Yeah but think about it. Tai tried to leave, and Van almost got killed. And by the next spring, I imagine they've all bought into the whole wilderness spirituality stuff. They believe the wilderness is both protecting them and restraining them-by trying to leave, they believe they'd only invite death.
If they were out there for 19 months and they crashed in April/May of the first year that would put there rescue around November/December of the second year. We know it was April/May of the first year when they crashed because the one girl was lamenting not being able to attend prom due to Nationals. Proms are usually in Spring, it could have been as early as March. I don't see them facing a second full winter, but rather see winter encroaching and maybe a first snowfall, leading them to sacrafice pitgirl shortly before being rescued. This would add to their distress since they might realize if they had held out a few more days, she would still be alive.
I think this is exactly what is going to happen. It causes more conflict which we love in our stories. Imagine realizing they killed someone who didn't need to die because they get rescued the next day, needing to hide the evidence of cannibalism plus having to live w knowing that if they had just waited until they were starving every time, instead of a scheduled hunt like the OP is saying is likely to happen (I agree about this btw), more lives could have been spared.
I don’t think they’d feel bad anymore. They’re changed now. Van said it very clearly and that’s just how it is. They clearly don’t know when they’ll be rescued so why would they care? And Lottie is doing everything she can to ditch being in charge. Again, clearly there will be more than one or Nat runs it the whole time.
I don’t subscribe to this supernatural thing till they give that to me. I can see this all being “the wilderness” is how they coped and they are continuing their trauma in the current time. Lottie is just mentally ill to me. The trauma of that in their teenage years of course fucked them up and it’s 19 months not 18.
And they’re so in their wilderness shit Ben is so done w/them and I’m glad he did what he did. Even if he dies for it he stood up for something knowing it isn’t okay at all.
Also the wilderness didn’t choose Jackie. Shauna was a dick and everyone followed suit and she froze to death. Javi wasn’t chosen either..he got fucked over in that moment as they let him die. They haven’t let the wilderness handle anything..they are doing what they do and using that as an excuse. Present day as well. Pit girl is last on my list of questions I want answers to…
Interesting how the first two sacrifices - Jackie and Javi - were people who could be seen as obstacles to Nat's & Travis' relationship. Esp when Nat and Travis were chosen originally. Jackie drives a wedge between them and sleeps with Travis. The temporary disappearance of Javi, and Travis' unrelenting search for him vs. Nat's wanting to him to accept his brother's death, was causing a rift in their relationship too. I wonder if "the wilderness wants" them together.
Its also the fact that whatever “friend” was telling javi not to come back as he had told ben that “she told me not to come back” and said it was his friend, then javi ended up dying. Whoever the “friend” was also kept him alive while he was away.
Great video. However Travis wasn't hunted because they wanted to punish him they hunted him because he freaked out during what was about to be an orgy and ran off. It wasn't until then that they started to see him as a stag and thought "hey dinner time!"
But who dug that elaborate pit? They must’ve made a ladder as well… like seriously, how much time it would take to dig out a hole, chop down a tree or branches strong enough to be sharpened and to firmly stick straight up out of the ground?
That's one of the points I made....like how did the know how to fix that and the time and energy....It's possible we are Watching the timeline from the ending of season one
They may have dug it in the Spring/Summer to catch larger game, like bear or moose. Why not keep it for The Hunt in the winter? It wouldn't get buried, except by snow. Which could explain why it has been covered by smaller branches and why pit girl didn't see it and ran into it. When youre panicking, a lot of stuff leaves your brain, so she might not have realized she was being guided to the pit to die. And because it was covered and just looked like more ground, it wouldn't have been obvious. In essence: maybe they were trying to keep the trap free from snow in case they weren't rescued still come the following Spring/Summer (which we now know they are gonna be rescued before), so they covered it for the winter and thought, meh, maybe game will fall thru. bonus. So if we follow this logic, that it was done in the Spring/Summer to catch larger game to get them thru the winter, the time it takes, the time to build a ladder to get into it, the time to make all the spikes, makes sense. That's been my take on the pit since the bear, but who knows, we shall see what the show tells us in the end.
@@jo0ls_dee it didn't take an essay lmao the reason most people had questions about the pit was because we didn't know the cabin burned down....now we do....also we know the will find shelter because it was foreshadowed in season one.....when Lottie had the vision of that underground place....and again in season 2 when she had the vision with Sara Lee...the cave Ben found isn't the only other shelter.....
I think it is Mari mostly due to Misty's pleased reaction. I believe Mari was the one bullying Misty on the phone in the beginning of the show. Misty hates her and is pleased she gets to eat her.
This theory isn't really related to pit girl but what if whoever draws the queen will become the queen. This is backed as Nat draws the queen and after the hunt she was chosen to be the leader. This could also come into play when Shauna draws the queen in the future and maybe she will replace Lottie as the leader of the cult and as history repeats itself "It" will keep choosing someone to die and someone to lead.

Great analysis! Did you see the leaked script from the pilot? All of the roles had names including The Overseer (Misty or Van, I believe the figure we see looking into the pit is Van), The Butcher (Shauna) and The Shaman (which I assume is what we call AQ) This concept of a chosen sacrifice in place of the one who draws the Queen card explains why Adult Lottie is trying to get them to play phenobarbital roulette after she drew the Queen card from the gratitude slips a episode or two earlier. If the wilderness doesn't choose someone else, she will be the sacrifice and she doesn't want to die.

The writers have said that they refer to the antler queen as The Oracle, it’s been that way for them since the beginning.
