    The speedo is actually a drum that has the different colors on it and it just rotates as the speed increases.

    Congratulations Randy! As happy as I was to see the old girl running and driving, I can only imagine the smile on your face heading down the road in her! I agree about not doing a full restore. All the maintenance, tires, valve adjustment, put the interior back in her. I'm not even sure you should repaint the old girl. Good clean up and clear coat her. That patina truly makes her beautiful! Keep the 59 content coming, especially taking that lady for a ride. I'm sure it'll make her day! Keep up the good work man!

The JOY in your voice when you took her for your first drive gave me all the feels, brother. I would love to see as much content as possible on this car... even a paint job. • @johnfranklin5277
      @johnfranklin5277 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yup, I have my parents 58 cadillac they bought in 1960. I was 1. My mom gave it to me in 1982, though I had been caring for it since I was about 11. Southern California car, no rust. But about 10 years ago I had to bite the bullet and have the engine rebuilt. So much blowby coming from the down draft tube, it just wasn't tolerable. I wanted to keep as much of the original engine as possible, I mean this car not only carted me around since I was 1, it took me to my 1st day of kindergarten too!! Had the engine rebuilt. Hone job, new pistons, and bearings. Crank, rocker assemblys were reused, valves were resurfaced, turned out great. And now when I look down at the downdraft tube. I see nothing, and it just purrs, like it always did.

    • @8avexp
      @8avexp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aka crankcase breather pipe. Before the PCV valve came along, every car had one. Blowby gases would be vented to the atmosphere along with oil mist, resulting in a dark, oily film down the center of each travel lane on any given road.

    Randy,
    Remember, No ethanol fuel!!! Unless you convert the whole fuel system & Carb to withstand the acid in the ethanol. As for the choke rod from the manifold thermostat, one can shorten it or put two 45 degree bends in it to shorten it. Your Cater replacement carb is from an early 1960's Dodge, Plymouth or Chrysler. Good Carb. Hope your camshaft lobe has not gone flat from running it with a collapsed or out of adjustment lifter? Good Luck and keep the videos coming on this car. PS: my grandma had one of these cars, 1958 Fury and had the paint like Christine. Grandpa could really scare you with the speeds he drove it. We were never Late for Church!!!

    • @peacfulseas
      @peacfulseas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup. Replace all rubber fuel line, blow out steel line. Even if it still has a heat riser valve the cross over is likely plugged with carbon and no heat to operate the choke stove/coil. I would imagine much of the valve noise is due to thinned oil by all the fuel dumped in to the carb. They could have done a compression test while they had the plugs out.

    Great to see a forward look chrysler that hasn't disintegrated; those cars are the absolute worst (honorable mention goes to 70's toyotas) for rust out. I intend to watch any content you make on this car.

    I have never seen a thermostat that way unless for some reason there’s a crack in the block or something I don’t know how you get carbon buildup like that lol
