The real heros are the countless UNSC Marines who went into battle knowing full well that they probably wouldn't return. They were truly the backbone.

Spartans and marines have mutual respect. They fought together and each of them show high tolerance with each other during heat of the battle.
Marines always have Spartan backs unlike ODST who whine about stupid shit.

@@dozergames2395 I've always funny cause ever since the Spartans were mere 6 year olds the UNSC government owned them, and their every waking day was literally: "Do this beyond what is considered exceptional or get utterly destroyed"
The Spartans did not have a choice and when they did it was fabricated so that they'd say yes in a "choice", the Troopers had a choice and freedom to get the achievements.

Missed a big point in that Spartans were overall misunderstood in general. They never took off their armor(and when they did, they were sickly pale), they did inhuman feats of speed and strength, were absolutely massive(height and weight), were raised with military training which lead to them talking "like robots" or not much at all, could stand unnaturally still, and most of the details of what they went through or even the fact that they started as children were hidden from most people. They were overall incomprehensible to anyone without most of the facts. ODST training was incredibly difficult and the idea that there was something above them was difficult to mentally grasp.

The Covenant are obviously totally evil, but the SPARTAN-II's like John-117 are literal child soldiers that we stolen from their parents, brainwashed/tortured/etc., and then used to slaughter human rebels. If the Covenant didn't come along the Spartan program would have been correctly seen as monstrous.

John 117 absolutely misunderstood the situation that was at hand. This story comes from the book The Fall of Reach. Yes, it happens after an augmentation and John feels off because of his enhanced strength. He takes the pin and uses calculus to determine the weight divided by height and the pull of gravity to realize that the ship's gravitational rotation wasn't off, his body was. When the ODSTs entered and almost got injured by the unsecured weight pin, John tries to diffuse the situation politely. The ODSTs were the aggressors. When their CO told them to get into the ring, it was only then that John snapped into purpose because he was given orders to engage. After the devastating outcome, John approaches Chief Mendez confused at why he was seemingly in trouble. He was emotionally distraught because all he did was what he had been rigorously trained for since early ages of childhood; follow orders. That's when Chief Mendez gives the valuable wisdom that sometimes the orders aren't going to be cut and dry, black and white. Sometimes they'll be confusing or even conflicting, but they are orders nonetheless. The ODSTs were in the wrong by trying to engage John before a CO told them to resolve it in the ring. There is zero theory against John within the source material regarding this encounter because he lacked comprehensible knowledge of how extensive the augmentation was for his body and mind. This is a huge turning point mentally and emotionally for John's military career in that particular chapter.

"Rivalry" is too strong a word for the fact that most Spartan-II's were utterly unaware of why the regulars were so angry at them while they were there to slap ass and nothing else. Spartan-III's had little contact with soldier's outside their units and Spartan-IV's are taken from exceptional soldiery to be augmented and fitted with state of the art mjolnir armor, so the IV's would probably have some former ODST's thrown in there and would probably have more amicable relations with the regular human soldiers.

Great point, the reality is that the hatred for Spartans is really misguided outrage with their leadership. Although if it ever got out that leadership purposely killed ODST’s for the sake of an experiment the outrage among the UNSC ranks would be immense. It’s a sad reality, but ONI is highly unethical. Unfortunately the covenant doesn’t have the word ethics in their vocabulary, so there’s that.

Just a quick thing about John; if you're fighting against the odds, as in a stronger opponent, more opponents or in that case both. Your mind goes to a more brutal place, you're not thinking about just disabling the opponents you're thinking about making it out alive. This plus as you said he probably wasn't aware of how strong he really was, he was still learning that gravity didn't effect him the same so I can totally understand him not being held accountable for his actions, plus he was devastated to learn he killed allies. Totally understand why the ODSTs would be mad and hate him for it (and all Spartans) but I just thought it was a thing of note is all :> great video like always

I love the ODST or "Hell Jumpers" as their skills on the battlefield are incredible. However, Spartans are legendary and in a class of their own. They can do what entire platoons of ODST cannot. Furthermore, without the Spartans ability to hold the line and win battles decisively...the ODST would have been wiped out along with all of humanity.
I believe the Spartans deserve the superstar status they have earned through blood, sweat, and tears as the true deciding factor in destroying our enemies. That doesn't mean the Hell Jumpers or any other Marine doesn't deserve to be honored for their incredible bravery but we have to give credit where credit is due. Hopefully, we see an end to the needless feud between the ODST and Spartans. I don't think ODST has been made obsolete by the Spartan program. No more than the Navy Seals have made the Green Berets obsolete. They all have their roles and ODST far, far, far outnumber the Spartans.

So, what about regular marines? They died A LOT, right?

Well, according to Installation00 and many other people in the comments, fuck those guys. Every time you saw a UNSC ship blow up, there were 1000s of noncombatants dying in each one, so I guess doublefuck those guys.

I love how humanity is facing extinction but the UNSC can’t afford to give every soldier shielding and advanced armor cause you know, you need to save money in the end of times.

Well, just like any war, you need to make sure there is something left over when the war actually ends. Not much point in winning if you end up collapsing afterwards anyway.

I think it was less actual cash and more material and. Mark 5 wasn't made until 51 or 52. Not counting augments and the like

MJOLNIR armor was literally powered by a nuclear power cell; that's part of the reason why it was so expensive to make.

The Spartan-IIs didn't get shields at first. They fought the Insurrectionists before the Covenant attacked. Many of them died before shields were reverse engineered. The UNSC can't afford to give every soldier a shield much the same way they can't afford to give every soldier a tank. You can't just go into a debt of manhours and natural resources, it's not like engineers eat money and shit out bleeding edge technology.

J117: Our duty as soldiers is to protect humanity, whatever the cost.
    ODST: Soldiers are still human.
ONI: Spartans aren't human, they are weapons.
