As a ex nurse it is a major violation of giving out information on someone else. Also if the sister were in a nursing program switching meds is also a really big offense. They got the correct punishment for their actions.

I worked 25 years in the nursing field as a nursing assistant, what the OP's mom's girlfriend did is against HIPAA so it was correct that OP and his wife turned her in. As far as OP's sisters they got off easy. By just getting kicked out of school. They could have ended up in jail and had this on their permanent record when it came to finding a job.

The commentor sounds like a family member or a close friend of one of the sisters or the nurse. The commentor also doesn't understand how serious the issues were . The nurse at the hospital that gave information to OP's mom that was a clear HIPPA (The rights of the patient) violation and also just looking into the chart of OP's wife another HIPPA violation, so being fire is right, if she didn't want to loose her job she should of told the mother to talk to OP's wife.. OP's sisters changing the medication as a prank, definitely should of been expelled. If they were already nurses instead of students, they would of been fired and possibly face criminal charges. Changing a patients medication could have serious consequences. Karma was served to all.

I agree with a lot of the comments. If the sisters can treat a family member by messing with her meds, who's to say that they would not do it to a patient in their care? They should have not only been kicked out of nursing school but be charged criminally! As for the nurse who looked at the wife's medical records, got what she deserved since again she did this to a family member,This made it so no one could trust her as a nurse to not do it to someone else. Family or not , trust is so important especially in the medical field when it comes to both patients information and their medication.

First, it's a violation of Hippa for Francine to look at your wife's medical records without written permission. SO, she did it to herself being noisy. Second of the sisters would do something like that, not knowing which needs they swapped they don't need to be nursing students.

OP barely did anything to his mother or his sisters. They brought this upon themselves. Tell me, those people that think OP went too far by posting about this and then his sisters' nursing school finding out about what they did and then kicking them out of the nursing program, would you want a nurse that could so easily poison a pregnant woman to be tending to you in the hospital? Those two intended to hurt their pregnant sis-in-law and possibly cause a miscarriage. Here's another layer to all of this: had this happened in a red state with their extreme laws against abortion, had the fetus died, they could have been sent to prison for doing this. Now, would people still say it was a "harmless" prank? Just because something bad didn't come out of an actual crime doesn't excuse the behavior. Those people should be charged with attempting to harm a fetus and the mother. The state wouldn't have gone easy on them, so why would the parents of an injured or killed fetus go easy on them?

NTA, that commenter at the end though... I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of relatives on team negatives pretending to be someone else who just happens to find the reddit. OR someone doesn't understand just how low the family went that PRANK is just as bad as the guy who picked up a rock and approached a couple sitting out side a McDonald outdoor patio and told the girl if she didn't give him her food he'd beat her with a rock as a PRANK. threatning someone isn't a prank just as much as what went on with the medication and the other things. each one reference as a PRANK. this was not a PRANK in my eyes, this incident was intentional with the word PRANK as the escape goat. each person involved in it or supported it got karma dished. I don't blame o.p for what they did. to me the outcome of what happen to everyone in the end was harsh karma served. and will be a valued lesson the next time they decide to do something similar and stop to think before they act ....if they're dumb to do this again to someone else.

They should have not done the stupid prank in the first place. The mom's fiance was wrong for looking into the file no matter who it was for. That is a common knowledge thing in the medical field all by itself let alone sharing found info info with someone else. IF she would have been the nurse tending to the patient that is a little different but she was not and had ZERO business looking and worse yet sharing. She knew the consequence before she did it. As for the school finding out, should a murderer get away with something because it was a stupid prank? NO the sisters deserve what they got.

I'm sure that comment was so popular because it got a lot of hate. OP didn't LET the post get to their Dean. He obliviously doesn't understand how FB works if he doesn't realize people repost! The nurse violated her hippocratic oath and got what she deserved, as did the sisters. OP enabled their behavior, which is what ended up causing what could've been a very tragic situation. I feel so bad for his wife putting up with that for YEARS! She must be a saint with a serious amount of patience. I'm so glad OP cut them off, if for nothing but HER sake. I wish OP and his family the best❤🙏

What was the last commentor smoking when they wrote their comment, what the sisters did was not a harmless prank, they put a pregnant person in hospital, if it weren't for the intervention of the doctors and nurses the wife could have lost not only the child but her life too. That is not a harmless prank, it is a crime, one they could have been charged with 1st degree murder for doing. They are lucky the baby and mother survived so they won't be punished for killing them but they still could be on the hook for assault. Them losing their jobs in the medical field is an obvious punishment for what they did, anyone that thinks other wise is too stupid to see sense.

