- This video shows the features of the new (introduced in late 2022) Brompton Borough Waterproof Back Pack
It's been a while since Brompton introduced the Metro Back Pack - allowing you to carry the bag either on your Brompton front carrier or on your back
There was one small problem - due to the width of the frame - the straps needed to be quite far apart, which meant it could slip off of your shoulders
Brompton have spent some time re-designing the back pack - now called the Borough Waterproof Back Pack in order to address this problem
The solution - the bag is mounted on the bike in a landscape orientation but on your back in a portrait orientation - so the straps are closer together

I am of the belief that the best Brompton bag to-date was the T-Bag. With several exterior pockets, a cover, great water-resistant fabric and a huge 30+liter capacity, nothing else seems nearly as good.
I bought one 13 years ago and it's been in almost daily use on and off the bike. Brilliant bag

Happy New Year. Nice bag, but admit I’m wondering why they didn’t upgrade the existing bag by moving the straps closer and adding a chest strap to it.
Seems like a major oversight to have a waterproof bag w/o waterproof exterior zippers. At least have a waterproof flap covering the zipper. They could have easily solve the issue with straps falling off by including a chest strap that many backpacks have.

It has made us laugh a lot! I had mine upside down the other day! I was confused!

Looks like an interesting design, reminds me of the Frieitag rucksack bags for Brompton, although a lot lighter and less expensive. Yes I had found that the metro backpack was awkward to wear. But I now use a beautiful looking and practical alternative by Hill & Ellis, which can be used as both tote or backpack and has a fantastic 18 to 24.7 litre capacity using ta oll top design. It's now my favourite do it all bag for the Brompton.

I have the small blue borough brompton bag (purchased from your chobham shop) and it's great and everything but it's just a tad too small to commute from Reading to Oxford on the train for work. The 13in laptop goes in fine and a few essential work extras but there is no space for lunch in a Tupperware container :( I'm seriously considering getting this larger capacity borough backpack for that reason alone but £180 is seriously expensive in these economic times! 🤦♂️ The bag looks like a big improvement and a great review though! And if I do get this new one I'll be sure to get it from your shop because your videos are so helpful :) thank you!

Brompton and waterproofing is a source of constant amusement for me - supplying things with "waterproof" covers, electric motors that dislike water, and rear lights that let in water and immediately stop working.

Nice video and thanks for the review, always appreciate a good Brompton bag review. Personally, I use Demano’s banner backpacks designed for Bromptons. None of the portrait/Landscape debacle, costs a lot less with the capacity of 20L and have ridden in all weather conditions. It’s my fav Brompton bag NOT by Brompton.

Nice video! Just one clarification you said 25 inch laptop- is that the same as the one that is 15.4 inch screen size? I guess you should check with the bag in person as some 15 inch laptops or 15.4 inch ones tend to be thicker than a macbook 15 inch. Good job as always.

As I haven't even mounted one of my, two versions, old type, titanium racks on my 2020 bike, I normally use a T bag on mine, and it functions fine, also as a trolley in a shop. As it mostly is bought for comfort and mobility during travels, I may never need a back pack? I will see during this summers travels? Finn. Denmark

Two thumbs up for the sarcasm. On a serious note, and apologies if you have done it, but what options are there for a roller rack, or just plain rack, for the electric, given the positioning of the rear light?
Ah sorry it’s on the list but not made. The C Line electric you can fit the standard rack and the light stretches to sit on the back of the rack
@@brilliantbikes Thanks for that. Is the rack a pain to fit for a novice? I'm just looking at the various rack options available to me as the larger front bag doesn't cut it for me once the battery is inserted. I've stopped using it and now thrown on a backpack.
Maybe compare this with the other backpacks. Metro Backpack, Freitag F748 Coltrane and Thernaltake TT100. I may want to see which backpack I wish to have

Thanks for the great presentation. I don‘t like the new iteration as you have to take it off the bike to load and unload. The top loadable metro backpack works like a normal brompton bag and I look like a school child when carrying on the back, so no one robs me. In all seriousness, peak design everyday backpack shows how one can have flaps on top and side, which should have been used here.

Brompton need a way to let you clip bags for the front carrier on the back, either that or make a better rack sack
Is it comfortable to wear? That metal frame rubbing against your shoulders and back once the bag is filled and weighted would be a concern for me.
A good question! I only put it on briefly, that’s a good idea. We will have a try.
Will there ever be anything like it for the Brompton Electric?

I do wonder if the frame will be "unpleasant" when used as a Backpack, and if it is possible to remove the frame for keeping it inside the bag, while walking with it? As a (much) former, frequent Long-Distance walker (now 75, and my dear wife claims I need some exercise, to loose a little weight, as a slightly "Weight Challenged" person. Luckily it is now winter!) I had an extra strap between the shoulder bands to assure they stayed in place, while walking! Finn. Denmark 😄

Would have preferred if it mounted to the bike in Portrait mode with the roll top on top.
I have the original backpack and will keep mine. I don't like the landscape mode of this new bag at all.

Surprised you wasn’t ask what size pizza box will it fit , other takeaways are available, song = Waterproof = Karma Genesis , is it not time to do a quick release bag for those who have a rear rack , don’t forget to tell me when your racks are in your upcoming sale ha ha.
Hmmm I have a challenge to see what size pizza box fits in! Where did I put that 11 inch pizza box….
@@brilliantbikes You know the trouble with eating to many pizzas your memory forgets things especially the box , we could start a new pizza company = 11 inch pizza for more momentum while ridding your Brompton of course, name not that catchy , needs work as said by the team of psychiatrists said.

I'd say it looks like it's manufactured by Ortlieb. But who knows.
It’s funny the sky was precipitating a lot! Then we tried to use it as an umbrella and it seemed to stop (till I got on a bike….)

Great but I'm only interested in using the Brompton backpack on my back - why can we not buy without the silly frame, as a backpack? Agree with others it needs a front chest strap! Do Brompton really live in the real world...
you can remove the frame and have it as a backpack ;)
So essentially they copied the Freitag Backpack Strap System and then made it Waterproof and more Affordable.

It's waterproof, except the bit that isn't. Unless they mean by waterproof, that it's not soluble.
