Hey pilots! Tricker here and I want to welcome you to my channel on combat aviation. I'm a real world pilot in the Airbus 319/320/321 series and I enjoy DCS World, Falcon BMS, Falcon 4.0, IL-2 Sturmovik, X-plane 11, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
If you want to fly WWII aircraft over Normandy and the English Channel, then DCS World WWII is for you and they have plenty of aircraft to choose from such as the BF-109, FW-190, Spitfire, P-47 Thunderbolt, and P-51 Mustang. If you enjoy modern aerial combat then you want to focus more on DCS World products such as the F-16, A-10C Warthog, AH-64D Apache, F-15, F-14, JF-17, SU-27, Mirage, Mig-29, F-18 Hornet, Mi-8, Mi-24 Hind, Uh-1 Huey, Ka-50, F-5, Mig-21, AV-8b Harrier, and the F-4 Phantom. Some of the mods that are out there for DCS World are the F-22 Raptor, SU-57, A-4 Skyhawk, Rafale, and Gripen.
I enjoy other games such as Total War, Battlefield, War Thunder, Escape from Tarkov, as well as Squad.

I never thought I'd have wished how to take off with an F-14 in my life.
And here I am with a VR Headset and DCS struggling to get into VR mode with Virtual Desktop.
That's the hardest part, no matter how hard you think what will come next is.
I would never think dcs and short form video would go together but you are nailin it with these!

I did make a mistake on the RWR switch which is in the RIO seat (controlled by Jester), the switch I call the RWR is actually the ICLS power switch. My apologies, I try to put out quality and correct information.

Always loved jet fighting games. F-14 will always be my favorite jet. But I would probably go nuts trying to be patient while taking all these steps. Awesome detail though.

Brilliant! I’ve been holding back on learning the Tomcat, largely because the default tutorial stuff is confusing and, according to this video, overcomplicated.
Yes, it’s nice to learn the full IRL procedures for planes but when you first get in, it’s better to just have what’s needed. Sure, they don’t do that in the real world but in the real world when you screw up you don’t get another go-‘round. So we don’t HAVE to do everything by the book if we want to absorb stuff a little more slowly.
Tomcat is rather easy to get ready for TO
..try a Harrier or Warthog if you really want complexity
I'd never played DCS, but when Heatblur released the F-14 I had to buy it. I made it about half way thru learning the startup sequence when my oldest (who's in the Air Force) needed his flight stick back.
Never arm ejection seat in f14, never know when jester is gonna get too scared 😂
Actually had this happen in the middle of a dogfight with a Mig 21
Jester pissed his pants and bailed, leaving me holding my balls in a damaged Tomcat
Got a maneuver kill on the Mig and nursed the Cat back to the carrier

I know this video is old but have some quick questions,
So the green cursor is the usage of the mouse right?
So that's means that the hotas is for flying only, while switches are flipped on or off by mouse and mouse click.
I noticed in the manual, at least for the F-4, the actions column means that I have to use the mouse correct?
it's a combo of both - for any given control you could have the mouse click the physical item, or you can assign that item to a button/axis on the hotas if it's something you're going to frequently use

Imagine doing the whole preflight check, and checking everything by yourself without Jester. Or is it a requirement to have Jester do it?
IIRC, if you want your instruments to be accurate ,your canopy closed and the ability to operate the radar yeah.
I guess you could use the “crew contract” function to turn him to “inactive” and then do both the pilot and RIO duties yourself. It would just take you a while longer since he takes care of the RIO startup duties after you start the engines.

Can't speak for fighters but in heavies the engineer or crew chief had alot of this powered up already.

Im getting closer to getting my pc set up for dcs. But thinking about how to learn all the aircraft in dcs just seems so overwhelming. Someone please assure me there will be step by step instruction like this in the game for every aircraft...lol
You can actually skip the whole jester wheel part and just crank the engine. Jester will proceed to close the canopy and continue the startup. Saves you a few seconds more.

Dcs is so cool I can’t wait to get a good pc again so I can play it
I've found that if you get a competent crew in the F-14 you can get airborne in about 2.5-3 minutes of first engine start (as long as you don't mind inputting too many waypoints)
This is how i feel when i reset the wanky theft deterrent system on my chevy by taking out and putting back the pcm's fuse so the engine starts, then shifting out of park before releasing the parking brake to protect the transmission parking pawl.
Okay, rooster, get us in touch with the boat.
after applying ground air and power, if you start cranking the right engine, turn on oxygen, and arm your ejection seat. jester will automatically start alignmening. then as soon as the engine crank switch centers itself you can start cranking the left side engine. jester will default to the finest alignment. this way you do not need to interact with him, i.e telling him to start or which alignment you want.
Finally ...you must be techie who can handle several things at once
No kid, you must be able to follow a clear step by step basic instructions. Nothing about thjs has anything with your dorky self identification as a techie.
I'm glad that tech means something to you, though. We all know how rare that is in our cavemen world where nobody uses tech or has any tech in their pockets and on their wrists at all times.
Oh and even though it literally isn't needed to follow this step by step one at a time list here, there isn't a human in the world that cannot multitask. Hell, there is not a living mammal in the world that can't multitask...
You pick some low achievements to be proud of eh kid? Following basic step by step instructions, being able to do more than one thing at a time and liking tech that you didn't invent, don't fully understand, couldn't recreate -let alone invent - and can barely use to even 10% of its potential

Some are not exactly needed to fly but you dam sure want radios and airconditioning for flight.
Whenever I start up the F14, I always make sure not to arm my RIO's ejection seat. I don't think I could take another accident like Goose again...
