years that we on the East Coast are totally more stoked than those on the west being because it's only by not having a good wave do you truly appreciate one...
This spot looks amazing
What song starts playing at 22:30? Sounds like a ukulele, it is so good.
bojyles eefbarzelay-clemsnide.bandcamp.com/ Eef is a musician I that I saw perform a small acoustic performance. I fell in love with his tunes and contracted him to write the most of the music for this film. He killed it!
And every now and then you get to see a lighthouse get moved.
Gray Kraper seen it!
this was so amazing
Try an alaia you’d love it
Great video
4:55 damn starting surfing at 15 is late? I’m 27 just now considering starting
them wave get mighty ruff . on a boat and a surfboard
Whats the name of the point near of the lake? The place that the guy anchor the boat. Good waves there. Perfect for the longboards
Masonburo Island
Wow,your video made me want to travel to a landlocked, desert nation and lose my passport and never so much as mention the ocean again.
Nothing i hate worse than being up north and listening to ignorant surfers complaining that the waves suck when they actually do not.
beautiful
piezoification thanks!
On the Washington coast we need full body 3 mil wetsuits with hoods year round
So nice!
Where. is BRETT. BARLEY????? & Where is buxton, NC?
Realy lucked out finding vid! " surfing for the stoke of it"
" wonderful bag of awesomeness " indeed
Very cool.