Do they not have enough sense to read the bottle label to know what they switched the medication with and how it can affect an unborn baby? They don't deserve to be in the medical field. They are lucky they didn't go to jail.

I work in healthcare. The HIPAA violation is extremely important. No one has a right to access anyone else's medical information I don't care who the hell you are. She should be lucky that she's not in prison. I hope she's paying a hefty fine I feel bad for the hospital because I'm sure they got a hefty fine for her stupidity. So I'm not going to cry and be very upset that this person violated HIPAA and got what she deserved. So irrational poster How would you like your medical information revealed
The two sisters from hell should be lucky that the brother did not charge them because they tampered with someone's medication. And there is never going to be a good enough excuse for that. And we don't need anybody in the healthcare system that doesn't have a problem with HIPAA violations and tampering with medication. I hope no program admits them. And the mother of the two demons clearly she failed raising these two

Tampering with one's medication is not 'just a prank' but malicious endangerment. It may be considered forgivable if not for the fact that they go to nursing school and should have known better. My parents didn't believe in giving family names to babies for exactly this reason. They said that no matter who you name the baby after, the other relatives get jealous. One of my cousins was named after both his grandfathers. For years, he was called "Henry George" until he turned 13, put his foot down, and said he wanted to be called Henry. What OP's sisters did is unforgiveable. By rights, they should be charged for what they did. Cutting contact with his sisters, at least for the time being, is the right thing to do. The have been tormenting Waverley for years, the fact that she was fine is immaterial. Francine is way out of line for revealing private patient information! That is illegal, and if it could be proved, she could lose her job. The commenter accusing OP of ruining the career of the woman" whose only crime was to love his mother" is ridiculous. She accessed private patient information, which is a violation of HIPPA laws. His sisters swapped his wife's medication with other medication that made her so ill that she had to e taken to the hospital! Both of these are serious offenses, and if the people doing these things had been strangers, you wouldn't hesitate to file charges against them! Being family doesn't excuse harming another family member just because you don't like them!

I work in the medical field. HIPPA is literally drilled into us so constantly that by the time we are a semester into the program, it's a habit. THAT is why they do it. It never stops. It's dropped constantly into virtually every lecture, lesson, paper, memo, chat group....etc. Honestly, they probably should have had the sisters criminally charged. In most US jurisdictions, messing with the medication of someone is seen as AT LEAST aggravated assault. It's kind of a serious matter. But they didn't "mess" with it. They substituted ANOTHER PRESCRIPTION DRUG in its place. That would raise the charges in most cases. They didn't swap a once a day pill with a twice a day pill.....and just move the medications from one bottle ot another. They introduced an entirely different medication. That shows malice, depraved indifference, and makes it more along the lines of attempted murder. They should be thankful that they just have to switch careers. He could have sent them to prison until they were 40.
Any nurse that has been in the field as long as Francine knew better. PERIOD. She deserved to have her license pulled. My niece is a nurse. When I was in the hospital she was worried but I had not yet updated her as one of my "allowed" people. She came to see me.....I was in another part of the hospital. I told her I was fine and she could have easily check from her station. She said, "No, I couldn't....I'm not on your allowed list!" I called and had her added immediately. She still came to visit.......because she loves me. Since the death of my husband, she and her sister (also in medicine) are my legal next of kin. If they want to know what is going on with me they ASK. They don't assume they have a right to know......

Yep. These stories are so fake, it's painful. I get just playing along as a thought exercise when the stakes aren't real high but this ain't it.
The suspension of disbelief was beyond shattered by the med swap. They elude to it being viagra, which is blood pressure medication. Messing with a pregnant woman's blood pressure is beyond deadly, and as "medical professionals" they would have known that. There's no way that wouldn't result in criminal charges.

Commenter for that story is also YTA. WHY, because it was NOT a harmless prank. A prank should NEVER involve having to go to the hospital. The complaint that it 'ruined 4 woman's lives. ALL FOUR who should have been BOUND by medical ethics to never even consider doing such as a prank.
