At this point, Clark was now 34 years from Christmas 1955. Now, we are 34 years from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

It's my favorite scene in the movie. There are numerous funny moments throughout the movie, but the nostalgia and awesome song just reminds us that Christmas is all about family and love.

This year's Christmas is exactly as many years away from Christmas '89 as Christmas '89 was from Christmas '55. There's something both nostalgic and terrifying about how time flies.

Yeah and why would we sit on the attic door to watch the movie. There are other moments like this in the movie. Just have to reside in the fact that the characters don't make logical sense in this movie.

But why was no one concerned about Clark in the first place? Why is Ellens dad so selfish he thinks its more important to go out to lunch than take 5 minutes to scan the house and realise Clark is trapped? Wjy is clark not even dressed when they were all aware this was shopping day? Just how long was he up there before they left? Why did Ellens mother not call up to the attic to see if anyone was up there before shutting the door and telling no one? Why didn't she mention it to Ellen when they realised Clark was missing? The whole scene only works because of plot armour, and IRL would end up one of those things where they find his corpse a year later I recon.

That wasn’t Rusty’s bed. It was the guest bedroom. Ironically, Ellen’s parents were sleeping in there. And it was Ellen’s mom that trapped him in there. And Ellen’s dad was the one who insisted on leaving so he could take his back pill.
Ellen’s mom slept on the bottom. And Ellen’s dad slept on the top. Now Ellen’s mom is gonna be cold. And Ellen’s dad won’t be able to look at that poster. Talk about karma.

I believe the best part of the whole film is when Clark is watching the old Christmas movies. Not only is it an emotional scene, but it also shows that Clark really wants to make a great Christmas. He may have gone through so much trouble with the lights, getting the Christmas tree, and more misadventures, but he pulled through.

Although it shows Clark getting trapped in the attic, don't believe it. Even if you are in the attic and someone closes the attic door, it can still be pushed open from above. I know because back when I was in elementary school, my parents had rental properties. When I was in the fourth grade, my parents rented a unit at a duplex to a criminal once. It turned out that the tenant had been to prison for rape, extortion, murder, grand theft, grand theft auto, burglary, kidnapping...on and on. Well, that tenant tried his criminal luck on cheating my mom on rent. Wrote a hot check, refused to pay, and I THINK, not 100 percent, but I THINK he was found to be trying to rob someone. My mom told him that she was evicting him and threatened to go to court, threatening to get police involved, on and on. He laughed at my mom. My dad went to the duplex and pulled the electric meter and disabled the hvac system. BUT THIS STORY IS NOT OVER! Now this is where I get to the point of my story...
That criminal opened the pull down attic stair and climbed into the attic and went over to the pull down attic stair in the condo next door and pushed the attic door down and open and climbed down into the unit next door. At this point, it's trespassing. I got one even better than that...even juicier...breaking and entering. After doing that, he stole ALL of the appliances from BOTH units of the duplex. Stoves, refrigerators, vandalized both units, on and on. My parents did press charges against him and sent his happy little butt back in prison where it belongs. From then on, my dad locked the attic door, trap door, and any door that could be used to gain access to the apartment next door, and started locking doors that could be used to traverse between condos. But, THE POINT OF THIS STORY, attic doors CAN BE PUSHED OPEN FROM ABOVE IN THE ATTIC.

Or it could just be that you don't get its purpose. Scenes like this that are more quiet and pensive always serve a purpose. We'd seen and heard Clark talk about the kind of Christmas he wants to give his family, but this scene serves to show us what Clark's trying to recapture in his head. Not every scene in a film exists to drive the plot forward.
