I think what Europe should attempt, is cooperative trade agreements with the American economies and the BRICS countries economically, But, we should also consider gold (+ other PM's and resources) backed measures, for all international trade. The dollar's extreme debt levels are a huge problem, so it is not suited to continue as the world's "reserve currency". The Euro is a purely political construction, so it's already a problem for EU, as we have widely different economies within the union. Instead currencies should be mainly for internal , and maybe bilateral, use. Energy, precious metals and other resources and productivity, should be backing international settlements, substantially, but the payments could potentially use a suitable cryptocurrency as a formal structure. The most important thing is to separate the political situation and a smoothly functioning exchange of goods, services, information and labour. The reasons for avoiding politically controlled ways of dealing, should be obvious after what we have seen with the treatment of Russian economic interests after the calamities in Ukraine became acutely palpable, and the way the governments of the western countries have damaged European economies in an unprecedented way.
In the end , i dont care what Europe does .... As long Europe finally get out of its chare and takes back it place on the top of the economic and military pyramide...... instead of launching around thinking it will be fine

The EU wouldn't join BRICS, it would challenge it by making it's own where the Euro would be the dominant trade currency, you should have watched the video instead of just reading the title as he's clearly saying "BRICS like" and Euro backed. Obviously there is no way the EU would join a union that would devalue their own currency, which by the way is nearly as strong and stable as the Dollar already.
And on the flipside, BRICS has never asked for Europe to join it either. Its entire purpose is partly aimed at weakening Europe's influence. This is purely VE being provocative for the sake of views.
It's not the US "putting a tariff" that is the concern. Some specific and hyper focused tariff to protect a critical local industry is one thing. It is that Trump does not understand economics or how tariff's work and so he wants blanket tariff's on everything which is not strategic, nor is it sound economic decision-making as any decent economist will tell you. It's just by their very nature going to mean that everything gets more expensive. So there is a difference which is why normal American politicians didn't get emotional that people don't buy American made bendy straws anymore, and instead only buy stupid things like American made fighter jets, or Abrams tanks, or helicopters, or other significantly more advanced manufactured products.

Consequences if Global Use of the Dollar Declines: Economic Impacts: Reduced Dollar Demand: The U.S. benefits from the dollar's status as the world's primary reserve currency. This status allows the U.S. to borrow at lower interest rates and print currency to finance debt without immediate inflationary pressure. If the dollar lost this status, borrowing costs would rise, potentially leading to higher interest rates and inflation. Trade Deficit Consequences: The U.S. runs a significant trade deficit, which is easier to sustain when global demand for dollars remains high. A decrease in this demand would force the U.S. to correct this deficit through a mix of reduced imports, increased exports, or economic adjustments. Financial Markets: Global Investment Shifts: A decline in demand for U.S. dollars could impact investments in U.S. Treasury bonds and other financial instruments, destabilizing financial markets and possibly leading to a weakened dollar. Loss of Economic Leverage: The U.S. would have less global financial influence. Countries diversifying away from the dollar could make it harder for the U.S. to enforce economic sanctions and exercise geopolitical power.
Exactly! If we assume the US won't be a democracy anymore, it would be in our interest, to unite the remaining free world in a united economic Block, in a Opposition to BRICS
Taxing foreign products is the confess, that own products are not compettitive - and that will lead to an unwonted, but voluntary exclusion from the market. Good by America!
Western Europe joining BRICS will be as likely as Russia joining NATO. Saying Chinese institutions are not reliable; how reliable are Western Financial Institutions? Also why are so many countries particularly countries in the global South queuing to join BRICS Plus? What exactly is the US manufacturing and exporting all over the world, which makes it the number one economy in the world; or is this just another hype?
Russia has expressed interest in doing this long time ago...joining NATO...2003...but was no interess of Western block....today is no possible any more...some of country from Western Europe joining BRICS and they will....gradually the EU will split...
He said in the presentation. The US trade system, basically wallstreet. Selling stocks in companies like Apple and Tesla... also selling govt Bonds and repackaged debt as a banking product.
This is not even a remotely contentious topic. Western financial institutions are the most stable in the world. Most importantly, they act independently of their respective government. That is also why Western countries have some of the best credit ratings in the world. Countries want into the BRICS because there are no obligations and no requirements to join. There is not even an official BRICS charter. Countries are joining BRICS for the same reason countries are joining the British Commonwealth, because there are no real disadvantages. At worst, you get another forum to discuss trade, etc. BRICS is not an anti-Western alliance, as people seem to believe. All BRICS countries except for Russia trade more with the West than they do with each other. Russia is really the only BRICS country that is openly hostile to the West.
But apparently, the Chinese financial system IS unreliable. And it seems that is part of the reason why so many Chinese take their money abroad, they don't trust their own banks 🙃
@JeffPar50 Really? How come Russia got kicked out of the Swift system, if Western institutions act separately from Western Governments? How come Western governments are the only ones backing the ongoing genocide in the Middle East, if their governments act independently from their corporations supplying the weapons/arms? The West have exposed themselves to the entire world, by showing every one that their Governments, NGOs, Corporations, Institutions, etc., are all the different heads of their debts based system. BRICS Plus is a system to counter the existing Western Hegemony; by a union of countries who have suffered Western subjugations, colonialism, neocolonialism, exploitations, pillages, and plunders, in the last 200 years, to this very day.
The USA screwed Europe in the last 3 years (that's why it pays 4 times as much for LNG). Why is Europe still groveling at the USA's feet??? Doesn't Europe have any pride and self-respect?

