what I always like to point out on this story is a few facts about the pigeon cher ami
    1) he was the third pigeon that they sent out, the other 2 got shot down immediately.
    2) he is on display at the Smithsonian.
    3) cher ami was gifted by Britain to the American army when they arrived in france, his name is french (obviously) and it translates to "dear friend"

I've done some research after you mentioned Capone. The reality is Capone never actively served. I'm not sure if he never enlisted but at the very least my research explicitly states he never fought.

Charles W. Whittlesey and his second in command George G. McMurtry would both be given the Medal of Honor for their actions during the Lost Battalion. Whittlesey would suffer from severe PTSD and kill himself by jumping off a ship heading to Havana in 1921. His body was never recovered and its said that his friends weren't surprised to hear about his death. At his funereal the commander of the 308th Infantry, would say about his death "was in reality a battle casualty and that he met his end as much in the line of duty as if he had fallen by a German bullet"

Al Capone served in the United States Army during World War I. He was drafted in 1917 and assigned to the 95th Infantry Division. However, he never saw combat overseas as he was discharged in 1918 after he was diagnosed with syphilis.

Considering the Argonne & Bastogne, surrounding Americans in European forests is ill-advised. Yes, watch "The Lost Battalion" w/Rick Schroeder. As Americans, we don't hv many WW1 movies abt The Doughboys to choose from. Good movie regardless.
