i got recently the mora 120 on recommendation of my woodworking course teacher. i had to learn the hard way of how sharp they are brand new. slipped out off the plastic holder thing and cut my palm. very nice though

Mora have changed the blade from the ones in the video. Here's the reply I got from them when 2 I purchased came different to the ones I already had. Personally I preferred the old shape. "Yes, a couple of years ago when the cooperation started with our carving ambassadors Jögge Sundqvist and Beth Moen they had a “demand” that if they should promote our carving knives we had to increase the total edge angle from 24° to 27° for better edge retention and to better avoid edge rolling when cutting into harder wood. Of course every carver may adapt any edge angle that suits the type of wood he/she is working on, but the factory set was increased at that time for a reason.
Also, the polishing and buffing were reduced to a minimum to avoid creating a micro bevel of a typical Scandi Grind and instead have an edge without any micro-bevel = Scandi Grind Zero. The reduced buffing showed more traces from the hot rolling process at the steel mill, and that was a wish from many users to have a more original and robust look on the blade sides.

In my opinion, just add the Beavercraft C15 detail knife for a good and affordable detail knife. While bevercraft makes decent tools, I don't feel like you will get much extra benefit from changing from mora to bevercraft for your existing tools.
This my go to carving knife,also got some Flexcut for delicate work great knives
Moras are always a great option :)
the 120 is so popular now that you can get the 106 for cheaper HAHA
Someone just gave me a 160 laminated Frost Mora variant. I was looking for the laminated newer Mora 160. But all I can find is the C version. A carbon blade, no lamination. Wish is inferior to a laminated blade in my opinion. To get the Frost one for free. It’s my best knife
Can I use Mora Companion for higher cuts and buy a Mora 120 for the detail work? In order to avoid buying 106 & 120 both?

I bought myself 2 pcs of Mora 106, 2 pcs Mora 105, 2 pcs Mora 122 and 2 pcs of Mora 105. No Mora 120, I consider that 106 or 105 or Basic can do the same thing for details like 120, plus more when you need more edge. For very small details I use some Two Cherries small knives, Beaver Craft C13 and C14 (they have thinner blade than Mora 120) and some palm chisels from Narex.

I have the same knife! From my understanding the hook shape helps you reach into tight corners that a regular knife just couldn't reach.
I rarely use mine to be honest
Does the 120 have any practical use outside of carving? Genuinely curious!
Its overall use and application up for debate, but I feel that it's intended use is woodcarving and doesn't offer much for other applications.

I'm assuming you can cut anything else (food?) with it I'm sure, if you're out camping (?) but just make sure to wash it off good, dry thoroughly and then put some oil on it to prevent rust. I just got the Mora 106C (full carbon) version and I made sure to put oil on the blade when storing it. I baby a lot of the things I own, especially when they're new. 😁 Just oiled up my Estwing hatchet the other day as well. Don't want rust showing up. I used expeller pressed coconut oil, which I use to cook with, so I have plenty laying around here. ☺️ I also save those little bags full of silicon bits that absorb moisture. They usually come in bottles of vitamins. I put those little packs in every box or bag that I store items in for long periods of time.

The blades should be about 60mm (2.36 inches) and the overall length should be 165mm (6.5 inches)
When do you use the 122 instead of the 120?
I only use the 122 if I am making large flat surface cuts like using it as a wood plainer. Hardly find myself using it to be honest.
More like $70 bucks each 210.bucks for all three.What a gyp.