The countries of the Global West outsourcing so much manufacturing and food production was always a bad idea. Our Governments are still trying to destroy family farms in our countries. This USA prez/elect desperately needs to improve his intellect and economic knowledge when it comes to EU-USA trade. For the past 70 to 80 years, only market economics has existed between the EU and the USA (the biggest allies). And everyone in the both sides of Atlantic buys better quality products at the appropriate price. So the USA does not really produce as many good products as the EU does. Americans freely choose Mercedes, BMW, Champagne, Cognac, Dior, Dutch Cheese, ASML Semiconductors Tech and so on. Even the former leader, Boeing, lost the quality and safety battle against Airbus. If we talk about Coca Cola or Apple products (iPhones and MacBook Pro), Europeans have absolutely no issue - we like it and buy continuously. P.S. Or if this prez/elect is secretly seeking to destroy NATO (and by extension the USA), then he is saying all sorts of crazy things to cover up his treasonous actions. Greetings!
I think a common currency would depend upon a basket of commodities (wheat, metals, oil) as the "gold" backing. Alternately, there's always gold. Also, bilateral currency transactions between two countries, lessening the need for the dollar. Cut out the middleman. From farm to fork finance. I suspect the dollar is already at 15% in central bank reserve holdings, although the IMF insists its 56%.
It all started with the modern rice in neo-Marxism. All part of the plan by the Soviets and CCP, to slowly indoctrinate new generations, and then divide and conquer.
EURo had a chance to be a proper reserve currency, but since 2011 when European government decided that they would guarantee bank deposits and countries like Greece, that prospect has failed. It is still great with 20% of all global reserves denominated in EURo as second most used after USD, but it has limited potential to grow as reserve currency due to the above point.
I would be more optimistic about Euro. It is the second currency in the running world wide and Elon is pro destroying the FED, which is a major reason, why USD is so trusted. Now, if trust into US government (because of what happens to the government) and/or the central bank of said country were to cease to exist, what does that mean for adoption of USD for international trade?
Thanks I would had said something like it. We tried. Plus EU countries like Denmark voted against euro as our common EU currency and disband our own currency. So we,( I am Danish). wanted to keep our own currency Dkr. So we did, with our votes against the euro and thanks common sense for that.

