  • Here, Richard Harris, on August 8th 2001, discusses with me his 1968 recording, Didn't We. And takes some sideswipe at its composer, Jimmy Webb. It is from my new Biography of the man, Richard Harris: Raising Hell and Reaching for Heaven. In the book, I finally tell the full story of his relationship with Jimmy Webb - at least from Ricard's perspective. And he could lie!

More interesting tidbits. I'll never tire of stories from or about Richard Harris.
    Thank you.

Thanks. Richard wanted his version of that tale told in contrast with the way Webb tells it

Fascinating. Webb tends to be ‘flexible with facts’, too - or maybe he forgets. I love both the Webb-Harris albums and wish the partnership had continued. I still think Harris was the best ever interpreter of Webb’s work (sorry, Glen) - he brings out the pathos and the poetry better than anyone else. I presume the song ‘Beth’ (from My Boy) also dates from this period and from the same inspiration (ie, Harris’ martial breakdown).

I agree re RH and Webb as a team. No, Beth was not written for My Boy

@@JoeElvis2009 obviously, it wasn’t ‘written for My Boy’, as Webb and Harris had fallen out by then; but from the clip, the song would seem to date from the period of Harris’ marital travails (plus, it’s copyrighted 1968).
