    Great video, Ana. Looking forward to seeing the results from the pollination. I thought my obesa was a male but turns out it’s female, the picture I referred to a while back had it back to front haha. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Ana. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌸🌺🌼🏜

    Yes Ana, some Euphorbias are both male and female flowers. They have one central female flower surrounded by 5 male flowers. This of course looks like one flower. My Euphorbia zigzag does this. Sometimes pollination depends on how close a group the two plants are. For example, Euphorbia horrida, E. Polygona, E. Ceriformis ,E. Anoplia are in a close group and hybridize easy. Recently I tried E. Evansii & E. Ceriformis with no luck. But we must try to find out!! I would say that E. Obesa & E. Meloformis or pulvinata would take easy" since they are kinda similar or in a close group. Kinda like my Euphorbia enigma. Both E. Stellata and E. Evansii grow branches from a central growing point. So are similar in that way. And made the E. Enigma. The only way to really know for sure is to try it!! Normally Euphorbia seeds sprout pretty fast. Once they are up and sprouted , take them out of the bag or from under cover. At this stage they are different than cactus. They need fresh air. If left in the bag they will rot. Thanks very much for the shout out!!! 😊👍 this was an excellent video Ana!!! You showed the flowers well and explained different ways to pollinate also!! Great stuff!!! Thanks again Ana!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a great week ahead!!! Peace"Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌸🌿🌷🌳💐🌲🌹🌴🌻

    Great video, and the flowers for a male compared to a female, as in your video, are very different looking so will be easy to remember... I think you might be successful with the Pollination, so far they look quite plump 😊👍🏻🌵🌞🌵🌞

    If I’m not mistaken, the method you used to transfer the pollen is called The Bump ‘n Grind...or am I getting this mixed up with a dance? 🤨

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha. I did not even know that there is a term for it. The brush did not work so I just had to do it the “crude way”. 😄 I believe it is a success though, I see some swelling. 🤞

  • @censusgary
    @censusgary 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It looks like your plant is developing seeds. Will they grow? I don’t know. If they do, of course you’ll have a hybrid, since the parents were two different Euphorbias.

    Hi Anna, excuse me i just wanna ask u, i bought a rebutia muscula today, it was is a very beautiful bloom and it also has a lot of pups, but the problem was it was a lot of glue and fake flowers, and when i taked them off, i taked off some spines from the top, im so scared if that s gonna be harmful to the cactus and should i be very worry??!!

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few spines knocked off should not hurt the cactus. Just take care not to rip off the entire central top portion. That is the meristem or the growing point of the cactus. If that is damaged, the cactus will stop growing. However, it will live on by producing pups. 🙂

    • @robertomaldini72
      @robertomaldini72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CactusCaffeine and how do i know that it stopped growing or it is dead?? Im very worry about it and i dont wanna lose it😭😭😭

    Do obesa put out off shoots, pups, or just seed?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, offsetting is rare for Obesas, unless it is a hybrid. The best and sure way is by seeds.

  • @snoywntr2
    @snoywntr2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Did you consider picking a flower or two from the male and brushing it on the female?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not pick out the male flowers. Next time I can try that. 🙂 But this certain euphorbia that I was working with, the pollen easily falls at the slightest touch.

  • @sophyyee8640
    @sophyyee8640 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    But they look like two different species which means that you are making a hybrid they will never be a original.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that is what I am going for. It will be interesting to see what the hybrid would look like. 🙂 Thank you for watching! 🌵☕️

    It's interesting that you are able to play a part of their sex life. Heehee. I also planted seeds. 2 out of 5 are still with me. I found them very slow to germinate, months. The 2 are now nearly four yrs old.