Europe has nothing to worry about if tariffs are imposed on their products. All it means is that American citizens in their cost of living crisis will not be able to afford European products. And those that can pay the government more for the purchase. Europe just has to find other markets. In any case, European products sold to the US are paid for with a worthless currency. The intrinsic value of the dollar is assumed by governments in good faith, but this faith has been eroded since 1971 when American capitalism died. Europeans work hard and expect their governments to provide them the essential services they have become accustomed to. But when you trade a good for a worthless piece paper given to you by a government who just prints more when they run out, is ludicrous. The American national debt, paid for by the EU and Japan is now $13.7 trillion, with a 2.8% GDP growth rate. This sluggish American economy can never pay its own way out of debt and the Europeans and Japanese have their own economic difficulties and are unable to pay American national debt anymore. The issue about BRICS is still yet undefined, it appears to establish a free trade block with signed up countries aligned with the UN. But was established by an American investment bank, Goldman Sachs. This investment bank saw the writing on the wall for the American economy decades earlier. Brics wants to use local money back by gold not one country currency.u r wrong.

The EU should do whatever it needs to do to put Trump's America in its place. (And, I understood your meaning of being not actually joining BRICS, but joining the BRICS thought pattern of replacing the Dollar with another currency.)
Consequences if Global Use of the Dollar Declines:
Economic Impacts:
Reduced Dollar Demand: The U.S. benefits from the dollar's status as the world's primary reserve currency.
Financial Markets:
Global Investment Shifts: A decline in demand for U.S. dollars could impact investments in U.S.

So the USA does not really produce as many good products as the EU does. europe: *looks at china* "at least Xi Jinping sticks to agreements"
Counter question: Can Europe forget their racist colonial ways to join the BRICS? 🤨🧐
Can China? No it can't. It is a colonizer of Tibet and Xinjiang.
Yes. Next question.
Pecunia non olet....
If China solves the North Korea problem, opening the way to a reunification, South Korea will joint BRICS Ina second.
Racist & colonial Russia helped make BRICS.
Russia 🇷🇺 is killing their minorities at the Ukrainian front line, third world peoples are being suckered into coming to Russia 🇷🇺 to die in Ukraine 🇺🇦 or be enslaved in war factories.
Russia’s colonies (ie Alaska) were sold, lost (ie in California), broken off (ie Ukraine 🇺🇦), or being attacked by (ie Ukraine, Georgia, etc.)
China 🇨🇳 has not forgotten their racist colonial ways, yet they helped form BRICS.
Tibet was conquered by China 🇨🇳, they still want to conquer Taiwan 🇹🇼, and they are still committing genocide in East Turkistan.
China has been committing genocide in East Turkistan, as they enslaved survivors to manufacture toxic lithium batteries 🔋
Can BRICS not be racist and colonial in fashion?
Why would Europe take American cars? They make better cars!
We will survive Trump, America might not.
It would be more funny if the US join BRICS too.
Nope we don't want everything European countries okay in BRICs
Wow that's really Interesting 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Thank you for letting me know 919❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wtf? No!
😂😂😂😂 PUTIN GET TRUMP IN 😂
The "R" in BRICS = Russia 😆 😂🤣
Yes Russia, the roaring revolutionary … ❤🇷🇺
The USA is following its own trade interests. Every country does. I hope European nations and the United States continue to cooperate as friends.
Don't count on a thoughtful and well planned response from DT.
The use of the US Dollar in international trade has been steadily declining over the last 20+ years. Has it hit bottom yet? I don't think so.
WHAT THE.. IS THIS TITLE ??? I mean it's good title but i didn't have this on my 2024 bingo card...
Made me laugh.
The EU joining with Russia and china against the USA....This is one of the weirdest scenarios that i have ever heard of
Europe has nothing to worry about if tariffs are imposed on their products.
Realising investment would be difficult in the US when it economy collapses, started a coalition of like minded countries who wanted change. But it’s still capitalism, the root cause of all broken G7 economies. These democratically elected governments are paid for by capitalists, we just elect whose they pay to represent us, sorry I meant them.
You can’t trust your government or the lies capitalism asks us to swallow.
